I only recently got into cologne and learned about Imaginary Authors scents from Dave at Fragrance Bros. It's such a cool element to add to dressing well, and these tips are definitely appreciated.
As an avid member of Fragcom. I've owned over 300 different fragrances in my time. I still come back to my favorite 3 rotation. 1. Creed Aventus 2. Creed Silver Mountain Water 3. Parfums De Marly Herod They never fail.
1) there is no rule stating how many sprays you should go with a cologne. it all depends on the performance of the fragrance + the user's skin. 1 or 2 sprays are generally used for very strong, heavy fragrances. more no. of sprays are acceptable for regular intensity colognes. but i guess it also comes down to the user and his/her preferences. for me, if others cannot smell me, i am wasting half my money. 2) in part 2 of the video, you displayed a lot of rubbing on the skin. now you are saying it is wrong. yes, it is wrong, but then now the part 2 is somewhat misleading. 3) the general shelf life is 3 years because they have to put an expiry date. fragrances can last decades if stored properly - cool and dark conditions! 4) nice jacket and shoes!! :D
"3) ...fragrances can last decades if stored properly - cool and dark conditions!" I was going to say the same thing. Where on Earth did he get this false 3 year expiration date nonsense. I have fragrances that are decades old, and they smell just as gorgeous as when they were new. Keeping bottles out of sunlight is the best advice for keeping fragrances long term. The next is to avoid extreme temps- don't store in the fridge. No sun and room temp storage will guarantee that any frag will last a lifetime...and more.
I don't know... I've always kind of gone for the understatement. Where if someone you're only talking to can tell what specific scent it is you're wearing, it's too much. Then again, I also favored the perspective that if they only get a mere hint of the cologne, they may be incentivized to lean in a little closer to see if the great scent they just caught was actually coming from me. Which actually does happen. A lot, actually.
@@zulutangoxray oils degrade. I would imagine 3 years is the lowest common denominator number, where even if someone is storing it improperly it probably is still ok by then.
Already said, but to reiterate, as long as you store the fragrances properly, they will last fairly long, some people will even say they get better over time.
Very good video but from my experience cologne does NOT have an expiration date in fact. You must keep your fragrances in a cool place away from heat sources, light and direct sunlight and excessive humidity and you'll enjoy them for decades. Yes, it may change a little especially if the scent is based on citrus notes but it won't be spoilled. Winter time scents tend to become even stronger and better through time. So I suggest to buy small bottles especially for your summer scent collection which are more prone to changes through time. I have over 100 bottles, niche and designer and until now, only one cologne was spoilled because I kept it in my car.. you know, high temperatures in summer.. so it changed its color and its smell to the worse. I have some bottles from 2000 and smell perfect..
Hey brother, as a viewer from London I am thank full for you’re videos. They are very informative and helpful. May you please do a video on pocket watches sir?
With all my respect but Point 2 is arguable. If you like a fragrance and you can wear it with confidence your significant other will acccept you as who you are if you can pull it out. This reminds me of the "Tuscan Leather" topic and it is so subjective. To some is gruosome while others will love it, but it is important the one who wears it to like it and to have the confidence.
Well most people don't appreciate niche fragrances much, the average person likes designer scents, as they're mass appealing. And the nicest/hyped niche fragrances are designer inspired. Niche is just that, for a specific demographic that are really into fragrances. They will only really impress other people who are into fragrances. But if you're into fragrances, and you feel like wearing them with confidence, go for it. Just know, you're not really impressing much people. Niche, for the most part aren't pleasant, and are an acquired taste, for the "refined" nose. Try making people eat kimchi or something else that's really good, but not for everyone. Niche is the same.
Great great review but I think using Xerjoff as a bottle example in point number 9 was a mistake just because zerjoff is one of the greatest houses ever the look of the bottle and the smell and everything about it, of course in my opinion. like
Hi there. I have a question. I wear cologne mostly for compliments. To smell good for others. I spray a lot. Sides of neck and front of neck by adams apple. Is it really neccesary to spray front of neck for projection or will on sides and back of neck be enough? How many sprays of a light fragrance do you recommend?
Ben Reevers I think fragrances free will have a chemical kind of smell, or smell like the ingredients, and unscented will have ingredients that try and neutralize that chemical scent to minimize an overall smell it might give off.
I have over 100 bottles and nothing changed. Some bottles are from 2000 and smell beautifully. Cologne does not have an expiration date. The most important is the place where you keep them and the conditions. They need a cool place away from day light, heat sources, direct sunlight, excessive humidity. Summer fragrances tend to change more than winter fragrances.. this is due to their light notes such as citruses, synthetic sea notes etc..
Mat Smith you're going to the gym to sweat and smell bad, why try and layer that with cologne. You'll smell worse that you think. You're suppose to shower after a workout too, a waste of fragrance. And if you're concerned about how you smell to others in the gym, you're not really into working out at that point. You shouldn't stink before going to the gym but you also should be trying to impress anyone while there; you're there to workout and get out as quickly as possible.
Mat Smith courtesy is not being intrusive with you're scent to others, if you're at a gym it's going to smell like sweat and be hot, you're cologne won't mix with that, and end up smelling bad. Sure you might think you're not, but you will be if you're wearing a fragrance. I get it might make you feel confident, but know it's not pleasant to others, they won't really like it or you for doing it. You can do what you want, but wearing a fragrance to a gym is looked down upon, and really says you're not about working out, more casual person who may or may not just go occasionally, and doesn't get results.
Mat Smith I go to the gym 5 days a week, it's better for someone to put on deodorant in the morning and go to the gym than spray cologne. Now if you're going to work after the gym then you can get ready in the locker room and put some cologne on after your shower.
And ask does make some pretty great fragrances that I have confused for top name colognes and I owned a lot of cologne so I would know how it top name cologne smells
You started wrong. 1 should be check your allergy reaction. If you can't breathe, seek medical help. and be aware others you will be around during the day could be sensitive to your choice of air poison.
When I was in school the vice-principal wore so much cologne that you could smell her from the other side of the street (no exaggeration). Wearing so much cologne is definitely unpleasant to the people around you.
Why are the people in the video rubbing the cologne on their wrist you don't rub cologne as it mixes up the notes and messes up the chemistry of the cologne I don't know if I can trust anything on the video after that
No offense but your outfit is more towards a 70 year old grandpa ...it really is ....spray on your old spice and you will definitely attract the blue rinse granny

