I had some "cheapo" photo paper in my stash and discovered stamping on the BACK of it (non-glossy side) I got a very crisp image! Thanks for the inspiration!
suuuuuuperrrr technics on fotopaper...I was been told, that you can not use fotopaper for stamping and ink workings, but now... wauwww.. I'm going to try it too..thank you so much for teh video. crafty greetings from Holland
Pigment-based inks will never dry on glossy paper, even when you spray hairspray over it. The hairspray will disintegrate and the card recipient will get smeared with wet ink. Most metallics are pigment-based because they need to sit on top to reflect the light. Never “seal” things that are wet. Rubbing it off to reveal just the dye was a better idea. The main advantage of expensive alcohol inks is they stick to metal, ceramic, glass, acetate etc., so no need to waste them on paper. Here’s another fun idea: you can use your regular dye-based (not pigment or alcohol-based) inks and markers AFTER you have printed actual photos on that photo paper. Looks especially cool on B&W photos. And one more thing: good old-fashioned watercolors work the same way as your re-inkers, if you want a softer, more subtle look.
I swear my computer reads my mind! Yesterday I piled up all my 4x6 photo paper ready to take to the Thrift Store. This morning I got up and thought, "I could use this for crafts". When I did my morning check-in on RUclips (to see what's happening in the world), I nearly fell off my chair when your photo-paper video popped up!
Sasha, a long time ago, I saw a video where a woman showed how to make her own blending solution using the following recipe: 3 ounces 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and add 9 drops of vegetable glycerine (commonly found in pharmacy/drug stores). The blending solution which has glycerin really helps with the blending. I used some on my own channel but can’t remember which video! 🤷🏼♀️ I hope this recipe helps some of your subscribers. ♥️
Photo paper, shave cream and swirled alcohol inks make interesting and glossy marble backgrounds too. I bought up loads of photo paper a few years back and l don’t know if l will use it all. Sharing it with a few of my crafty friends so we can try your ideas too. I love using layering stencils on the glossy photo paper too.
Oh, that pink 'n' blue background reminded me of something you might see in a science-fiction movie...it looked like sky with a planet or moon in the distance. Actually, several of your backgrounds had that feel to them, for me at least. And I'm guessing that your re-inkers took so well to the front side of your photo paper because most printer ink is dye-based. At any rate, something new for me to try, too. Thanks, Sasha!
Aloha from Maui I have pursued watercolor, and have a great deal of photo paper cards that I haven't played with, I inherited them at a yard sale and will explore later this week. Mahalo for the inspiration ..I subscribed! I appreciate your free spirit. Imua!
Thank you so so much. If i get negative feedback it's always that they hate seeing the process- which i always find helpful when i watch videos, because i know what to avoid trying when i have a play. Thank you for your lovely comment
Sasha,, this blew me away, totally amazing, just what I needed, bright and so cheerful, have tons of alcohol inks that are unused. Sasha, I am so glad you made this tutorial. Many blessings to you and your family. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Simply Gorgeous, Gorgeous cards Sasha! 😃 I just Love your talent! (Lets see if This comments stays , this time) lol. The last several videos you had up, YT stated being silly, again! 😬 grrrrr. Have a Blessed Day, Sweet Friend
I think I like how the Distress Oxides turned out the best, but all look terrific! Hmmm...I have an unopened packet of photo paper in a drawer here.... ;)
I've used photopaper exclusively for years. Always the backside though for both Alcohol Ink and Acrylic Paint Pouring. My experience has been that Glossy photopaper is the best and the more premium papers even though they are more expensive. I am in Canada and use the Staples brand. I have a roll of photo paper that's 24" wide so I can do big works. You've given me some ideas though -- thank you for the inspiring video! Here's something fun -- take your six favourite colours of alcohol ink including 1 metalic. Tape your photopaper to your cutting board (I use cutting boards for all my paint pouring with photopaper). Tip your cutting board up to about 75 degrees. I actually use my cellphone stand covered in a plastic bag. Drip columns of ink down the page by putting the ink bottle at the top of the page and give it a little bit of a squirt -- not a lot, a few drops is all you need. You can add some alcohol squirts or drips for additional fun. You'll love the results!
I picked some photo paper up at a garage sale and honestly had no idea why...LOL now I know what I can play with, thank you so much for sharing these gorgeous cards and for inspiring me yet again!
Wow, such gorgeous results! I tried photo paper but only the shiny side so thought it didn't work. NOW I will be using the OTHER side! Thank you so much!
Great video young lady 👏👏 I especially liked the Tim Holtz one too. I can't wait to use up some of my photo papers and inks. I'm 76, and always enjoy something new to try. God bless you. 🥰
I had a blast watching your excellent video. Thank you for all the work you put into these videos for us. I loved all of your samples and of course your cards. 🇨🇦
First time watching, I believe. I work at an art museum, and we also offer art classes to the public. I may get hate comments from this, but as an educator myself, it's my responsibility to mention this. Your enthusiasm is contagious and wonderful, but please remember to include in writing and verbally the incredible danger of using alcohol inks without the proper safety equipment and ventilation. I won't explain further because you strike me as an intelligent crafter/artist who knows how to google. Just check out something like dangers of alcohol inks, etc. We had one class at the museum with ventilation, but I found out...not nearly enough. We no longer do them, but if we did, we would move outside and use respirators. One of my dearest friends and world class master artist is no longer with us because he generally dismissed safety precautions. Can't tell you how I miss him, and his wife is really struggling. All this stuff aside, I love the experimental process, your energy, tone, whimsy, and direct approach. P.S. your video isn't too long.
