  • WOW! Thank you to ALL OF YOU for watching IC82 and helping the channel hit 40,000 subscribers! As part of a series of special videos to mark the event, Hornby asked if I would like to do a review of their latest 40th Anniversary HST train pack. So I said yes! What's more, they sent a FULL RAKE of coaches too!

    As a big 125 fan I remember the first time she ran 1976 in passenger service , I think it was 1972 it was tested as an experimental train and yes it took off after some tweaking .And its an icon of British Railway .the last class 43 which left old oak comman depot was appropriately called old oak comman .may she keep making histoty.

  • @MacowiecPL

    One small thing.... if these units represent the HST upon introduction, the carriages should also carry "InterCity 125" or "Restaurant-Buffet 125" branding as well!

    You know Will, its amazing. I first found your channel 2 days after your review of the original class 43. I never even thought we'd still be here today. Thank you so much for your hours of entertainment and for getting me more into British trains.

    Without a doubt the most iconic train ever in the history of high speed trains lasting 40 amazing years. Nothing else comes close. Well done to Hornby on this release, this 7+2 rake looks amazing and runs so well.
    Looking forward to Christmas now... Wink Wink lol
    I too am a massive fan of the HST owning 3 sets already, 2 swallow livery and 1 virgin livery, I really need to get them back on the rails again after watching this review.
    WELL DONE IC82 on passing 40k subs, keep up the superb work =D

    Hi, Will.
    Glad to hear your kidney op went okay, wishing you a speedy recovery.
    You now have your Bachmann class 37 in Railfreight Coal livery to look forward to!
    Nice video of the Intercity 125, by the way.
    All the best mate, Adam :-)

    You have earned yourself a subscriber! I actually like how you left in the emotional part of it as well. I am still in possession of my father's HST set from the 1970s, which is almost as good as this one!
    Thank you for the time and effort put in to make this amazing content.
    One other thing: you said that your favourite diesel was the Class 58; I know that not enough were built to have this number, but I am your 58,447th subscriber!
    Thank you again,

    Ahh brings back great memories of my first train set, though my Hornby IC125 didn't have anywhere near as much detail as this new one. Must have been end of 70s / start of 80s when I got it for Christmas! It's still (boxed) in my Mum's loft! Living on the South Coast, it's very rare to see a real IC125, I finally got to go on one last year on a trip to Edinburgh, a mere 35 years after having the model!

    Hi dude,, like yourself, this Kenneth Grange marvel has fixated me since spring 1976 when I would skip school in south London to go to Willesden to photograph the oncoming train right at Scrubs lane trackside!!! with my 110 Hanimex !!! This was before it entered full time service! I still have the photo!! Today I received the new set (#132) as you have ably demonstrated and can't wait to run it on my new 85 ft elevated garden railway. I will eventually install sound in both drivers with separate startup and thunderous sound reproduction!!!!
    Well done chum,, and look forward to many more well made videos!!

    I'm a regular viewer of your videos (goes without saying that I like them), and a big fan of the HST too! I have the 1980s Hornby BR Blue version (the one with ringfield motors in both cars), but I run it with five of the "shortie" MkIIIs (with just 7 windows). I did manage to obtain a buffet car pretty quickly. (probably shouldn't be saying that).
    I thoroughly enjoyed this review: Any video from you is enjoyable to me :).

    Hi IC82, I’ve been a huge fan for about 5 years !! The 125 is definitely the best British train ever!! I found it funny when u said buffet cars for intercity were rare because when I went to trident trains I found about 5 in the ‘10 pound box’ as I call it and I bought 3 all at once!!!!!!! Btw I also live in Crewe!!!

    This set is something to add to the engines I need on my layout. So far, I have a class 08, 25, 31, 37 and 47, all in BR corporate blue. This would finish the layout I'm hoping to make. Great video too. I wonder if Hornby are going to make a GWR HST. That would be great to see, especially in a 40 years special on October 4th. Cheers, West Coast Rail.

    Cracking video Will 👍🏼, you asked about the Gangway ends on the Mlk3's, the black half represents the Ferodo pads fitted to one half of the gangway plate, the Ferodo material helps reduce wear when the gangways come into contact, if you would like to know more please do ask, I maintain similar coaching stock for a living, so I could talk about it all day long lol

But - oh, JOY! - it did list a vendor 40 miles down the road here in Norway who had both the Anniversary set AND a set of coaches! At no mark-up from UK the original UK prices either (AFAIK)!

    I've got 43010 and 43011 in the same livery but they're passed on from my Uncle. They were in the first Hornby HST set, produced in 1977. That makes them 39 years old and nearly going on 40. Sadly, the motor is pretty much dead and the train will need to be modified to be towed round the layout or it'll be used for decoration/making a scene

    • @beenusirimanne

      sorry im a bit late, but duuuuude... buy a new motor, and fix it! it isn't that hard and

    • @acynder1
      @acynder1 5 лет назад

      Why no use this oportunity to fit it whit a burshles motor?, I can do it, is not hard at all, the only hard thing is get a 3d-printed pieces to fit the DC motor mouts and you can order these pieces to a 3d-print store. The rest is a Bost converter for the ESC controler and a arduino to convert the analog signal of the Intercity's board to a pwm signal for the ESC-controler

      The XPT is more along the lines of the APT.

      Cameron Morgan I thought the XPT is just a modified HST?

    • @cameronmorgan7886
      @cameronmorgan7886 8 лет назад

      +Ethan's Train Vlogs I believe the HST couldn't handle our gradients. The XPT has a tilting mechanism as well I believe?

    • @leonkernan
      @leonkernan 8 лет назад

      XPT is an Australianised HST. Nothing like an APT, no tilit.
      A couple of XPT locos were used with the Swedish tilt test train that was brought out in the 90's but the locos themselves never changed.

    Hello InterCity82,
    That is one amazing review of the new Hornby HST Train Pack and Coaches, I love it.
    I notice 2 Hornby Steam Locos, the Caledonian Railway Single No.123 in the siding and the LMS Patriot in Maroon livery still in the box.
    Are you going to do any videos of them in future?
    Again, well done for the HST Train Pack Review, I give you 10/10 & 5 stars. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

      I'm gonna do the Patriot this weekend I think. I'm dying to open it. Or I may do one that's been sent in.

    Even though I am not from the UK (I'm from Australia) I am very excited about the HSTs because here in Australia, we have the XPTs (Expresss Passenger Train) which are just an australian version of the british HSTs

    • @InterCity82

    24.55 passengers inside & lights. I'd like to see it run on a detailed track with a camera on the inside to view the scenery as a passenger would. Detailed interiors of dining & sleeper cars are good to view I think.

    Given that these were meant to be a stop gap for the APT and only meant to last about 5-10 years. Not only that but they are still the most comfortable train on network rail!

    I got a similar train from TRIX Marklin the DCC Sound German Gasturbine BR602 (VT11.5 red and creme TEE) with two motor units at each end and five coaches in between all made of diecast metal en closely electronically coupled. Unlike this Hornby HST both motor units are motorized which are controlled by one decoder simultaneously.
    Seven diecast units also weigh a little bit. And also cost a little bit .......... You also could compare it with the Midland Pullman.
    If that train only would be the HST I would have been so delighted !!
