I have had rotator cuff problems for almost two years. My physical therapist had me do those exact three WRONG exercises and it did nothing for me. I have been losing sleep and just decided to look for more advice. After doing those exercises one night, I was able to sleep on both of my sides again. You are awesome!

No one appreciates a parrot in the room but, “me too”! I did two of the 3 correct ones )I can’t get on knees and wrists - arthritis 😒) as prescribed yesterday and I’m getting relief. Gotta keep up the good work! ❤️

@@epmanualphysicaltherapy Thank you for caring enough to respond back. Im a middle school office supervisor and hurt my elbow by fixing 80 bulletin boards a couple of years ago. My shoulder and elbow were never the same after that week. The constant use of my shoulder stapling is the root cause however my shoulder pain has progressed to the point where I can barely move my arm. I woke up around 2am with my ring and pinky numb. It’s so painful. Is this bad?? I went to the workmans comp Dr on Monday and she gave me a lotion and salonpas. Dr said I didn’t need an x ray or MRI. Said only need PT and acupuncture but that was told they’d contact me. It’s been 3 agonizing days and no response from them. What do you recommend I do? I feel I wasn’t diagnosed correctly by just a visual of my arm.
Last night at 2am I was literally doing the exercises you recommended. -Luz

Out of the blues this week I started with acute pain in my left shoulder nothing worked, no ice , pain medicine, massage or muscle stimulation. It came without warning or reason , I suppose its old age as it was so painful that I couldn’t sleep, cook or get dressed without constant pain. I watched lots of videos and I try your routine with excellent results . In one day I got some improvement and in two day the pain was gone. I will continue with the 3 exercises and I am going to follow you for rehabilitation. Thanks you are great and I appreciate your videos. 5:21 February 10 2024.

Thank you SO much, and thanking Lilly as well for helping. I'm SO glad to know the bad ones, as I've been encouraged to do them. I began, and in most situations I did not do them at home. I'm going to start doing those "good" exercises tonight, and into tomorrow and ongoing until my MRI schedule comes up. I definitely do not want to have surgery done. Overall mine does not appear to be serious, as I started with dry needling and could tell I was improving. My initial thought was it may be inflammation. Anyway, thanks again!

I’m 64 years old, have always been very active, and I’ve been dealing with rotator cuff issues for several years. I had surgery on my left shoulder a year ago. He is exactly right about the exercises physical therapists have you do I am trying to heal my right shoulder without surgery because it was extremely hard on the muscles of my upper back, not being able to move and stretch like I normally do. I highly recommend watching all of his videos and following the exercises he recommends. I can tell in my body those are exactly the muscles that need to be strengthened. Thank you so much for providing this material!

I wish this video came out 9 years ago when I tore my rotator cuff.. that injury completely changed my life cause it was undiagnosed, I wasn't told to get an mri or anything, and because I was only 19 years old I just listened to the Dr when he said just go home and it will heal. And it did. But it stopped me from doing ant upper body movements for over 5 years. Only recently have I been able to workout without pain.

Of course my other shoulder has an impingement and tear and feels like is coming out of place now. :(

Thanks for the information. I began doing the cat position (the position on your hands and knees) a while ago. It was amazing the difference it made! In the beginning I felt my shoulders were out of balance and my bad shoulder was weaker and shorter than the good side. Now both shoulders are strong and I no longer feel one side is shorter than the other. Still working on other exercises though.
I no longer have constant pain (mainly due to the cat position) but am working now on getting mobility back.

You’re probably the best physio out there.. your exercises are amazing, but ironically, I discovered the second one by myself when trying to work through some stretches that gave me relief. So I can definitely say your exercises seem to make a lot of sense. I have cervical herniation but I also have some soreness around my right deltoids.. I’m not sure if it’s tendonitis or tear or what, but it’s usually pain when I’m doing heavy gym only. But your exercises are starting to prove to be very helpful and my pain is almost going away. Thank you so much!

Is that correct? Thanks so much for showing the "to do" exercises. I have many folks come in with shoulder issues (pre surgery) and your professional experience and advice are much appreciated. :)

I have pain on my left shoulder started in March of 2023, still having pain and trouble with sleeping on my left shoulder and reaching behind my back. I had a MRI done in April 27, 2023. The MRI shows two minor tears; a low-grade interstitial tearing of the supraspinatus tendon (mild subscapularis tendinopathy) and moderately attenuated and partially torn intra-articular biceps tendon. Also have small cystic focus adjacent to the lesser tuberosity and abutting the biceps and subscapularis tendon measuring 0.8 x 0.6 cm likely a small ganglion cyst. I started PT in May of 2023 for 3 months the pain seemed to stay the same or a little worst. My PT had me do the 3 worse exercise you described in your video, plus other exercises. Medicare stop paying for the PT, so I continue the exercise at home and stop playing golf, my shoulder pain seems to get worse. So I decide to stop the exercise and went saw a second orthopedic doctor for a second opinion. He suggest a cortisone shot and anti inflammatory drug for 10 days (I am on my 7th day of taking the drug). It did help a bit with the pain, but still have mild pain when sleeping on my shoulder and pain when reaching behind my back. I am trying to avoid surgery at all cost. So I will start the exercises you suggest in this video to see if will help. Any other suggest you can give me, would be appreciated. I glad I found this video.