Wow! Never thought about #3! I have applied more cologne once I stopped smelling it.

Another great video... My personal favourite is Eau Sauvage Extreme (1981) very unique and is definitely a gentlemans choice

I've just moved mine into my bathroom cabinet and now I wonder whether I should put them back in the bedroom!
Jeremy from Jeremy fragrance usually sprays from 3-7 times depending on the occasion and place
Agreed on the axe body spray. Yet.......the body spray actually is great for car freshener.
As always the best tips. Thanks
Don't spray loads? Reminds me of a phrase from the Grant Budapest hotel, which was, "He was the most liberally perfumed person I ever met".

I think the secret is to spray less with those fragrances.. this is what I do and is quite acceptable from everyone.

Is the oatmeal coat vintage? It looks very nice.
It is an older Harris Tweed

I wouldn’t go for his look lol , baggy trousers and colour clashing 😂

Very nice derby shoes.. Where are they from? @Gentleman's Gazette
200k, hell yeah!
This one is good
Do you have a video on how to clean a dress shirt?
interessting, that this one has so little views
Great video, but I do have a question. What's the difference between fragrance-free lotion (1:17) and unscented body lotion (1:23)?
Ben Reevers I think fragrances free will have a chemical kind of smell, or smell like the ingredients, and unscented will have ingredients that try and neutralize that chemical scent to minimize an overall smell it might give off.
right now its Bowling Greene time...Geoffry Beene, really.
I laughed way too much when he said "don't put it in your private parts"
Oblivion Wolf but you need the plums to smell good!
First heard Eddie Murphy say that! Peace!
Forget cologne, I'm gonna get some Pink brand perfume from Victoria's Secret
Yea, I don't wear much cologne. I think for me one or two is good. I find it hard and difficult for me to choose the right scent.
Interesting. I didn't know that a cologne changes after 3 years. I thought that the chemicals inside are non reactive with each other
yes i confirme :(
Yanis Benchara did the smell change or disappear?
Did the smell last for not as long as before?
What colone did you have?

Also, don't wear cologne before you are going to the gym.
Mat Smith not wearing cologne doesn't make someone smell like shit

Have you picked your colon?
Tfw you are teenage boy so you can use cheap fragrance from drugstore. Feels good man
I can't believe that Axe thing is a myth.
Hi
I want to smell like Watermelon, lemon and roses
Met several women who enjoy Axe.
Just to paraphrase Tom Ford, there’s no such thing as too much cologne, if it smells nice nobody will mind
Lies, even if it is a nice smell it can be so overpowering it gives some people headaches despite a lack of perfume allergies.
A HA I’ve never had a single complaint

I am wondering how could a person have the idea of "wearing cologne on private parts"???

Creed Aventus -> done
Jeremy fragrances does 3 minimum

Don't call it cologne if it isn't eau de cologne.
Eau de cologne refers to concentration. Cologne is just another word for fragrance in general
How often should one shave their arse?
where are you from? Your accent is extremely odd to me

Lost all credibility rubbing the fragrance onto your skin.
