Dude I’m living this hell right now. Lol. Thank you for the video. At least I know I’m not alone and that I have to cut off that dang hose clamp. What a pain !!
Did that fix your leak
@@n54montana64 it did indeed. I bought hose clamp pliers to put the new one on but worth ever penny.
Did you have to remove water pump to install the new hose?
@@alexwaters7302 no, but I did buy special locking pliers to get the new hose clamp on.
thank you for your video!!!!! one of the only vids with this problem on RUclips, I’ll be fixing mines just like you did, liked subscribed and watching from October 2020
It seems the lions share of BMW problems seem to be their use of plastic of apparently low grade. Plastic water pumps, plastic thermostat housings, plastic valve covers, plastic oil filter housings and plastic timing chain guides that break etc.
My 135 is such a horrendous nightmare. Thanks for trying.
Plastic cracked on the outside of the pump housing. Mine did it with only 25k miles on the pump 😔 (08 335i)
thank you for the tid bit of info, was wondering what happened.
I just did the water pump, thermostat and all the hoses that get connected to the water pump and thermostat. I took off that hose easily with a pair of needle nose vise grips but to my disappointment the new hose had the metal piping already attached to that hose removal was unnecessary....
Piersburg makes an aluminum pump replacement..get the thermostat and connecting hose while you are in there. Rein makes a kit for the hose in this video with a new spring clamp. This job is indeed not fun. 😅 I shouldn't repeat what I have been saying about the engineering on this car. Seriously considering dropping the cradle and doing a bunch of "needed" maintenance. Thanks for the video. Made me feel less crazy.
How did you manage to get the hose back on the aluminum pipe ?
I changed the small coolant feeding hose from the metal water pump and it's still drips from the hose connection. How did you fix it.
i think this is my problem with my n54 right now i changed the thermostat to water pump hose and i have a really slight leak still
My 335i has the same leak pretty much. It looks like it's coming from the front turbo coolant line
Hey Nathan! Im having the same issue with the hose fitting to the pipe spraying mist at my turbo and am in the process of trying to replace the elbow but cant get the clamp off... is there a release on it anywhere or do have to cut it off like you did?
Thanks!
Does the mist look like smoke everytime you drove the car?
Hey Nathan, where's that background ticking coming from?
I would change the pump and the thermostat at the same time and be sure to use geniune stuff, that includes hoses and clamps. That waterpump looks to be in bad shape (That stain is either oil or wrong type of coolant). They used spring clamps for some sections and screw type clamps for a reason, its why cars like these getting worked from the small workshop would return to the dealer because corners were cut. With the fan and intercooler off, there is enough space to take the parts out. On a hoist its easier, on the floor, a nightmare. Some have done it without removing the intercooler. Easiest way is to unbolt the crossmember, engine mounts and support the engine from the top, plenty of room to do anything. On the floor, good luck getting the engine back into installation position. Spring clamp hose pliers (cable type). Flexible nut drivers 6-8mm (major time saver).
I'm trying to get into this platform, and cars period.. I'm still a noob. It seems like there's oil all over the place... maybe massive oil leaks and that has caused hoses to deteriorate rapidly?
That is one of the reasons, all coolant pipes also deteriate from the inside, slow process.
First step is to find the oil leak locations, you wash the entire engine to squeeky clean, use degreaser and a high pressure blaster. Run the engine and try to spot something. Check the high spots because gravity lets the oil drop down. A good torch is a must.
they used that clamp as an excuse to change the whole thing for more money yessirrr
I ended up buying the full metal waterpump by pierreburg
I literally have this problem right now, changed the hard alumium pipe, changed the rubber hose twice, changed the thermostat and waterpump, lower radiator hose, reservoir and cap and still leaking!
Im doing a complete coolant system overhaul. For this theres a Silicone replacement from URO Auto parts that im going to use.
now it gets interesting
Same exact problem with my car, same leak, same area... I said the same it's the pump! 🤔
too much resistance in the system..... plugged radiator from stop leak maybe?
ykmalachi fr
I have the same problem with my 535i. I’m having trouble finding the hose. Where did you get yours from?
