I love the card. That girl is just so quirky. I'm glad I found you. I watched Tim Holtz last week and he said these inks wouldn't work as you just showed. I'm glad you ventured into it. I'm going to play later today -- this way. Thank you for playing!!
Awesome card! Now I know what I can do with the several boxes of photo paper I own. Also, the name of that stamp is called Prom Queen, in case viewers decide to go look for it. Thanks for sharing. 😄
What a great use for photo paper, I have load of this paper, cause it always comes free when I order printer ink. Now I can find a use for it. Great idea Karin.
I loved this video!! I'm a paper crafter and very interested in starting to use distress inks. Thank you for showing comparison. I have a lot of photo paper that my cousin gave me and I want to use this technique!! I loved the stamp too!! I also just subscribed!!
Oh yes! I saw the Treasures of Many came up with this technique. What a happy accident for her. So glad she shared it with us so we can all try it out!
This is the first time I’ve seen one of your videos and I really enjoyed it. Now I’ll need to go back and look for some of your older videos! I’m hitting Subscribe!! lol......
I must say I prefer the oxidized look for that particular card you were making. I love the vibrancy of the background but didn’t particularly care for it for the card you were making. Overall a very informative vid. Thank you for answering my question about the colors looking similar after wiping off
The colors are slightly more vivid with the distress oxide ink, and they do make it easier to control the placement of the dye because they are much less runny. Nice demo!
Hi Karin!!! Your card is definitely perfect!!! And you made me smile and laugh all thru your video...you were just like a kid in the toy store when you wiped off the pigment part of the ink off the photo paper!!! I recently bought a package of glossy photo paper and I'm definitely going to do this!!! This was such a fun video....I saved it and it's got its own file...oxide and photo paper!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!! You rock Karin!!!🦋
Love it..😁that looks awsome hun...i think the whole colour palette and the girls stamp (wich is awsome) suits your personality 😁....& mine....ha ha probly why i love the wacky vibrancy of it...well done keep on crafting..x
Karin... I love Your videos, and have subscribed. You show the mistakes, and Know when to stop and change things to recover from something unexpected. That’s very important. Walk away and re-think. It keeps Us from stalling the progress. Just keep going!!! Hugs from Bend, Oregon.
Very delightful tutorial and your enthusiasm is infectious. Really love this technique with the distress oxide inks. Who would have thought to wipe off the “haze” or the oxidation part. I don’t know what it is either but the results so look like alcohol inks. Love it and have lots of ideas floating around in my head!!!
what a fun and vibrant card. Ive been watching a few tim holtz videos and your video was in my recommendation. So glad to be watching even a year on from you making this T x
Cute! Try stamping using a thick piece of craft foam or corrugated cardboard box piece under your paper. Works great, you need less pressure as the stamp sinks into the softer surface. Hugs Kate in NY 😜
Fabulous card funky first time viewer am a follower for sure oxide inks are my fav you have showed me a new way thank till next time keep up yr great ideas 👌💜
Oh loved you video... you seemed so excited and having so much fun.... I don't have oxides but I have just got some new ink colours so will give it a go with them... oh here in UK we call them pipettes too. Xx
Thanks for watching Elaine! It was so much fun to do!! Ha, so I did get the word right :) sometimes I just can't find the right words. Hugs from Holland!
haha, when I look back a video, I sometimes hear myself litteraly translate a Dutch saying....that must be really confusing for the viewers sometimes ;)
I have the distress oxide inks but never thought to mix them with photo paper I use them with my jewelry I make from 140lb watercolor paper but the matte finish does not bother me right now because the pieces I make are glazed with a polycrylic finish.
Aww thanks for the video :-) I'm pretty sure you wiped off the "oxide effect" as they're designed to dry chalky like that haha. Great to know how these inks work :-)
Wow, I really like your card the colours look stronger on photo paper,, I cant wait to try it also.your video has inspired me ànd i think Tim Holtz oxide inks are great. Thank you🙂🙂
Great technique, saw the same thing several months ago on treasures of many. I think she called it photo oxide. There are several videos on it over there.
P.S. This method would also allow us to buy only one ink! I bought a bunch of oxide sprays not really knowing what to do with them and now there’s twice the possibilities! Awesome!!💕
Oh my goodness I absolutely LOVE this card!! That stamp is so cute I really need that in my stash!! This will make a great card for the holiday Halloween coming up in the states.. the technique was really cool, looks like soooo much fun. I love your enthusiasm! You really made me excited with and for you! Thanks so much for sharing I really love this card!!! Hugs
Karin, the card is fun and I love the magic with the baby wipe! When I see where you put the stamp, your background gave her a cap of red and blue haha, looks cute. I love the scribble borders, they fit the whole scene but especially goes well with the sentiment! Perfect card and perfect fun! Thanks again.
Thankyou so much I thought I would have to buy more inks! and wanted to try the photo paper but did not want to buy the oxides yet ! great video and subscribed x
Fun technique Karin, I love that you experiment for/with us! I wonder if "glossy" was a word you were looking for when describing the sheen on the card perhaps?
Hi Karen thankyou so much for your reply I did what you suggested and googled there doesn't seam to be so I went ahead and ordered the distress white loved watching you looking forward to more to come
Saludos una pregunta si estampo con el color negro yo sé que tiene excelente definición pero mi duda es puede dibujar con marcadores de alcohol no se correla tinta gracias 😀😀😀
Hi Karin,...Love that stamp!...and I like the weird too! Lol...when I was learning what to do with alcohol inks, someone had used the 'backside' of photo paper with better results. It was compared to yupo paper. I haven't yet tried it with alcohol inks but I will. I'd be interested to know if you've tried using the backside?
