I had some "cheapo" photo paper in my stash and discovered stamping on the BACK of it (non-glossy side) I got a very crisp image! Thanks for the inspiration!
It also hold alcohol markers very well if you color on the backside :)
Sasha, a long time ago, I saw a video where a woman showed how to make her own blending solution using the following recipe: 3 ounces 91% Isopropyl Alcohol and add 9 drops of vegetable glycerine (commonly found in pharmacy/drug stores). The blending solution which has glycerin really helps with the blending. I used some on my own channel but can’t remember which video! 🤷🏼♀️ I hope this recipe helps some of your subscribers. ♥️
Thank you so much for sharing your recipe with everyone. I did a screen shot and off I go!!
Photo paper, shave cream and swirled alcohol inks make interesting and glossy marble backgrounds too. I bought up loads of photo paper a few years back and l don’t know if l will use it all. Sharing it with a few of my crafty friends so we can try your ideas too. I love using layering stencils on the glossy photo paper too.
Brilliant! Im sure you guys will have a hoot, it's so easy and satisfying
I swear my computer reads my mind! Yesterday I piled up all my 4x6 photo paper ready to take to the Thrift Store. This morning I got up and thought, "I could use this for crafts". When I did my morning check-in on RUclips (to see what's happening in the world), I nearly fell off my chair when your photo-paper video popped up!
Pigment-based inks will never dry on glossy paper, even when you spray hairspray over it. The hairspray will disintegrate and the card recipient will get smeared with wet ink. Most metallics are pigment-based because they need to sit on top to reflect the light. Never “seal” things that are wet. Rubbing it off to reveal just the dye was a better idea. The main advantage of expensive alcohol inks is they stick to metal, ceramic, glass, acetate etc., so no need to waste them on paper. Here’s another fun idea: you can use your regular dye-based (not pigment or alcohol-based) inks and markers AFTER you have printed actual photos on that photo paper. Looks especially cool on B&W photos. And one more thing: good old-fashioned watercolors work the same way as your re-inkers, if you want a softer, more subtle look.
You can also layer the colours....when they dry, you can dip them again (on the front side, at least), with Distress Oxide or dye inks. Loads of fun!!
Oh, that pink 'n' blue background reminded me of something you might see in a science-fiction movie...it looked like sky with a planet or moon in the distance. Actually, several of your backgrounds had that feel to them, for me at least.
And I'm guessing that your re-inkers took so well to the front side of your photo paper because most printer ink is dye-based. At any rate, something new for me to try, too. Thanks, Sasha!
yes that's totally how i felt when i was doing it, they felt a bit moody ha ha. Im so playing again very soon! loved the effects
I think I like how the Distress Oxides turned out the best, but all look terrific! Hmmm...I have an unopened packet of photo paper in a drawer here.... ;)
Hello Patti
Many times when I am thrifting, I see photo paper for cheap. I will be buying it more often to play. 😀😜❤️
Someones been having fun, all really addictive once you start. I've only been using the alcohol inks a few months and watching lots of you tube and have used about 3/4 of a pack of 100 sheets of 4 x 6. Try putting a drop down on the paper and adding a little bit of alcohol just on the edge of it instead of the middle, then blow it out with the blower, you get some great whispy designs doing that, like flowers when you go right around the edge with the drops of alcohol and blowing out the way. I must try smooshing with water based inks on the shiny side, it looks great :) x
oooo more exciting things to experiment with! Thank you! Honestly having so much fun, i bought another 200 sheets so im good to go for a little while..... i hope....
That sounds great but I get a terrible headache every time I tried using the alcohol inks. It also makes me sick to my stomach
Such clever ideas! Great video!
suuuuuuperrrr technics on fotopaper...I was been told, that you can not use fotopaper for stamping and ink workings, but now... wauwww.. I'm going to try it too..thank you so much for teh video. crafty greetings from Holland
Honestly it was so much fun and so rewarding! You'll love it
Sasha, you are a genius! This is definitely going to be my new obsession. I love the glossy effect of the photo paper!
honestly it is bonkers fun! the colour just gets sucked in!
You're the only scraper that shows a beautifully finished card. You never let us hang with just the finished background.
Sasha,, this blew me away, totally amazing, just what I needed, bright and so cheerful, have tons of alcohol inks that are unused. Sasha, I am so glad you made this tutorial. Many blessings to you and your family. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Oh wow, when you rubbed the ink on the dry oxide ink card, what an amazing finish!
🌼 really love watching your process
playing is so much fun and remember, no accidents, we have Happy Accidents
Thank you so so much. If i get negative feedback it's always that they hate seeing the process- which i always find helpful when i watch videos, because i know what to avoid trying when i have a play. Thank you for your lovely comment
Beautiful cards Sasha, what a terrific idea. The possibilities are endless. Tfs
Hi Maria
What gorgeous results you got! I love every one of them! Your cards are beautiful.
