  • Spoiler Alert: The Plugs/Coils and Liqui-Moly solved the EPC issue only temporarily...
The car came back the next week for a deeper dive under the hood - look for Video #2 in the next week or so.
My Sister-in-law's 2018 VW Tiguan SEL with the 2.0L TSI 'Petrol' or gas engine with 105,000 miles was throwing an EPC (Electronic Power Control) dash light under even moderate acceleration. Occasionally it would be accompanied by a "Check Engine Light" (CEL). This would disappear if you pulled over, shut the engine off and then restarted. Unfortunately there are literally a dozen things that can cause the light to come on.
Driving with my code reader in the car it presented a couple of times, and I was able to read some codes with the engine still running. P0201 Injector: Cyl 1(N30): Circuit Malfunction, and P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected. The car also needed an Oil Service and a new Air filter. We swapped cars over the weekend and I got to work. My tack was to do the stuff I could get to first. Obviously the Oil change and Air filter as well as adding some Liqui-Moly Fuel System treatment to the tank. There appear to be quite a few variants of the 2018 Tiguan so finding plugs and coils was a bit of a challenge. On to the video!

[09:40} A bit of a rant about modern engines, The Gubment, CAFE standards and Engine life... Manufacturers are forced to meet a certain MPG across their offering. Part of what they do to meet that is drop the viscosity of the oil. Thinner oil requires less energy for the parts to turn, but provides less protection. They don't care - (or the Gubment forces them not to care) all they are trying to do is get you out of the warranty period with the engine still in tact. The same goes for these crazy long Oil Change intervals. If you spec 15,000 mile oil changes you are putting less used oil into 'the environment'. The Gubment is happy - your engine is NOT! Pretty much everything I own is above 100K miles and I am kind of fanatical about changing every 5K miles. Don't take my word for it - watch Dave at the link above!

Fuel injector harness is common for causing this issue

Jeff - Thanks for watching and commenting! I replaced the harness and the error moved to Cylinder 2?!?!? Look for a second and possibly a 3rd Video. I have new injectors headed this way - going to swap injectors and trade the damn thing in! It actually went from the EPC Light to a misfire in cylinder 2. Thanks again for the input. - JDW

@@FatAmericansGuide how many miles does it have? There is a recall for the fuel injector harness that is covered up until 120k miles. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues:(

@@jeffgroves4533 105k-ish. I saw that and put the VIN into something I ran across and it said the VIN was not part of the recall?!?!? Do you have a link to something that will tell me if I can get my Sis-in-law some cash back?

@@FatAmericansGuide for sure! Even if the vehicle is not listed to have a recall by the vin, they still have this “warranty” to everyone with a 2018-2019 Tiguan. Look up “2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Fuel injector harness recall warranty”.
