My mom died of cancer last year. This song was one she would play in car when we were growing up in the 80s. Our family has a very strong bond and her love and guidance runs in the family forever. Love you, mom! ❤
Words can't begin to tell how much i love this song. I feel very lucky to have been a teenager in the 80s, which undoubtedly have the greatest music ever.
Mark King is someone i looked up to as a musician, before i even knew his name. I was a very young lad when Level 42 were in their heyday, but i loved the basslines in their songs. Picked up the instrument in my late teens, played in metal/punk/hard rock bands. Will throw in some King inspired runs and riffs to new material, get asked "how did you think of that?" Its a shame some band mates have dismissed things because i told them about Level 42....quite sad really. Wait til they hear about Alison Moyet being my favourite vocalist of all time. Its not all Hetfield and Dickinson in this house, you know.....😂
In 1980 I was only 5 years old. I'm lucky that I grew up in the 80's because the 80's had THE BEST MUSIC EVER ! Level 42 was one of my favorite groups. My favorite ... "Something about you". I miss living in the 80's. Those were the best years of my life. I wish I could have a machine to go back in time and go back in the 80's. Who would come with me ? 😊😊😊😊
Born in 1975 I too was only 5 however this was a time where music was real. Where it managed to get under your skin and bury itself deep within your heart and sole with meaning and always brings me back to these nostalgic memories. Reserve me a ticket on that time machine..
I have been working on the time machine for many years, I keep having to redesign it, started as a 2 seater for me and the missus, now I have 10s of people who want to come along, if you get yours finished first, count me in for 2 seats 😊👍🔥❤️🎶🎵💯💥👌😀
This song makes me sad in a bittersweet way, it makes me think of how much I see myself in my parents and I wonder if I'll ever be able to break free from the negative things they've passed down to me.
We don't need to be that young again, the world not being so shit as it is now and better like back then would be enough. It isn't nostalgia, things have got really bad in the past 25 years and generally just continue to get worse through uncontrolled greed, stupidity and incompetence.
Fun fact: On the CD of 'The Very Best Of Level 42', it turned out that on the booklet it says that Mark King didn’t like the song so much, until he drove home and was imagining the drummer (Phil Gould) singing the lead singer’s part. This must mean that he got interested in the song while driving during the making of this song.
I'm grateful to have been an 80s kid, songs like this, deacon blue, the clash, the jam etc remind me of being in my dad's car with this blasting on the radio or one of my dad's many cassettes playing, when life was good, not today with this grime rubbish and people walking down the streets ' streaming ' on their phones. I feel blessed to be from the generation I'm from.
Reminds me of sitting in the back of car with my bro goin on holiday, listening 🎶 to this amongst other 70's & 80's legends, kate bush, the beatles, paul simon, Paul Young, Queen to name a few 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
Its crazy because I knew of Level 42 songs (most notably covers of Something About You as well as the original), but I didn't start checking out their albums and singles until around 2010 when I got my first decent smartphone and I could save songs on my SD card. Also, I heard about 3-4 songs of theirs on an Old Navy playlist that would be on repeat when I worked there and I had to find out who that voice was and what band that was absolutely killing the arrangements lol.
I'm the only one in my family who has blue eyes like my father. There's not many of us left and my eyesight is rubbish. But so many things get passed down through generations. I'm an alcoholic like my father was and his father was and presumably back into the mists of time. A fantastic song but so hard.
I remember this song from '87 I'm not 100% sure what part of 1987 it was released 🤔 But a cracking song from level 42 Level 42 were an absolute outstanding band throughout the 1980s 80s music forever Simply beautiful 😍 🤩 Completely flawless 😍 ✨️

This band helped me through high school.
What a killer song, production and lyrics! Yet another gem from an amazing band!
They helped me through graduate school...
Missing the 80’s and 90’s bands ❤ when the songs had a meaning and the music, quality
70s had some GR8 tracks too......😎
Words can't begin to tell how much i love this song. I feel very lucky to have been a teenager in the 80s, which undoubtedly have the greatest music ever.
I hated pop music as a teenager in the 80's. But THIS is one of the few songs I loved. Thanks for keeping it alive.x
I loved the 80s, the world the music, everything about it. This is a sterling example of why.
Had partial parts of this song stuck in my head for the past few days. Wouldn't have guessed it was level 42.
Você está bem conservada
Same here ❤

You and me both dude. This guy got me into playing bass. Everyone names Flea, but Mark King is way better. To me at least.

