I was interested in being an officer some years ago. But, after a bad experience with them, even with my parents escorting me to drive my car home with dead headlights. Those cops were ready to throw me in jail. Lucky my parents, sat in the car and watched as witnesses should something bad happen to me by the actions of those officers.
I decided to work in health and take legal courses in college as well. To know my rights, against officers who knowingly abuse the system in their favor.

And not to mention how she's going to give the ENTIRE police department a bad name because of the lawsuit that will follow. They could have been there to help her during her lowest moment, to help give trust and faith again in the police. Instead they only added gasoline to the fire that will fuel her during her lawsuit to get justice.

What's more is that the person who was the most confrontational and hostile was a black female officer no less! It just goes to show that race doesn't matter, American policing needs to be overhauled federally, not just state to state; it needs complete reformation.

Racial disparities have long pervaded every step of the criminal justice process, from police stops, searches, arrests, shootings and other uses of force to charging decisions, wrongful convictions, and sentences. As a result, many have concluded that a structural or institutional bias against people of color, shaped by long-standing racial, economic, and social inequities, infects the criminal justice system. These systemic inequities can also instill implicit biases - unconscious prejudices that favor in-groups and stigmatize out-groups - among individual law enforcement officials, influencing their day-to-day actions while interacting with the public. After everything has been said and done, there are people who *truly* believe the police are nothing like Nazis, at all. They become police because they have sadistic power fantasies. I've experienced this and seen this so many times, you'll never be able to convince me this isn't why a great many of them become officers. I grew up in the 2000s, right before body cams became popular in the early 2010s and the sadism I experienced from police was chilling. They seemed giddy at the opportunity to physically abuse a teenage girl, like they had thought about doing this since highschool.
I hate that bodycams can't show us the expressions of police. I feel it would be very telling.

I have to disagree with Audit the Audit conclusion. If you don't resist the seizing of your property when no warrant is produced, you lose all legal protection. You can't hope to win a lawsuit because you will appear to willingly surrender the property. Also you then wave the right to the need of a warrant so whatever is found on the phone then could become admissible in a court of law. Their force seizure of the phone is what got her out of jail, got the phone returned, and is what is allowing her lawsuit to move forward.
The only thing I could criticize this young lady about is she didn't ask for the warrant. Saying those words should have stopped the seizure in its tracks. Now, they could make a counter claim that they were now detaining her, but they still couldn't legally seize the property unless it was evidence in a crime. And good luck getting a judge to agree that a phone is somehow evidence in a arson case. They would be right back where they were with an illegal seizure. This would assume that they think the lady would film her activity or text about it. Which they could get the text information from the cell phone provider by providing a warrant to them for it. So the only physical evidence would be on the phone is video, picture, or text messages.
She got released the next day because somebody more higher up got involved, learned about the interaction and the illegal seizure and got her released immediately.
Hell, it may have even been the forensic investigator assigned to check the phone who would have inquired about the chain of custody on the phone and then realized it was improperly seized by the officers the previous day. And yes, the forensic investigator would enquire about the chain of custody because they would be the ones giving testimony in a court of law.
But I'd also argue that the police department has now compromised their investigation. Even is this young lady poured gasoline on the floor, stuck the match, tossed it into the gas, and burned her own residence down, but because they mishandled this investigation so early a lawyer could argue that the police department was retaliating against their client who was suing them. And any and all evidence might get tossed. This is why you hear that charges have all been dropped when police are facing justifiable lawsuits in a case. Because the investigation is tainted by the police department with jurisdiction and unless some higher level department of public safety can create a case (feds) the person all but gets a free pass.

I don't disagree with your assessment but that is the thing about qualified immunity. Officers get a free pass even when they do wrong.
DAs refuse to follow through on the charges once an investigation gets compromised so nobody can bring a case before the Supreme Court to get qualified immunity revisited. Because ultimately that is what would happen. And there have been way too many of these cases for the Supreme Court not to be restrictions on QI.
The solution is to file lawsuits which the police department pay off before going to court. Or more correctly the insurance company with the police department pay off before it goes to court.
So yes, this will continue to happen. Until somebody gets crazy enough to actually file a case against somebody who was a victim of police abuse of power.

This is infuriating and the reason why I keep my phone encrypted. It breaks my heart to see a young woman experiencing how the police will lie, antagonize, assault, then charge you with a felony with a laugh and a smile.
I hate how they can charge you for what your body does naturally while adrenaline is pumping through you and you're trying to defend yourself. No way do I think she purposefully assaulted an officer while they wrestled her to the ground and stole her property from her. They need to change the law so that the officer actually shows injury.

Bravo for this young lady! She stood her ground, asked for explanations of their actions and was logical throughout. Her emotions started getting the better of her, which is very understandable.

Taking someone's phone is not a small inconvenience, that is a HUGE invasion of privacy and God knows the police won't have any urgency trying to give it back to you

It's also a really complicated issue. To gain access to the phone actually requires two warrants. One to seize the device in order to gain possession of it, but to actually access the DATA on the phone requires a second warrant.

@@Drikonn lol they actually unlawfully access it first, if they find anything they can use they get a warrant - they do it all the time - the warrant will always be given by the judge, he doesn't even look at the paperwork

This female cop is just disgusting. What academy did she go to? Even most citizens know that cops can't seize a phone with no warrant. I see a big lawsuit coming. Hmm, charges immediately dropped and phone promptly returned, all due to the fact it was all obviously illegal and her mother was a detective.

The young woman asked” Why are you smiling “! The woman officer is a narcissist they love smirking at people when they think they have the upper hand, just like a kid that gets the last bowl of their favorite cereal over their siblings….. they stay in that mentality forever and get a rise out of others disappointment and once they become adults they cause chaos and damage with anyone they come in contact with; the situations and stakes become much more life damaging towards others the older they get… plenty of practice

I couldn't. I was raised with morals and now I find myself....I hate to even say it But I can say I do not like LE .
I will do anything to not have to call 911 .
I'm upset because when I was a little kid this is what I wanted.
When playing "cops and robbers" I would sit out if I wasn't allowed to be the cop.
I even got made fun of sometimes because i didn't like being the bad guy ...the robber