Hi Karen
About 30 yrs ago when I taught a backgrounds class we would put 4~>8 drops of color (alcohol, ink, reinkers) on a pcs of felt that was attached to a blending tool (tool w/velcro.) First you dot your paper w/say 3~>4 dots of metallic paint. Then put down your tool w/color (& a few drops of blending solution.) It’s fun to twist the tool too!! I can usually get several diff prints from 1 inking. You can also add more solution to the felt. Yes you used MUCH more than I do but your backgrounds & cards looked gorgeous!! You can also put down another pcs of paper to make a print off 1st sheet if there’s a lot of product on it. We always used glossy card stock. King James 10, 12, 14 PT CS1 (coated 1 side)
Oh my gosh I even see photo paper at my thrift store all the time. I think I’ll pick up a few packets…..have some fun. Thanks!!!
This is fabulous! It’s also wonderful to have someone in the UK so I can buy the products! Frustrating when everyone else (that I follow) is USA based….now I just need to pop to Robert Dyas! Thanks again!
ha ha you're the second person to tell me that! Im glad you've found me, i like a bargain as well so im always keen to share those! I ordered my board online then collected it in store. Might be worth checking they have them in before you venture out. It was £5, this is the one i got: www.robertdyas.co.uk/clear-glass-worktop-saver
@@SashaReade thank you. Much appreciated that you take the time to read and reply x
I've used photopaper exclusively for years. Always the backside though for both Alcohol Ink and Acrylic Paint Pouring. My experience has been that Glossy photopaper is the best and the more premium papers even though they are more expensive. I am in Canada and use the Staples brand. I have a roll of photo paper that's 24" wide so I can do big works. You've given me some ideas though -- thank you for the inspiring video!
Here's something fun -- take your six favourite colours of alcohol ink including 1 metalic. Tape your photopaper to your cutting board (I use cutting boards for all my paint pouring with photopaper). Tip your cutting board up to about 75 degrees. I actually use my cellphone stand covered in a plastic bag. Drip columns of ink down the page by putting the ink bottle at the top of the page and give it a little bit of a squirt -- not a lot, a few drops is all you need. You can add some alcohol squirts or drips for additional fun. You'll love the results!
Hi Susan
Wow - what great ideas - definitely going to have fun creating some great cards
Wow. Couldn't help but get caught up in your excitement. Searching in the cupboard now for that pack of photo paper! 👏😀💕🇿🇦
Stunning cards....great job!
I love hearing someone else get as excited as me when crafting/painting. 😁💞👏🦋
Hello how are you doing my friend
I’ve done this using distress oxides but over a stamped and embossed silhouette image ( landscapes , ocean scenes , sunsets, space themes etc ) and it’s amazing how quickly you get a wonderful card front . Also added die cut silhouettes and absolutely loved it 😍 it’s such a fun way to create and use up dyes , inks etc you have sitting in a drawer almost never used …
When I think of all the photo paper I gave away because it was a pain buying photo quality refills for my printer when you could get a photo printed for under 20cents..I wish I had kept it 😐
I picked some photo paper up at a garage sale and honestly had no idea why...LOL now I know what I can play with, thank you so much for sharing these gorgeous cards and for inspiring me yet again!
Ha ha yep, now you just need to remember where you stored it!
Gotta try this. I buy photo paper in packs of 100 for scrapbooking so I have plenty to practice with.
It's so so fun!
Sasha. There is only one word to describe this WOW!. Thank you
I know it was bonkers fun, i couldnt believe I didnt play with this paper before now!!!
These are really cool! Possibilities are endless
💖💖💖👏👏👏🇦🇺
Aloha from Maui I have pursued watercolor, and have a great deal of photo paper cards that I haven't played with, I inherited them at a yard sale and will explore later this week. Mahalo for the inspiration ..I subscribed! I appreciate your free spirit. Imua!
I have lots of unused photo paper... Not anymore! Absolutely love this video!! Great ideas!!!
Hello Rhonda
Those are amazing backgrounds! I love them all!

Fantabidosie fantabulous 👏🏾👏🏻👏🏾👏🏻👏🏾👏🏻🌹🌟💖🥰
Wow! I watched another of your videos first, directing me here! I am gonna' PLAY! TFS! 🥰🦘🦘🦘
💕 Loved your cards!
I have a ton of photo paper and was so surprised when you did the backs of the papers.
I saved your video so I can rewatch it when I’m ready to experiment. Right now working on reorganization and categorization of all my thousands (not exaggerating) of stamps and dies so the room and desk are upside down. But I can’t wait to give it a try! TYFS 🤗
Hello Linda
Beautiful! I use photo paper all the time. I use a baby wipe on the distress oxide ones and they are so beautiful!!
