- Here I take a good look at this Hornby DC train set from around 2004, featuring a beautiful and very smooth running Castle class locomotive in BR green.and called 'Cadbury Castle'. The set also features 4 standard Pullman coaches, plenty of track, a controller and some accessories.

Is it just me will or are model railways ridiculously satisfieing
kadin jacques they are ..

kadin jacques they are
You’re not the only one
kadin jacques ikt
I may only take exception to a GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 Tender Engine, but yours is a Great Western Engine and that's what made me smile. I'm a GWR fan, plus the name of the engine, Cadbury Castle, made me think of Cadbury's Dairy Milk Chocolate Bar. She nearly had my mouth watering at the thought, believe me. If she were a chocolate bar, I'd eat her then and there. I'm also a choc-aholic because I can't resist anything chocolaty. I mockingly blame you for making me think of Cadbury's Chocolate.
I love your layout it reminds me of a scene out of Chicago hope -[which ran in opposition to ER]- where a gifted surgeon has a brake down so to feel better he buys 20+ different Lionel train sets and joins them all together and does what you've done on the floor of his office in walks a colleague who starts nervously humouring the surgeon, but the colleague starts having so much fun that together they play trains its very cool.
This brings back memories when I was young
Looks really nice
Nothing cuter than a handsome train enthusiast. ☺️
Tom Smillie they move so beautifully
DCC fitted means the chip is fitted at the factory, DCC ready means there is a socket inside ready and waiting for a chip but it is DC until you actually fit one.
your in boxing makes me want to get a another train set. that means your videos are really good keep up the great videos yo do a good job. I watched you when I was little and loved the videos
I got this as my first train set when I was about 9 or 10 from my parents as a birthday gift. I still use it and love it, along with my model of Duck and a GWR 0-4-0. I Love the reviews and I'm still looking for what I can get to join my (small) collection of trains. Keep up the great work! :D
@dexter5190 - I'm in no rush to, but who knows what Santa might bring lol
@Hornby22ify I'll check them out, thanks for the comment!
She is one gorgeous ex-GWR beauty of a loco. One of the reasons why i love the castle classes :)
I have that set and its been literally years since I last run it because i'm in to modern image, plus the fact mine isnt DCC. That vid has inspired me to reinstate it and for the first time in probably 3 to 4 years have a steam loco running on my layout!!!!! Great video, mate=D
MY LORD THATS LOUD!
very beautiful locomotive.
Probably the best engine the GWR ever made! Even this older tooled Hornby one still is a good one. We've just ordered The Royal Dutchy train set, and are really looking forward to getting it and reviewing it :)
@masoaviator There are lots of different diesels in the background in this video. You need to be more specific.
Fantastic video! :)
I spotted your pannier at 17:18
I reckon I deserve a cookie for that hehe. Lovely set. I hope Hornby release those castles & the old kings in the Railroad range soon
Really Work of Art....
I have the Hornby Cornish Pullman set which which was out last year, only 2 Pullman coaches in that one but the Engine is near identical but different name Llantillio. Runs great, it's DCC ready - love the detail on it and a steel at 89 pound for the set which you can still find today.
The motor just sounds powerfu!!
great video my nunny castle is still one of my favourite locos
great train probably one of your best
that's a good castle class
i like the quite witty things you say some times :)
I wish Hornby still did sets like these, although they would be very VERY expensive
Looks nice. I have a Stobart 66 tomorrow :)
I can remember before I got this set a few years back I thought I had a brilliant express service on my layout. All that changed as soon as I set the coaches up!
my first set was the blue city Pullman
okay I have a few questions, one why isn't Hornby more popular in America? Seriously one look and I fell in love! Plus the prices are great for what you get. still does it have a smoke feature? I love alil smoke out of my engines. Thanks.
John Smith I agree, there are allot of American locomotives and diesels, but I think Hornby is now trying to make it in the USA... Not sure how it’s going.
I would love to have one of these too.
Great review Will! I have to say, Castles are my favourite kettles, despite me being an Anti-kettle person.
Hah he we are 7 years later , Still an amazing review.
@modeltrainmad12 - the class 9F 'Evening Star'
I have 103 locos - cuts have to be made somewhere lol
@masoaviator that's a Class 58 in Railfreight Coal Sector livery
I would like a hornby castle they are one of my favourite mainline engines
+GWR23 Studios I had a couple, but they were poor runners and I don't like the GWR, so I smashed them up with a hammer!
heelfan1234 10/10 would use low quality bait again
Railwaytube Yeah, I've smashed up loads of toys and model railway stuff with hammers and golf clubs.
@Xantec - curves come in different degrees of 'turn' if you like. 1st are the sharpest/tightest and 4th are the most gentle.
I have them coaches from the Hornby Tornado Starter set and also i bought at the same time the western messenger and i lost 1 power track :)
I wish I have hornby
I had a premium pullman with lighting lamps. It was £30 on its own but well worth it. I don't own it anymore. I love pullman coaches and 'blood and custard' BR coaches.
I always paint my detail in my locomotive cabs. I don't paint it all one color. I paint it like it would look in a real locomotive cab. one color for pipes and another color for throttle levers and another color for injector levers and so on and so on i'm sure whoever reads this is getting my point. I also cut out the fake coal loads and I put real coal in but it's difficult to get the coal to stay in the tender without falling through the huge hole the cut out coal leaves.