Hello, I have confirmed (MRI’s & X-ray’s) of two complete rotator cuff tear on both my shoulders. Two doctors advised me for a total replacement which I both refuse and to defer later on. Lately I have been having pain on my shoulders and neck. I tried the trigger point procedure to my neck and seems it helped. Now I need help relieving pains on my shoulders. Should I do the impingement exercises or the rotator cuff exercises. I’m not sure which one to use or maybe use both and hoping for your advice. Thank you for all your videos and helpful advice.

Hi Lineman, we are so sorry to hear about the excruciating pain that you experienced when working with your physiotherapist! The pain is challenging to get through and hope you feel some relief trying out techniques. We have a playlist for rotator cuff tear help in case you are interested. You can access it here:
      "Rotator Cuff Tear Help"
      ruclips.net/p/PLJVIPiFvv1mbQ_-1YFfEePnrcxfwwf9_k
Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not.
If things start to feel better we do have a Rotator Cuff Tear Recovery program that can be used to progress your recovery but try the playlist first and see how you feel.
Thank you for joining us all the way from Ireland 🇮🇪🧡
We wish you all the best in your road to recovery! We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

Thank you Dr David, you really know what you are talking about. Now I’m working on my left knee minor pain with swinging and foot rotation exercises. I expect the pain to be gone soon. You are great. Please make a video about hanging exercises. I have minor pain in my right shoulder and I saw a video about hanging exercises to ease the pain. It wasn’t done by you. I was diagnosed with SLAP tear bout 5 years ago. I have been feeling a click and an abnormal way my bicep and arm has been feeling for like 20 years people thought I was crazy when I told them I got X-ray nothing showed then finally got mri. Did physical therapy never helped because the physical therapist would just give me exercises and not really explain what I’m trying to do as build the muscle back. But the first 3 exercises a lot of pt recommend those but never helps I’ll try yours. I just want my feeling back in my right side It doesn’t hurt I’m lefty and the slap tear is on my right I used to be a pitcher when I was kid and I would play throw with my right and then I would feel the pain but never thought nothing. I was gonna do surgery but got scared cause everybody that did surgery regretted it.

I've had shoulder pain forever. And when I started lifting again, it started to hurt again (bench press). So I had seen someone doing the first one you showed us here, at the gym. I though I could do that as a warm up to avoid pain. Oh boy, that was soooo paiful. I can totally attest to it being the wrong thing to do.

I've hurt my shoulder 3 weeks ago. An orthopedic doctor is leaning towards rotator cuff tear. I've started doing the first exercise a few days ago and it seems to be helping (at first, the range of motion was quite limited but now it's getting better). I followed the instructions and always stopped at the angle when it begun to hurt, though. Could you say when it hurt you (during or after this exercise, when lifting?)

Do you have any videos on thoracic outlet syndrome? I've made the mistake of doing the doorway stretches and I realise now how disastrous it is. It literally drives the ribs into the collarbone. My rotator cuff is weak but the usual exercises like you mention here always just ramped up the grinding and damage.
I have a winging shoulder plus subluxation of the joint and it makes it really difficult. I'm trying to feel how to drive my shoulder blade forwards into the ribs via the serratus, to stop the winging, while keeping the joint itself back to stop it popping out.
Almost everything I see simplifies the shoulder mechanism and I've been alternating between going forwards and backwards too simplistically, without feeling the difference between the roles of each part. Do you have any video for a winging shoulder with a joint that also pops out of place when going forwards? I keep changing between different things without quite finding the thing that works consistently for all issues. I think I'm getting closer by pulling only the shoulder joint back while pushing the shoulder blade forwards and around.

What's frustrating is that here we have a lot/most recommending the "3 bad" ones... I had rotator cuff tear and did physio therapy and they were among the top 10 ones suggested.. And here it's recommended against them. How's possible these shoudler experts giving the wrong exercises all along? Random youtube videos is one thing, but established physio keep recommending them is another... I've been having shoulder pain from partial tear over the years that keeps reappearing.. I'm scheduled for another MRI due to recent months pain. Perhaps another factor is age, mid 60s here, where years long damage has caused enough damage... thanks for your videos!

When rounding back like a cat, we should activate the serratus ant., but often do not actually get this muscle engaged fully. The result seems to be, we caretake for the motion and action it caretake, but without engaging the muscle sufficiently.
Focus driving the movement with the elbow, which is kept close to body and arm ext.rotated in motion, seems to work for me, as well as let the arm raise to top of ribcage to gain freedom for free movement and then be stabilized by muscle vs. seeking support by contact on the ribcage.
Previously I had trouble in shoulder in chestexercises, but these days no more at all.
When serratus ant. make a contrast in moving rotator cuff, it allows rotator cuff to be steered much more correctly and as evolved to and all is kept better aligned; BUT they have to work in coordination. To learn this is mindfullness in action.
When we pull with the rotator cuff it is very beneficial to pull against the action of the serratus ant. as a contrast. It really aligns all great.