I learned something new today. I love it! I was wondering, on the second card, what happens if you wipe with the baby wipes like you did with the first one? That way it would be a true comparison. Thanks for taking the time to make a video.
I haven't tried that because I used Dylusion Sprays ink. But I think you'd need something permanent, because the paper is glossy. But nor sure, I need to try that! Hugs from Holland! oh, I just tried it for you.... but normal markers work too ;)
that's weird that you DE -oxidized the paper when you wiped it off (essentially right? you wiped off the layer that was the 'oxidization' basically if i'm seeing things right... which you end up saying too) :( could have done that with regular Distress Ink if you didn't want the oxidization aspect of the Oxides though, right? i mean if vibrancy is what you want, then that's what you want is the regular old Distress Ink. which is awesome too. i love my Distress Inks and I have every single one of em. (and i say that cuz some people act like Distress Ink is old so it's not a current & cool product just cuz it's old. i disagree. they are all so awesome)... BUT I do have to say the Oxides are easier to layer and layer and layer whereas the Regular Inks layer AND blend, and you can only go so far before you gotta stop. It's easier & BETTER to layer 1000 times with the Oxides.
Thanks for watching! Yes, when the card was finished, I thought that I might as wel have used normal Distress inks ;) But it is fun to do!! And as you say, the layering is awesome with Oxide inks. But I still use my Distress inks a lot. Hugs from the Netherlands!
I do wonder, however, if using the oxides helps with layering them *differently* so maybe it's still a better "layer" once you take that pigment layer off. Because to *me* (maybe i was seeing it wrong, I dunno) it looked like the layers didn't muddy nearly as much as the regular distress whereas the Oxides (once the pigment layer was off) looked *pure* in color even as they crossed each other in the layers. like i said, maybe my eyes aren't seeing what they think they're seeing, but i could've sworn the Oxides' layers looked purer in color and not as muddy. They are certainly fun and i can NOT wait til I'm off work the next 5 days to swatch the rest of my Oxides & start playing. :)
I think layering is easier with the Oxide inks. I love my Distress inks, but I'm very good at making mud colour! lol! The inks are so different to work with, but also a bit the same ;) I hope you'll have lots of fun working with the Oxide inks! Hugs!
I know this is a year on but I wonder if it would be helpful for others who watch this video and read the comments to know, the difference between the distress inks and that oxide inks are actually more than just there oxidizing abilities. The distress inks will only be vibrant on white paper where as the oxides will be vibrant on any coloured card. Oxide inks are more opaque because they are a pigment ink the distress inks are dye inks which is why they can only be vibrant on white paper. I hope this has been useful in knowing the differences between the two. Though I suspect you personally already know the difference now lol
Tartantaz Creates THankyou , I’m only just starting out with using inks and I couldn’t understand the differences between them. Good to know . THankyou
I am really glad I watched this video, Karin, because I have been dithering over whether to buy Oxide Inks or not. I have held out this long because I didn't really think they were different enough from the Distress Inks and I don't like that 'haze' you get with them. I much prefer the vibrant colour you exposed when you wiped the oxidation off. Looking between the two, with the oxidation on and then off, there really is no context. But as you demonstrated the Distress Inks work just as well on photo paper. I have a full box of 6" x 4" Epsom photo paper in a box, maybe a 100 so I know what to do with them. One last thing, have you found it worthwhile buying the Oxide Inks or not? If you didn't have them, would you buy them? Thanks so much for this video, Karin. Brilliant as usual. Hugs from England xxxx
I must be honnest and say that I haven't used the inks in a long time. I know they are very different to the normal distress inkw. I myself really do like the pastel look they have. But I'm not sure if I would have bought so many. I think I would only have bought a few colours! Because they are fun! I guess I need to use them more! Hugs!
Love this card ad your enthusiasm in just going for it!! I wonder if it can be re-activated in any way if it came in contact with water/moisture? Would sealing it with the Tim Holtz glaze (micro glaze?) I saw a clip recently where he demo'd it using it with a glossy alcohol paper & the oxides - I think? Just curious. Either way love the weird and whimsy!! ☆♡☆
I saw the clip where Tim used the micro glaze...looks cool. But with my baby whipe i think i got the same result....and to add to my other comment, when you sprits water and then heatset...then it's permanent.
Oh my goodness! There are fragrance free baby wipes?! I can‘t stand the smell...it stays in my nose like forever. Thanks for testing the cheap paper. I thought about buying the ranger glossy paper but now I know I don‘t need it for that technique.
I hat the perfume smell of those babywhipes too. So I'm very happy with these! To be honest, the Ranger paper is thicker and works better, but this works too! Hugs!
I love the card. That girl is just so quirky. I'm glad I found you. I watched Tim Holtz last week and he said these inks wouldn't work as you just showed. I'm glad you ventured into it. I'm going to play later today -- this way. Thank you for playing!!

I hope this has been useful in knowing the differences between the two. Though I suspect you personally already know the difference now lol
Tartantaz Creates THankyou , I’m only just starting out with using inks and I couldn’t understand the differences between them. Good to know . THankyou
You can wipe a pattern onto the photo paper when you use the oxide, whereas you cannot with the plain distress.
Thanks for watching and the tip Kay! Hugs from Holland!
Why don't you unmount the stamp from the block
That's a good idea Sandra Miranda....but it just looks so great on the block!
Holy cow!
indeed Karen! lol!
Hugs!
Wat gaaf zeg! Je hebt dus geen Micro glaze nodig. Zijn het gewone baby wibes?
Ja, zo heb ik het gedaan. Het ws een leuk effect. Groetjes, Karin
I think it's permanent once sprayed with water....haven't tried to re-activate it again :) I'd have to check that Tim Holz clip!
Hugs from Holland!
Hugs!