I’ve always had a hard time sleeping I’m 76 I started using alcohol inks and I started sleeping I thought it was because I was so relaxed with this form of art… It wasn’t my kids came over and on the back of the solution that you spread the inks with it had Ether in it so that’s why I was sleeping so the next time I used a lot of ventilation but I did enjoy the sleep
Someones been having fun, all really addictive once you start. I've only been using the alcohol inks a few months and watching lots of you tube and have used about 3/4 of a pack of 100 sheets of 4 x 6. Try putting a drop down on the paper and adding a little bit of alcohol just on the edge of it instead of the middle, then blow it out with the blower, you get some great whispy designs doing that, like flowers when you go right around the edge with the drops of alcohol and blowing out the way. I must try smooshing with water based inks on the shiny side, it looks great :) x
oooo more exciting things to experiment with! Thank you! Honestly having so much fun, i bought another 200 sheets so im good to go for a little while..... i hope....
My first time watching one of your videos and you did not disappoint! Such beautiful backgrounds and wonderful cards. I'm going to go dig out that 10 year old photo paper and have a play today. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve done this using distress oxides but over a stamped and embossed silhouette image ( landscapes , ocean scenes , sunsets, space themes etc ) and it’s amazing how quickly you get a wonderful card front . Also added die cut silhouettes and absolutely loved it 😍 it’s such a fun way to create and use up dyes , inks etc you have sitting in a drawer almost never used … When I think of all the photo paper I gave away because it was a pain buying photo quality refills for my printer when you could get a photo printed for under 20cents..I wish I had kept it 😐
WOW ! Just WOW ! I've always been drawn to the abstract art ! Any medium, whether tissue paper, acrylic, watercolors or fabric paints ! But I don't believe I have achieved these results. Of course my crafting/painting began in the late '50s when alcohol etc paints were not available Alenes cart supplies were (and still are) available ! But again WoW ! 🙋 Nana in se OK usa
About 30 yrs ago when I taught a backgrounds class we would put 4~>8 drops of color (alcohol, ink, reinkers) on a pcs of felt that was attached to a blending tool (tool w/velcro.) First you dot your paper w/say 3~>4 dots of metallic paint. Then put down your tool w/color (& a few drops of blending solution.) It’s fun to twist the tool too!! I can usually get several diff prints from 1 inking. You can also add more solution to the felt. Yes you used MUCH more than I do but your backgrounds & cards looked gorgeous!! You can also put down another pcs of paper to make a print off 1st sheet if there’s a lot of product on it. We always used glossy card stock. King James 10, 12, 14 PT CS1 (coated 1 side)
OMGoodness awesomeness-shine-texture-marbley-backgrounds❣️These are fantastic! Never thought to do the back side of the photo paper or try photo paper with die inks❤️ thanks for sharing!
💕 Loved your cards! I have a ton of photo paper and was so surprised when you did the backs of the papers. I saved your video so I can rewatch it when I’m ready to experiment. Sasha, your cards all turned out so beautifully! I really love the ones with the scraps made into little banners, so cute! I have done these techniques, but not for several months so I think it's time I made some more! Thanks for always inspiring!
Some are awesome and I love it. I will review one more time before order the products or find stores and thank you to share with us, all. I really enjoy it and keep up girl!!! Ha lol
OMG these are just beautiful. I love them all, but the red & yellow one. Oh my. Just stunning. You looked like you were having so much fun. Thanks for all of the tips & techniques.
Oh my Goodness ! Those backgrounds are beautiful ! Thanks for doing all the experimenting for us and letting us know what works best. I love all of them. Those galaxy looking cards are the best. and my favorites are the strips cards. I love strips cards. Thanks Sasha.
How beautiful these are. This technique I love best. I did similar with water and markers, and few with spray inks. Had a ball, didn't want to stop. I'll have to try some photo paper with my spray inks perhaps. Thanks for sharing.. great video!!!!👍👍💕💕
I had some "cheapo" photo paper in my stash and discovered stamping on the BACK of it (non-glossy side) I got a very crisp image! Thanks for the inspiration!
It also hold alcohol markers very well if you color on the backside :)
suuuuuuperrrr technics on fotopaper...I was been told, that you can not use fotopaper for stamping and ink workings, but now... wauwww.. I'm going to try it too..thank you so much for teh video. crafty greetings from Holland

Brilliant! Im sure you guys will have a hoot, it's so easy and satisfying
You're the only scraper that shows a beautifully finished card. You never let us hang with just the finished background.
Many times when I am thrifting, I see photo paper for cheap. I will be buying it more often to play. 😀😜❤️
You can also layer the colours....when they dry, you can dip them again (on the front side, at least), with Distress Oxide or dye inks. Loads of fun!!
Oh, that pink 'n' blue background reminded me of something you might see in a science-fiction movie...it looked like sky with a planet or moon in the distance. Actually, several of your backgrounds had that feel to them, for me at least.

yes that's totally how i felt when i was doing it, they felt a bit moody ha ha. Im so playing again very soon! loved the effects

I'm sorry. I know what it is, to lose the special ones. 🤍
Very true and important, I also wonder about heating(fumes) and airborne embossing powders which are fine plastics.
M so very sorry about your friend 😢 💔 😞
Great tip and tricks. Beautiful cards.
Thank you Diana :)
Such vibrant colours. Think I must try this.

OMG, how cute, I have a ton of photo paper, inks forever, and tonic shimmers, may have to get started to play!
Brilliant tutorial ... have been hanging onto packs of photo paper through several moves ... now I know why 🤭👌😍

Hello Linda