It’s 2024 and this song has been stuck in my mind day and night for the last 1 week!
Still listening july 2024❤🎉
Not to mention one of the best bass players ever
So blessed to see Level 42 live at the Meadowlands NJ with Modonna. Great show!
I am doing a matathon of Level 42 videos, this band is everything!
This song makes me sad in a bittersweet way, it makes me think of how much I see myself in my parents and I wonder if I'll ever be able to break free from the negative things they've passed down to me.
Difficult one. There must have been some happy moments at that time period of your life.
Don’t ever think your on your own there are many of us have demons from what we had to grow up with. Two words KEEP SMILING 😊
This is our family anthem! Grew up with this blaring out our hifi from my mum's cassette. Love you mum! X
This entire album is a gem, a thorough accomplishment. Smooth, mature, and worth listening to at any time.
Still sounds fresh.
In this video the drummer, Phil Gould gets my undivided attention.
Oh my god I was born in 1984 the 80s had to be something
Its been 2 years or so that i saw this video. It's simple and pleasing.
Takes me back to Berlin 84 86, oh to be that young again

R.I.P To Jaydee who passed on 2nd Jan 2024..
Level 42, one of my best groups❤
Hadn’t heard this song for 12,000 years. Alan Carr’s sitcom brought me here.
Alan Carr? Well, glad you heard the song 🎵 again mate.
Word has it that this Pink JayDee Bass is the one that can't be traced. It's M.I.A.
Recuerdos de juventud...años 80s... Forever... saludos desde Colombia 😎🇨🇴👍
definetly 80s were the best fucking decade of all, i was born in the 90s at least i could hear some of this music when i was a child
This song was the last from Level 42 that I ever listened to I saw them on this tour.
The brothers Gould called it quits so I called it a day on them.

King of slap 😃
Quante volte l'ho sentita alla radio ai suoi tempi!
Literally just remembered this song exists at 4.30AM out of the blue. The randomest of ear worms 😅
Tempo, dynamics, precision, punctuation.....gives me creeps how well played this song is.
Great 80"s music, great band who made many great songs. 😊
Mark King is a helluva bass player,so fkn underrated
My fav number is 42, thanks to Douglas Adams and these guys.
Vivi tudo isso. Que orgulho que saudades dos 80's. As músicas tocam pra sempre
Estos clasicos si son para siempre
Level 42
Our dad would send us to our room
He'd be the voice of doom
He said that we would thank him later
All day he was solid as a rock
But by eight o'clock
We'd be crumbling
One night
My brother Joe and me
Climbed down the family tree
That grew outside our bedroom window
We ran though we knew it couldn't last
Running from the past
From things that we were born to be
Looking back it's so bizarre
It runs in the family
All the things we are
On the back seat of the car
With Joseph and Emily
We only see so far
And we all have our daddy's eyes
Looking back it's so bizarre
Dad rang the officer in charge
A man so large
He barely fit his circumstances
He said two kids out on the street
Were picked up on the beat
And in the station
So there's me
With Emily and Joe
Daddy driving home
All heading in the same direction
He knew no matter what the breaks
We'd make the same mistakes
Couldn't take his eyes of Joe and me
Looking back it's so bizarre
It runs in the family
All the things we are
On the backseat of the car
With Joseph and Emily
We only see so far
And we all have our daddy's eyes
Looking back it's so bizarre
It runs in the family
All the things we are
Looking back it's so bizarre
Like a dream within a dream
We're all somewhere in between
Like a drummer plays his drum
Like a father like a son
And your gonna have to face the music
Hey hey
We keep it running in the family
Hey hey
We keep it coming in the family
Hey hey
We keep it running in the family
Hey hey
We keep it coming in the family
Looking back it's so bizarre
It runs in the family
All the things we are
On the backseat of the car
With Joseph and Emily
We only see so far
'Cause we all have our daddy's eyes
Take me back into your arms
It's no longer a mystery
There's no cause for alarm
Could have never come this far
With no sense of history
It always leaves a scar
And we all have our daddy's eyes
Looking back it's so bizarre
Running in the family
Running in the family
And we all have our daddy's eyes
Looking back it's so bizarre hey
tranks
