In the Netherlands we are not allowed to import some of the labels via Amazon (UK) . very annoying , strange and inconvenient. Missed out on many releases because of this.
It was revealed in the MPAA vs. Napster that their wet dream and final end game goal is pay per view at home and you can't do that with physical media (VHS, DVD, etc.) and you can't do that with file sharing / digital distribution because of "techonological limitations". So they are always working towards that pay per view at home.
Haven't particularly noticed any issues in the UK, often more problems with getting books from the US. I often end up looking on ebay more than Amazon (or popping in an actual shop still selling blurays)
too bad because Amazon produced some pretty good exclusive localized french boxset for aliens + predator for example (before the bad movies) I'm not really concerned anymore as in my small non eu country amazon completely stopped selling for 1-2 years because of tax conflicts even now ordering from the us (where most of my blurays came) is near impossible so I gave up if they don't want my money I'll spend it elsewhere
I hit panic stations when I saw it on my wishlist too. A couple have come back for 10 bux more andI just bought because I didn't want to miss out again. Thanks for the other buying tips.
Yeah I’m still in a bit of a panic for the films I really want but a lot have come back which is good, despite for a higher price. I think it’ll still fluctuate for a while and hopefully it’ll settle eventually and we can go back to some type of normal we had before
It must be an Australian thing… as per usual. I’ve noticed a few UK imports that are ‘temporarily out of stock’ on Amazon too so it could just be a replenishing aspect or specifically to remove some items from the Australian market
I’ll use Dead End DVD as a backup from Amazon, if they go out of stock and doesn’t come back. I’ve compared Amazon prices to Dead End and with free shipping its Amazon with the better price. I just bought a bunch of Action dvds from 88 Films that went on sale
I imported Arsenic and Old Lace (Criterion Collection) Blu Ray from Amazon US in October last year P.S it sucks that Barnes and Nobel in the US have these 50% off sales and do not ship to Australia
So it wasn’t just me… damn. I’ve been ordering a bunch of physical movies online over the past year because I was worried this would eventually happen.
Probably doesn't help that it seems more companies are stopping physical production in Australia. I know Disney has announced that they're ceasing physical media production
Yeah Disney has pulled out completely for physical media. It’ll be a tough day if and when more companies announce the same thing. Hopefully that won’t happen though
I do often rent a movie on Amazon, and watch stuff on my Prime account. However stuff I don't feel the need to own. So a bit like the days of the video store. Just on my ass doing it :)
JB still has films but a different selection. There’s still less at Jb than there was 5 years ago and some big brands are finding new distributors so they aren’t releasing anything new for a month or so but so far JB isn’t removing all movies and tv shows
I’m worried because there’s the chance that they could go out of stock permanently, or at least that it’ll become even more difficult to import to Australia. The brands in particular that were mostly out of stock (even though they have come in and out of stock frequently since that) are US brands like Criterion, Scream/Shout, Kino, Paramount etc., which are hard to get in Australia for a good price. I’m basically forced to either go Amazon for a decent price, eBay with a price hike or resellers with a different price hike.
It could be but I’ve been seeing a lot of items coming and going quickly with a higher price upon return. Maybe this is just because people are actually buying them now given they all vanished for a day or so
I’ve been frequenting Amazon lately and have noticed titles go out of stock but come back in stock a couple/a few days later

@MartinusSatanicus are there any other options?

You have to shop around sometimes. I bought something that was $10 cheaper on ebay than it was on Amazon
Yeah I always shop around just in case

Can’t say I’ve noticed this kind of thing in the UK on Amazon

@@CollectorCreations be interesting to see how this one plays out in next few weeks or so
I have imported a lot of Blu rays from Rarewaves lately because it was cheaper than Ebay and Amazon US here in Australia
I’ll use Dead End DVD as a backup from Amazon, if they go out of stock and doesn’t come back. I’ve compared Amazon prices to Dead End and with free shipping its Amazon with the better price. I just bought a bunch of Action dvds from 88 Films that went on sale

I always make a list of Blu Ray's for the JB B1G1F sale in may each year

If titles are disapearing from Amazon, what happened to JB Hifi for example
JB still has films but a different selection. There’s still less at Jb than there was 5 years ago and some big brands are finding new distributors so they aren’t releasing anything new for a month or so but so far JB isn’t removing all movies and tv shows
Why are you worried since most of them came back in stock?

No. They said they have no plans to stop selling physical
In general or to Australia specifically?
They would be boycotted so no i do not think so
I think it’s a bug in the system, a lot of items have returned again.
It could be but I’ve been seeing a lot of items coming and going quickly with a higher price upon return. Maybe this is just because people are actually buying them now given they all vanished for a day or so
no
Thanks Jeff
Dang... thought it was just me. We're getting screwed her in Australia a little when it comes to physical media movies