I’m late but fcpeuro.com
Also if you don't wanna spend money or drop subframe you can cut clamp and cut the hose from waterpump to thermostat and use that (what I'm doing rn) and I already got a new wp to thermostat hose
Nov. 12 2019 watch this video!!!
I have the same exact leak on my 335i. It's coming from the same spot and also when the car warms up. I removed the water pump and can't find any cracks but I haven't cleaned it really well yet so there might be a small crack that I missed. So my question is did it up end up being the water pump or something else? I'm almost positive that I have the same exact problem
the pump was one leak, the hoses were the others
Thanks for the reply. I ended up locating a tiny crack in the plastic housing on the pump. Definitely going to double check all the houses now as well because I'd hate to take everything apart again.
I got the same issue on 2008 535i mpack. Did you repair it? Was it the pump cover?
Put some JB weld on it
What did you use to cut that piece of metal?
Im working on this today. I have used Dremel 4000 with metal 456 with EZ attachment. all other Dremel tools were too weak. be careful not to cut aluminum hose. one cut wont be enough. now I have a hard time replacing that hose , too little room. I have bought CHE 0494 at O'reilly (45 bucks lol) now I cant get it out...probably going to cut it, I think I need a softer hose. Im going to auto zone to try to match it. I also have ordered from ECS Tuning 12 buck silicone hose just in case (ES#3451041).
Way to go, plastic pump on a 40k+ car
Isn't the rule of thumb to replace a coolant hose when it is "kind of soft" ?
N54’s are a nightmare when it comes to the cooling hoses
What size diameter hose was it?
U figure it out bro ?
The 135 from hell.
This car literally has 20 different problems at 1 time
Did you ever find out what the issue was or what you did to fix the leak.
I literally have this problem right now, changed the hard alumium pipe, changed the rubber hose twice, changed the thermostat and waterpump, lower radiator hose, reservoir and cap and still leaking!
Did it work??? Did it leak around the clamp after u put that on??
I double clamped it and no issues , been almost a yea ago
Nathan's DIY Garage awesome thanks! ima give it a go with the rein rubber section part i found online. Bmw was trying to tell me i needed the whole tube aluminum part would be such a pain to do myself and everything n they wanted over $980 for install n everything.. screw that!
@@aaronsanchezz Did you install? How did you cut the old clamp ?
@@wacunap ya it worked fine, no leaks, but turns out just like in the video my real leak was coming from the pump and had to do that, but this hose needed to be changed anyway so ita ok. It cut it off using a dremel i believe, then the rubber part u can just use a razor blade or something.
2022 and by the looks of this vid my f10 may need a water pump fk me but thanks my leak looks exactly like this with coolant dripping from what looks like the electrical plug and the other side dripping with the car not being started for days
That fucking clamp was a nightmare. I went through 6 high quality Dremel cutting discs to get it off.
What is the hose above the water pump called?
Coolant Feed Pipe Hose
How many miles are on this car?
86k, it seems odd that everything is this bad of shape on this car with that low of milage
Nathan's DIY Garage yeah thats pretty low mileage. I used to think BMWs were pretty well built but I am beginning to wonder.
Did you ever pinpoint the cause of the leak? I'm having the same leak and can't see any leaks from above and suspect the new pump.
I literally have this problem right now, changed the hard alumium pipe, changed the rubber hose twice, changed the thermostat and waterpump, lower radiator hose, reservoir and cap and still leaking!
BMW makes plastic that breaks every 70,000 miles but won’t break when you want it to.
I am sorry I purchased a BMW too many problems. This car definitely not made built to last. Toyota or Honda is better.
race my 135i in your honda b
Andre he can’t because yours is broke down 😂
No matters what you buy they are all trouble, I have presently Chrysler ford f150🤬, and Honda.
Just keep fixing 😭😭😭
A chinese car might do better than bmw 335i. They are dispossable cars.
Name two cars from china
Yo broke ass can't afford it.
