Here in central Canada our Winters can drop to -40C in January/February. -40C = -40F. Yup, -5C is nothing. That’s like shorts weather in spring time for some people. 😂
The car is reporting the right temperature but it is the heatpump is extracting the heat of the air around the temperature sensor so the reason it is colder under the hood of the car than the ambient temperature.
Absolutely agree. I often have this on cold winter morning when the air is still and my heat pump is working like crazy. Often it can only be -5°c or so, but I get well below -10
Nice video. Shows that you can do a lot with EV. I am just at the beginning of the ev journey and have a plug-in hybrid as my company car, but after driving it for a week, noticed that even consumption on my diesel went down, because of how i drive😁 Will definetly consider full EV as my next car. Hello! I'm not sure if there are any other Koreans watching this, but I came across your video thanks to the algorithm. I'm really enjoying it and will keep watching in the future. Thank you for the great content! 😊
The phone turning off Bluetooth is good to know!! Because I used camp mode and my boyfriend was able to open the door when it was locked and I was so confused while the door didn't stay locked I honestly felt a little unsafe since that. Since I use camp mode a lot
Ya it wasn't until the first camping trip with my wife that we tested it out and realized how it worked, before that I had been sleeping in an unlocked car I guess, oops!
Camp mode keeps the screen and audio systems running. I tend to use 'keep' in the climate control setting. It will let the car lock and turn off everything but the climate control.
I thought the 30 amp TT-30 was very common, it's at all the provincial campgrounds that have power in AB, BC and SK. Maybe 50A is more common over there? Harder to find a 50A plug at a nice campground here in my experience, usually just the 'RV parks' have those. Lot's of choices though. Even just a regular 15A/120V plug is useful if camping in the same spot for a couple days.
@@TeslaCampingCanada Ontario campgrounds have TT-30 at RV sites but they're usually not right beside the site. It's usually a shared area in between the camp sites so you need long extension cords.
The exterior temp reading is lower because the outside temp sensors are able to pick up the heat loss from the outside air that's being pumped into the cabin. you must have been camping on a night with fairly low wind.
you can also disable the phone as key when you go to your tesla app/security/disable phone key. now you can still use your phone to control something else.
I’ve also had issues with camp mode when there’s no internet. The car thinks no one is in it because the seat sensors detect no one, so if you hit the wrong HVAC button and deactivate camp mode, the car will turn itself off, including the screen. Then you’ll have to open the door to get the screen to activate and allow you to turn camp mode back on. You’re right that the app should have more features available directly over Bluetooth.
Yes! Thank you! More Bluetooth functionality! It's crazy that even the music controls in the app are through internet and not Bluetooth. It should default to use Bluetooth for all controls if in range, if not then go through the internet. I've had to do the door thing too I think. Also, In the summer I often sleep in the car without using camp mode, so the car is totally asleep.
You should keep the fan on auto, yes it’s noisier but will use less energy to keep the cabin warm, as with a low fan mode the compressor will run harder to compensate generating more heat as the low fan rate can’t heat the car consistently.
Very good that you didn’t add an annoying background soundtrack! I was surprised they provided an electrical plug in source right in your camp site. Is there an extra charge for that? Thanks for posting.
Ya I hate annoying unnecessary music too :) In the winter this campground only has power sites available I believe. Usually in the summer, power sites are slightly more expensive than non-power sites.
Yeah, after this I saw the video from the Whats Inside Guy. I think probably the better setup for the Cybertruck might be as a real basecamp sort of thing. With some sort of tent in the bed with heat/cooling powered via the electrical outlets. However that is something totally different than Camp Mode in a typical Tesla thus far. @@juzoff
its only great when you have electricity around but for people with ICE vehicles you can literaly go everywhere you want all year round! ive seen someone camping in the middle of nowhere in its own built camper on a ford 7.3 l idi 350 i think, its actually fun tbh! having more freedom.
@@alanmay7929 with ICE vehicle you need to run the engine the whole night to stay warm. Not all places to let you idle the whole night. And it also might be dangerous too due to exhaust gases which may enter the cabin and cause poisoning (it happens more often than you may think). You can get a specific diesel heater aka WEBASTO installed though. But that’s not for all vehicles. And again. You need to burn fuel the whole night.
i always had a weird temperature reading in my Model 3. I would precondition it in the garage for work (which is warmer than outside of course) but it won't register the change in temperature for 15 minutes into the drive and then fog me up all of sudden when it does change to the outside temp. I guess yours is even weirder reading 6 degrees less than actual
@@TeslaCampingCanada For what it's worth, I would trust the steady state of the car's temp sensor more than what looks like a cooking oriented analog/mechanical gauge. The gauge is designed to have the probe be at a certain temperature and the dial at roughly room temperature, and the car likely uses an RTD. The RTD is inside of a plastic housing, so this adds a lot of time for it to catch up to large sudden temperature swings, but unless it's damaged or somehow ingested moisture I would bet more money on its calibration being closer to reality in these conditions.
@@dylanmahoney1401 It definitely could be that the car was accurate. I didn't consider it at the time, because I've never noticed that analog thermometer to be wrong before and I check it every morning on my patio. @@TeslaCampingCanada No worries! I can't say for certain that I'm right, if you use that probe in these conditions and it's accurate every day then maybe the car is wrong! But the good (albeit a little extreme) mindset to have is to never trust just one sensor in isolation :) In industries where measurement accuracy really really matters, engineers will use 3+ sensors (of perhaps varying types) to make it dual fault tolerant, and then take the median value. So another practical way to look at it is the real temperature was somewhere in between the two measurements haha
Did you try to use your phone as an AP and then connect it to car? I use that technique on my robo cleaner since I have unlimited plan and no router, otherwise it won't work.
That's pretty nice the campsite was opened. Did the outlet actually have power? In the US, most, if not all, campsites that have snow and are run by government are closed during the winter. How much is the site with electrical hookup?
