Nice hauls speaking of subscribers I legit walked past you at the traffic lights just down from PlayMusic about 4:45pm the other day on the 11th (Friday) i had two black bags lol, if you saw me doing those looks where if i knew you from somewhere that was me. Myself i spent a fair bit there I had to come over while I was on holiday before I came back home to Tassie.

People are cheap. Buying new releases on dvd will kill physical media. The next generation won't be buying a 480p disc when streaming is superior. We need to support the best quality.

Once you go down the rabbit hole of movie serials, you're there for good. You have to find the Batman and Batman and Robin movie serials from the 40s. Plus there's a Captain America one, a Captain Marvel one and Superman one, which totally kicks arse. Mad stuff.

I might be way off here but i have always thought a big part of it is the vast library DVD has. I'm currently going through a full on Robert Carlyle phase and all recent purchases have been his old British drama tv movies/4 part tv shows etc. Obviously Looking After Jo Jo which was on BBC in 1998 isn't getting a blu ray release but there are still brand new copies of the DVDs on amazon. So since its new off amazon themselves then it counts as a DVD sale But because you're mostly going to hear about new releases, people dont take into account how many completely random brand new dvd purchases are being made. I might be the only person to have bought that dvd this year (i hope not as was amazing) but think of it as thousands of (old) brand new dvds are only selling a few copies each, that adds up Not sure if what i have said has made any sense, but makes sense in my head lol Personally all new releases i buy on blu ray but i can completely understand why people dont want to bother leaving dvd when so much of their dvd collection first of all might never get released on blu ray/4k and secondly would cost a fortune to upgrade everything even if it was

You didn't mention the 4k disc has audio problems. It's Dolby Digital not DTS HD master audio. It's lossy and not lossless. The Blu-ray is correct and has HD audio

I get only dvd because i have no interest in getting bluray just because of better picture quality and special features that i never will watching. Even if the dvd i have has spècial features i don't watch them. I just want to see a movie for a couple of hours and don't want to pay over 2o dollars for it or buy a new bluray player. Oh and i hate the short blue cases that they use.

If your TV and player are really as good as you think they are, DVDs still look and sound great.

The answer I think can be looked at in two different ways. VHS died quickly because it was worse in every way. Not just the picture quality. You can fit two DVD cases in the space that a single VHS takes up (paper sleeve). The VHS tapes that came in plastic cases are even larger. Talk about weight as well. I just weighted The Empire Strikes Back VHS: 9.1oz DVD: 3.3oz. Essentially, you could ship twice is much product in each container, and each unit had about 1/3rd the freight cost. A forum post from 2002 cited that VHS tapes cost about $1.50 to produce and $1.00 for DVD. So I’d say DVD was better for consumers and more profitable, which is why VHS died rather quickly. However DVD are still being sold probably because they still make money, and globally, the DVD market may be big.

You should do what I did, return your copy of Underworld collection. They are re-releasing it in steel book form, but more importantly, Dolby Vision will be added to it (like what they did with the Resident Evil series). Which will help, as for such a dark film, it didn't look as good as it should on my OLED, the image needed some work; Wasn't atrocious, but noticeable issues. Sadly, i really only like the first 2 films, never saw the prequal, 4th was OK, and 5th was terrible. with the 1st one being the stand-out best.

DVD is way behind in audio, muted colours, heavy compression and edge enhancement. Unless you're watching on a 20 year old crt, you're just being cheap.

Easy: PRICE. People can barely afford groceries let alone movies. Blu-rays tend to be $5 more expensive than DVDs and that is a lot to many people and families so they have to resort to quality that is "good enough"

I’m a bit of a visual quality snob was an early adopter of blu ray and 4k blu ray I haven’t watched a movie on DVD in like 15 years. The only time I buy or watch DVD now is it’s an older TV series that does not have a blu ray release. When I buy physical media I always start at the top and move down until I find what I want. 4K blu ray first if no Blu Ray if no DVD

i like that you are yourself... and sensible enough to know when enough is enough and take a step back. as someone who is bi-polar, these manic, ecstatic highs and crushing lows come and go when you least expect it but exhausting yourself during the high is a common, eventual result. I appreciate that you're brave enough to be honest about what you do and don't like, and your own limitations...which we all have, and need to accept. Feeling pushed to continuously keep up and maintain a certain level of content is something it's fair to want to separate yourself from, let your mind clear, and return to at your leisure. dare i suggest, give yourself a social-media "detox" ..unless of course your work is financially dependent on it for keeping a certain level of lifestyle. once i no longer had facebook (or whatever the fuck it's called this minute) my mental health improved significantly. Everyone grieves differently and how you're doing it is fine and how you're not doing it is something you recognize and you're working on. thanks for sharing your vulnerability with us. i can see this was a tough filming for you, but you have a level of emotional maturity and ability to discuss these things...hearing it help others, whether you mean it to or not. best wishes to you and relax and enjoy your "You" time!

For what it’s worth, the algorithm recommended your channel and it’s exactly what I like to watch so I just subbed. But you have to take care of yourself too. It’s easy to get burned on things. I get buyer’s remorse when I buy a movie I remember liking so much back in the 80’s or 90’s but when I watch it again, it feels so dated that I just can’t possibly enjoy it the same way I did before. That seems to happen a lot with criterion releases of older movies. Recently they released the Albert Brooks film Mother which I remember absolutely loving when it came out. When I popped it in to rewatch last month I was hit with the fact that a good 70% of the humor didn’t work and some jokes aged very poorly. Overall I tried to enjoy it still for the sake of nostalgia and the remaining 30% of the stuff that still works but dang I feel like I wasted money on that purchase because I don’t think I’ll be watching it again any time soon.

I'm with you on panic attacks. 100% shitty to experience and we can't always predict the bastards. Do what you need to do to take care. It sounds like you're on the right path to dealing with it. Health before content, always. Horror comedies: Dead Heat, the Dr Phibes movies and Werewolves Within.

hey man, I feel ya with the expenses. I started to write down everything I buy, to see how much I was spending and could see a pattern, which I used to set a budget that I try to stick to (so far so good). It made me more aware of pursuing better prices and helped me to keep track of annual sales, to use the budget smarter, you know. Additionally, I try to shift my focus from buying all the time, by... surprise surprise, enjoying the collection! I look at my shelf often, take movies out, look at them, read the booklets, watch the bonus features, watch reviews about it, make my own reviews, keep track in an app, etc etc etc. In a way, I feel like I get more from the releases, if they just sit on the shelf and I focus on what's next. It is a beautiful looking limited edition box but the price was to high for me. I just went with the US 4K release which I think the theatrical cut is in a 4K disc. Thanks for sharing.

I hate bootlegs but if there is no physical release at all and in this age of you don't own what you pay for I will support all the bootlegs so long as they work just to stick it to corporate greed alone just saying 🤷

I regret buying 2 copies of the same movie cause sometimes I buy the single disc at wal-mart or Amazon but if and when I find a 3 or 4 movie boxset or. 6 I’ll just give the single copie to a friend

Mine arrived today as well and from what I've seen so far, it was well worth the price. Agree with you on the art cards - having the international posters instead of stills was a pleasant surprise. Only drawback is the poor labeling. Even on the disc menu, the unrated theatrical cut just has the same 'Ultimate Cut' subtitle as the Ultimate Cut itself, which is not helpful.
