- Those really nice people at Hornby asked if I wouldn't mind reviewing the brand new 'Western Express' train set. HOW COULD I TURN THAT DOWN?! :)
The GWR Class 4900 Ketley Hall, Hornby's eLink control system, three Pullman coaches and TTS sound all in one box!

Reminds me of when I opened up my Western Pullman set back on Christmas 2005, which of course you also have ☺️
I liked that set too.
I can't believe you're back! I missed you A LOT!
glad to see you back ic82
It's great to see IC82 back on the Tube and such a beautiful set, hope you enjoyed your time off Will.
Well it is lovely to see that you are back. We've all missed you quite a lot.
Good to see you back in action Will. Looks like a very good train set that will give many years of enjoyment.
Cylinder Cocks are "taps" that are found on the bottom of the cylinders. Essentially, when a locomotive stops, steam in the pipe feeding the cylinders will condense into water. Cylinder cocks allow this water to drain out. If water was allowed to stay in the cylinder, when the piston travels to the end, the water would be "compressed" (which is nowhere nears as ""compressible" as steam) and create v. high pressure that can blown the ends of the cylinders. The cylinder cocks is what creates the characteristic cloud of steam from the front of the loco when starting off. You will notice this more in early morning, as once the cylinders have warmed up through use, the water is far less likely to condense. If a loco has been standing for more than a few minutes, you will normally open the cylinder cocks for a couple of wheel rotations to make sure the cylinders are water free.
Very happy to see a new IC82 video. Welcome back Will!
All behind the times as I have only just found your site. Wow what a great review for an amazing train set!.

Welcome back Will :)
Love the new intro!
Yay hopefully more of the model railway village series
+Thomas Blue We are also waiting for the continuation of the ATP project Will. We do want to see what Craig does to bring her up to today's standards. The Train Tech sound device I installed to a Hornby GWR box van is working great, and the battery is still running now after three months. I use her with all my steam shunter locos, the Hornby GWR Holden tank pocket rocket, the Hornby GWR Prairie Tank, and the Bachmann GWR Pannier tank.
Welcome back, Will. Missed your regular video updates. I can understand why you are so enthusiastic about this train set. It looks, sounds and appears to run well. Hopefully, Hornby will resolve the issues with the software, although I suspect that some of the problems are Windows related. Looking forward to the next instalment.
yay!!! I have been checking the channel Daly.
Welcome back.
Who else was thinking Riviera Line in the 50's from Train Simulator 2016 for half of the video. The King, Castle, Hall, are just some of the locos on the route in the game.
yay your back woo
if you had that loco could you control the loco just with a normal DCC controler (or a DC controler if you take the DCC chip out of the tender)
Great vid
I love that GWR Hall I wish I had one
E-Link works perfectly with Win10, no more of this "com3" / bad drivers business. Glad you are back and enjoyed your holiday Will.
+Dave Murphy Thanks, good to know, I'm considering getting E-Link and my pc is win10.
He is back
The eLink does not work with windows8. But might work with 10 would you be able to try this?
Firstly welcome back,I was hoping you would be back on RUclips this side of Christmas.Secondly series 7 wow were have the series gone (posted by her son)
horray!!! ic82 is back!!!!🙆
on the laptop, right click and use compatabilyty mode for windows 7 to run anything on win10
Loco 10/10 coaches 9/10
this came out on by birthday :)
im getting the tornado traib set aswell
Another amazing review, I believe cylinder cocks are valves that use high pressure steam to discharge condensed water from the cylinders as that can be quite dangerous if the water pools up when the engine is under way as the pressure buildup is akin to that of a miniature boiler explosion.
Can I use a train that is e link on a DCC or a DC controler does it have to be e link to drive the train
My favourite in fact the only Western engine I properly like is the 57xx pannier tank
+InterCity82 You now have a Hall, A King & a Castle classes. You must be a very proud man.
yes he's back with the gwr my favorite :)
+83c PRODUCTIONS Mine too, God's Wonderful Railway...
I also like some of the cities.
i have the Western Express TTS Sound Hornby Train Set to i thinck that is good i luv it
ive sent two locos to you and im not 100% sure if they have arrived at crewe works yet can you give me info. thanks
I would like to know how many locomotives can you have going on a big train set?
dose it work on hornby tts digital sound locmotives
welcome back my son
getting one for Xmas😃
Isn't this the first ever Hornby TTS Sound train set? Wow!
Unfortunately, the Windows software required to run Hornby's software is getting a bit old and tired. Especially when Microsoft is pushing very hard their latest system software, Windows 10... Hornby needs to get on top of this, ASAP... It is getting harder and harder to find Windows 7 system software, well, computers that run it... Everyone has updated by now to Windows 10...
Is ELink essential for TTS sound, or is TTS backwards compatible with the Select?
And also, are regular digital locos forward-compatible with ELink?
TTS is compatible with Select, though I think you only get 10 sounds due to the limitations (apparently you can send the select to Hornby and they'll update it so all are available though don't quote me).
All digital locomotives that have a DCC chip should be compatible with the eLink - the eLink is just another DCC controller like a Hornby Elite, but you control through a computer/laptop etc.
Personally I think it'd be better value buying a separate eLink, proper TTS sound loco like the Duke of Gloucester and 3 full price Pullman coaches than buying this set for £250+
Regarding all these TTS locos, can you program the rate of chuffs per revolution. All the RUclips demos I've seen show the locos moving along with too few chuffs! Thanks
Hi,
Thanks for your excellent video. I am considering purchasing the train set in your video
as it seems to have everything, especially for the beginner. I think 00 gauge is a good
choice for me quality of detail with available budget. Can you confirm it works with
Windows 7?
Sound quality seems very impressive - with all the software and what have you, could you have multiple locos playing sounds at the same time?
What's the difference between the hall castle and King classes
please could you do a revivew of your n gauge hst?
awesome set :-)
Excellent video as usual....watched it using Twitter. For some reason my new you tube app on my iPad is listing your new video 3/4 the thru a list of your videos. The older version of the app always showed you new videos as the first listing????
Matt you should open a competition where every month you pick a top 3 layouts from your fans via DMs on social media
Can I use these locos with normal a DCC controller?
yay wills back😁
Not quite sure why they didn't do this with a castle class locomotive surely they would be more likely to pull pullman coaches?
Hurray for series 7! Would you consider doing a workshop video showing the installation of a smoke generator for a steam locomotive? That would be awesome!
Does a standard dc controller work with this
great vid love the intro
is the schedule back to normal now ???
Great set, video and laptops. Totally irrelevant point but I always wondered how the subtitles are done and assumed it was automatically by voice recognition as on both TV and here there are often a few laughs to be had like "parrot rack" for "power track" and "Ealing" for "E-link".
I have missed your videos
about time where have you been
one more thing can you make review of class 43 HST vrigin East coast TTS and DCC fitted : )
Nice
5:28 The first legit train set I got was the Emerald Night for my birthday. LEGO, no track or Power Functions included.
I recommend you do a review on the Hornby THE MAJESTIC set
Will you be attending Warley national model railway exabition?
koool
Love your videos
Course am always looking for used trains + parts
Imagine putting a GoPro on the loco...
one of those pinhole cameras at the coal opening in the tender to see the inside of the cab
I've done it once and it was cool
that is cool