If the detail was painted Will would have noticed there's actually rather a lot in this loco.
dylan palombo i
ZeldaTheSwordsman very true.
dylan palombo I can't do that but then again I have not a try before you should make a video on your trains showing how detailed you made them
meme spressions look on my channel. I have some videos. The videos are high def but the lighting where my layout is placed is the problem. Just watch some of my videos and you will see some of my work. My bachmann hog warts express locomotive is my best work in my opinion. Some of my other jobs were rushed for whatever reason. All it takes is a steady hand and a very fine paintbrush
not the quietised motors are they in the castle class? i had one that is now unusable but i could always hear the motor
can you please check around for a cross track and tell me if it
exists
it is i saw one in my hornby shop
@Hancockified very well spotted! haha
Have you got a hornby tornado express pullman train set?? Do you like the train set and is it worth the money! I'm getting one soon
I have this one, great set! Got mine back in christmas 2005. Strange because mine doesen`t have that small seperate box for the transformer, or a peice of the polystyrene missing. Mine just came with it packed in the polystyrene. :)
hehe thanks for the comment! You can maybe still find this set on places like eBay?
@37116comet - oh ace! :) Yeah go for it. She's a beautiful locomotive - and definitely deserves a good run every now and then.
One day i can watch this and not laugh at "love the feel of this knob"
@musicmangavlaar - I don't know what motor it s sadly. It has been DCC chipped but a long time ago now.
very nice set there.
i must ask what do you recomend as the running in speed for dcc fitted locos on the hornby select?
@ThomastheE2engine - I run-in locos in DC mode (before I chip them). For trains/locos that have a chip fitted, I recommend a similar sort of speed - basically have the controller between 11 and 1.
will a bachmann dcc controller work with the track that came with that engine?
I love train
do you have a review on the Tornado Pullman set?
That GWR castle class "Cadbury Castle" is at the Severn Valley Railway :)
I would recommend giving it a good service, yes, definitely. It will do it no harm whatsoever.
What you put the value of an unused yorkshire pulman steam loco and three coaches at? All original box
I gotta get me one of those.
hi
how do the coaches compare length-wise to the expensive versions???
thanks
love :)
the train
@cyberkidmfb all will be revealed in time! :)
He's referring to NEM 362 coupler pockets - allow you to remove the couplers supplied with the model and substitute whatever couplers you prefer, as long as they are designed to plug into the coupler pockets.
The good thing about you collecting Hornby sets is the extra track a new engine and some rolling stock
SkylordTV and spare controllers
Who still watching during quarantine
@stormtrooper212 - not quite - but I had to make sure I looked at it properly.
my i ask how much
i have bought a pullman brake coach but i would like to extend my track to so gettin extra coaches + track + a grand loco would b gr8
@itfcsam - ahh yes I have seen - and very smart it is!
thanks for the comment!
Thank you :)
yes, Hornby and Bachmann are NMRA(national model railroad association) compliant, so all Hornby and Bachmann models work together
Do like twisting the your knob backwards and forwards. Does it feel really good?
heelfan1234 yes it is almost like boy and train are one
heelfan1234 yes it is almost like boy and train are one
SteamLocoScrapper xd
hello, can i ask you what is dcc fitted and dcc ready what the diffrent?
Can you add couplings to the front of the engine?
@deano91209 - it still exists in some model shops.
The couplers are not NEM. They can be replaced with another type but it will have to be manually done.
is that the dcc fitted sound pannier tank at 17:18
красивый паровоз
what is a nem coupling ???
@hegz1484 - I have no idea I'm afraid, as I haven't bought any of the premium ones, nor do I plan to.
@Frserthegreenengine - thank you :)
@Class66Rocks - you only need the advanced uploader if you have a file size larger than 2.0Gb. This particular vid was 1.3Gb I think so it was ok.
how do you exactly clean tue wheels
it is!
I agree the old style of controller is brilliant but I can see why they changed it to match the digital ones.
Get the outback hauler ! its awesome!
@LegoArtsProduction - I think it came out around 2004.
Nice! Are those coaches also available with replaceable couplers? If so, I might consider getting some to put in excursion service on my railroad
Una maravilla ! Dónde puedo comprar uno igual ?
does the door open at the front of the loco?
I'm sorry, Will, where's this crew you've put in the cab? I can't really see them.
'Olton Hall' the loco used for the Hogwarts Express was a Hall Class, but for the purpose of the movie named 'Hogwarts Castle', so people jokingly call it the Hall that wants to be a Castle. Hornby however, made their Hogwarts Express model using a Castle class engine, further adding to the confusion and humour.
@08crouchr - thanks :)
@BhanuHabbo - that all sounds good! :)
the premier coaches that i have from the premier boxed set of the orient express have sprung buffers
That is a very nice local.where do you get the railor from
@liverkewell07 - all in good time lol
@matthewpeter Can i ask why BR Blue? None of the castles ever ran in BR Blue. The Only GWR engines to run in blue were the kings.
Which of the nine Bachmann eras would you say this set fits into best?
Cadbury castle is in South Cadbury in Somerset, King Arthur was supposed to have lived there, yes it is just a hill now.
