When I did this all I did was unbolt and remove the water pump and thermostat, unbolt the ac compressor and pull it forward some (just bend the hard lines a little) and you can get access. Took 20 minutes to remove. This was on a non turbo (N52) 328i.

I remember your video when you were chasing that leak and I commented in that video that it probably that dam pipe , I did that job on my e60 but luckily 5 series had a bit more room , It was a nightmare and until you do this job yourself it’s hard to understand how frustrating this job is . I wanted to cry at some point ... lol

Your honesty and thoroughness is why I keep resorting back to you for n52 tutorials. Keep it up! I also take way longer on my jobs because like you I’m Cautious and don’t want to mess anything up. I enjoy the step by step in your videos

Combined with the brake line change, you are starting to make old BMWs look difficult to work on!! Keep it up, of it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger. ;)

Good on you for sticking with it I had a few times like that when I was mechanic. It would be interesting to get a quote from BMW for replacing that hose and see how much money you saved.

N52 528xi here. Just finished a complete refresh of the cooling system except for that coolant pipe and the thermostat and pump as they appear to both still be working just fine.
The refresh did NOT stop the leak and I now have a small drip that seems to be coming down into the water pump from above and watching this video makes me think it's the same thing you dealt with here.
I'm going to check all my hose clamps first but wow watching this video...

That was one tough 'muda fuckn ball breakn b'strd'🤬🤬 by the looks of it you've probably made a lot of guys with coolant leaks terrified to even look and see if they have the same issue! But at least if they do they can learn from this excellent tutorial 👌

You can buy special drill bits for drilling out hardened bolts. They cost a bit more but make the job quicker and easier. Cobalt I think. And there are other ones which are even better than cobalt. Can’t remember now.

Min 9:45, trust me I know the feeling, took me 2 months to take the ball joint out from my e39 hub, for front (steering arm)and rear control arms. No junk yard parts available, and used are with cut arms, which means have to do same procedure on.
Don't mention it, tried fire, old trucker ball joint extractors, bought two joint extractors, ball joint sway jack, left in vice grip over two weeks with wd40, Teflon, silicone oils, hammering, wax, yet nothing worked.