Hello 👋
Oh boy I have tons of photo paper in my stash. I’m going to try this soon! Thanks this was fun to watch.
Love this technique Sasha. Totally spent a day watching a few of your videos, very informative and motivating. Thank you.
BEAUTIFULLY EXECUTED! You are a true creative!
9:04 was gorgeous...it looked like a photo from outer space.
OMGoodness awesomeness-shine-texture-marbley-backgrounds❣️These are fantastic! Never thought to do the back side of the photo paper or try photo paper with die inks❤️ thanks for sharing!
Exceptional backgrounds, vibrant colours, just beautiful. 😍
Watching this for a second time, I am amazed even more! I never knew what to XO with all of the excess photo paper that I've accumulated
Ha ha that is fab! Thank you Annette!
I love your backgrounds, but I love your enthusiasm even more..... thank you young lady
WOW ! Just WOW ! I've always been drawn to the abstract art ! Any medium, whether tissue paper, acrylic, watercolors or fabric paints ! But I don't believe I have achieved these results. Of course my crafting/painting began in the late '50s when alcohol etc paints were not available Alenes cart supplies were (and still are) available ! But again WoW ! 🙋 Nana in se OK usa
Hello Gloria
Very cool video! Makes me wanna go play 🤩 you probably know this, but if you use a workable fixative instead of hairspray, you can continue to work on top without any issues. For instance, you can stamp on top of it and it won't smudge!
Wow!!! I am so glad I found your channel...Your work is impeccable!!! Very Nice!!!🥰
Wow, such gorgeous results! I tried photo paper but only the shiny side so thought it didn't work. NOW I will be using the OTHER side! Thank you so much!
My first time watching one of your videos and you did not disappoint! Such beautiful backgrounds and wonderful cards. I'm going to go dig out that 10 year old photo paper and have a play today. Thanks for sharing.
Love love love this video! Just gorgeous 😍 ❤ ty from Michigan, USA

Thank you for showing me what to do with my photo paper. ❤️
Thanks Sasha, I loved all of them and can't wait to give it a try.
Beautiful ! Thank you for sharing 🥰🙏☮️🌈🌟
Hi Kathleen
Love this video sooooo much! I thought I was going to have to buy al ohol inks and you just confirmed I do NOT need them. Crack'en good! Thank you!!
I loved the strips so much. You had a blast doing these, it was easy to tell. 😉❤️
Holy moley! I've not had any luck with alcohol inks, no matter which side of the paper I used. I do have quite a few Oxide re-inkers, so I'll definitely be trying this. Yours are so gorgeous! Happy crafting!
IM sure you'll have success with this, it was so fun and easy
Gorgeous!!! I can't believe how nice this stuff is!!! Thanks for the wonderful video!!
Great video young lady 👏👏 I especially liked the Tim Holtz one too. I can't wait to use up some of my photo papers and inks. I'm 76, and always enjoy something new to try. God bless you. 🥰
Loved your enthusiasm and fabulous backgrounds!
Hi Wendy
I had a blast watching your excellent video. Thank you for all the work you put into these videos for us. I loved all of your samples and of course your cards. 🇨🇦
Your cards are beautiful! The tip at the end to save the scraps…genius! 💕
OMG, how cute, I have a ton of photo paper, inks forever, and tonic shimmers, may have to get started to play!
AWESOME!!!😱😍and it looks Super fun👍😁
Brilliant tutorial ... have been hanging onto packs of photo paper through several moves ... now I know why 🤭👌😍
Ha ha, this is the common theme in the comments. People had it but werent sure why!
Great video!! Love your smiley face comment; that had me laughing out loud! Thank you. How’s your mother? She’s in my prayers, as are you.
WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW! 🤩
That has got to be the prettiest backgrounds and cards that I’ve ever seen!
Thank you for sharing this video!!!
This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen. I’m so happy that I decided to click on it.
Thanks again! ♥️
awe thank you so much Julie!
First time watching, I believe. I work at an art museum, and we also offer art classes to the public. I may get hate comments from this, but as an educator myself, it's my responsibility to mention this. Your enthusiasm is contagious and wonderful, but please remember to include in writing and verbally the incredible danger of using alcohol inks without the proper safety equipment and ventilation. I won't explain further because you strike me as an intelligent crafter/artist who knows how to google. Just check out something like dangers of alcohol inks, etc. We had one class at the museum with ventilation, but I found out...not nearly enough. We no longer do them, but if we did, we would move outside and use respirators. One of my dearest friends and world class master artist is no longer with us because he generally dismissed safety precautions. Can't tell you how I miss him, and his wife is really struggling. All this stuff aside, I love the experimental process, your energy, tone, whimsy, and direct approach. P.S. your video isn't too long.
