  • The General Motors Fort Wayne facility, also known as Fort Wayne Assembly, is located in Roanoke, Indiana, USA. The factory produces full-size pickup trucks. General Motors is making a new round of upgrades to its Fort Wayne Assembly plant to further increase production of the all-new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups - especially crew cab models. “We are building Chevrolet and GMC crew cab pickups at record volume and mix levels to meet customer demand and the $24 million investment will allow us to build even more,” said Mary Barra, GM chairman and CEO. “The team here at Fort Wayne has done an outstanding job helping us satisfy customers throughout this launch. Our product ramp-up was very smooth and the quality has been exceptional. Crew cab sales have been very strong, and we are expanding customer choice with new models, more cab choices and innovative new powertrains.”

I really don't think the music was bad at all, but original sound would be cool. To hear the machinery.

Very cool process. HOWEVER. I've been working for a GM dealer for 18 years and it seems paint quality of theirs is not what it used to be. The clearcoat scratches incredibly easily. Bug splatters eat into it almost immediately. I don't know what's changed about it in recent years but it's not what it used to be. But on the flip side, it's made me quite skilled at paint correction.
And also GM, whoever it concerns if anyone at all, two of every three brand new vehicles I see arrive at our dealer for the past, say five years, needs spots polished. I know exactly where small defects in the paint have been attempted to be polished out. Said vehicles have between one and ten full areas where maybe specks of dirt got in the clear and sanded out, but I'm polishing them out before they hit the lot because they're such an eyesore.

I don’t know why they don’t do a flex additive on the whole truck. Yea it does make it a bitch to sand and polish out, but the sucker would be 99% rock chip resistant.

dude you are so right, 110%. i own a 2016 trax that is peeling spot areas all over the dam car. i know its that waterborn dutch boy house paint. sandwiched between 2 solvent base coats of primer and clear. better yet there are thousands of boracay blue metallic trax that have the same identical problem. and chevy won't touch them. there is already a lawsuit in fla, for their trucks and other suv,s. but not for any other vehicles. well good luck with that new chevy dutch boy house paint if you happen to get screwed like i did.

The GM still have the rust issues. 2014 and 2018 still have the same rust issues.

My supposedly new car has different paint depth on one side. Beginning to think it had been in an accident!

If GM paints anything white, then that paint will chip off as we've all seen.

Diamond Tri-Coat , a peeling catastrofe. Paint bubbles then flakes off.

i have been painting automotive paint for 30 yrs. i own a 2016 trax painted with boracay blue metallic. built in south korea. its only 4yrs old and the dam paint is peeling off the hood, rear lift hatch, right and left front roof supports on the inside next to the windshield. its a crock of schit. and i'm finding more places every time i inspect it. even worse they are only patches. not entire panels. so i have to run around the car doing sorry azz spot repairs. even better the primer is solvent, the base coat in waterborn house paint . and the clear is solvent. its not rocket science knowing what caused it to peel. for one nothing was ever sanded. second the primer is shiny and has gloss. which is piss poor at best you can't sandwich water base house paint between two solvent base layers. the proof is there are thousands more of the same color peeling from approx 2015 - 2020. none peel earlier than 3 -4 yrs. so chevy enjoys screwing us over selling defective vehicles. when the paint at least should last 12 - 16 yrs without any peeling. well it ain't that way now. now i have to repaint the whole dam car with the proper primer, base and clear coat. its pathetic that they have to use automation crap robots and i have to mop up their screw up manually by hand. i could go on and on and burn up this entire site with bs. all i know is chevy can take their junk and shove it. never will i buy another. and i'll enjoy smearing chevy's reputation at my leisure. those cars are being built in a place worse than mexico. in the worse atmospheric conditions on the planet. by a bunch of jungle monkeys that sabotaged the paint just to stab back at the outside world. and even better chevy knows it and continues to hide it halfway around the planet. all i can say is i still owe 8 grand on a junk heap that needs to be crushed. and already spent $3500 on turbo and engine problems. like the solid turbo exhaust pipe that cracks due to their crap engine mounts that allow the engine to twist and break it. all i say is AMFC.

Your paint sucks probably some of the worst on the market I don't even tailgate and I have Rock chips like a mother. Car has 7000 miles on it unacceptable. And I have to keep a spray bottle in the trunk because like the guy below said any bug that gets on your paint will leave a forever Mark in the clear.

Cutting corners degrades quality; and it shows. Just think of all the jobs that would be available if GM got rid of those robots, overpaid CEO's and brought back real skilled labor.

If you're willing to pay a few thousand more per car, I'm sure they'll be willing to bring back hand spraying and considerably slow down the line speed.

The new Chevy trucks are just plain ugly, most new vehicles are. I can't seen anything today becoming a collectable either. You'll see these in a few years in the car crushing videos on here.