I’ve always had a hard time sleeping I’m 76 I started using alcohol inks and I started sleeping I thought it was because I was so relaxed with this form of art… It wasn’t my kids came over and on the back of the solution that you spread the inks with it had Ether in it so that’s why I was sleeping so the next time I used a lot of ventilation but I did enjoy the sleep
lol that’s so funny but not really. Hopefully you are sleeping better now without the ether. ❤
I'm sorry. I know what it is, to lose the special ones. 🤍
Very true and important, I also wonder about heating(fumes) and airborne embossing powders which are fine plastics.
M so very sorry about your friend 😢 💔 😞
Wow! The scrap strip cards are super cool!!!
Sasha, your cards all turned out so beautifully! I really love the ones with the scraps made into little banners, so cute! I have done these techniques, but not for several months so I think it's time I made some more! Thanks for always inspiring!
Wow these backgrounds are gorgeous - so bright and beautiful. Love your finished cards 🦘🦘
Thank you so much :)
Hi Sasha... Oops I mean Hi Genius! These are AMAZING! I ❤️❤️❤️❤️ these backgrounds that you created. They are all pretty but I love the distress oxide ones when they are rubbed off. Love those torn dies as well. I would have had a field day spending time with you doing these. Almost like one wouldn't want to stop. TFS. PS: I definitely never mind a long video from you. 🤗💜
ha ha Noreen you are just the best! Crack me up, Genius, ha ha i love it!!! And yes the oxides, oh my! they are crafty sexy! Im so making more of them! Thank you for the encouraging words and heartfelt love. :)
Fantastic ..just great I'm learning a lot from your video...........thank you for sharing............pat
Beautiful, the backgrounds were just wonderful then you turned them into cards and oh my gosh stunning . Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Kathy
I got my photo paper in today. Looking forward to trying these experiments out myself. These are all so pretty. Thank you for the video.
I forgot all about this method now I got to pull out my photo paper and inks!
Wow!!!!!!! What beautiful backgrounds. I HAVE TO DO THIS! Thank you sooooo much
Enjoyed the fun with photo paper and inks. I can't wait to go play in my craft space.
It gets addictive! beware! ha ha
I stamped with oxide inks onto gloss photopaper last year and it was amazing
Thanks for the other hints xxx
it has the coolest result doesnt it! love it!
Absolutely terrific, l am now off to get photo paper.🤪
OMG these are just beautiful. I love them all, but the red & yellow one. Oh my. Just stunning. You looked like you were having so much fun. Thanks for all of the tips & techniques.
Honestly, soooo much fun!
Just an FYI for you. If you use the METALLIC Tim Holtz alcohol inks, etc. you HAVE to use the blending solution with it to prevent rub off. Don’t need a lot, just need the 2 to bind! 😊. And you need to use a LOT less! Lol
I absolutely loved this video! Am gonna play tomorrow!
Thanks you!
Lots of great ideas using photo paper 😍
Thanks
19 absolutely fantabloulous cards!!! ❤️😍😍😍
thank you Sasha!
Great idea. I actually got a couple packs of photo paper at dollar tree. Not sure if they still sell it. Haven't looked for it in a few months. I originally got them to use in place of glossy stock. I use the back for watercolor.
Such a fun playing session! Thank you for all the tips and tricks and even going as far as showing what cards you made with them. My favorite are the distress read inkers. They are so cool.
Hi is the re-inkers water-based. I get a terrible headache when I use alcohol ink
Wow!
Wow!
Oh wow!!😲
Holy smokes, that's cool.
I've seen Tim Holtz use the alcohol inks on YUPO, but I've been hesitant to lay out the cash for YUPO.
Recently, I saw someone on RUclips using poster board from Dollar Tree, and I thought that was more in my financial ballpark.
But THIS is amazing! Photo paper...who knew?
Thanks so much for sharing your fun and successful experiment.👍🏻🙂
AWESOME technique…my favorite were the ones done with reinkers and water. Sasha, I have something you might love. It’s the Cutterpillar glass mat. It’s similar to the Tim Holtz, except it’s clear glass instead of a black background. It has a light source that is optional and when you set the glass mat on the light source, then the background is white. I have it with the light source and you keep the glass mat on it permanently. The light source comes in handy for many different techniques in card making. I commented on Tim’s videos more than once that if he put a light souse into his glass mat that I would purchase it, but so far he hasn’t. Then Cutterpillar came out with one and I LOVE it much more than the Tim Holts black one. And the glass is tempered also so you can cut on it, and use your heat gun on it as well. It also comes with or without a cord. Without the cord it is rechargeable. 💕🌸💕
That does sound like a really fun tool! Im also not a fan of black which is one of the reasons ive not got it. I really like light coloured backgrounds when im creating. I feel like it impacts my mood as well.
@@SashaReade Exactly…me too!!!
Wow! Beautiful backgrounds and the cards-WOW!
Such vibrant colours. Think I must try this.
Hi Maggie
What a fabulous, informative video! TFS❣️
