  • We get a look at how the new 2019 GMC Sierra and 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickups are being built at the Ft. Wayne Assembly Plant joined by GM's Executive Chief Engineer Tim Herrick. Things have changed since the last generation of GM trucks and these new Sierra and Silverado pickups are now being built a little differently.

      You should have kept it. The 1999-2006 trucks will go down as some of the best ever made. I’m at 300,000 on my ‘05 5.3 with a water pump being the only thing I’ve ever replaced. While million mile ones exist I’ve seen tons with over 400,000 and 500,000 miles. It’s fair to say that they don’t make them like they used to. I wouldn’t touch a newer one. I’m going to keep mine going for as long as I can. I don’t live in a rust prone area

    do you know if the workers get to change up on the parts they assemble on the truck every so often, or do they continue to do the same thing week after week until the next model year comes out? And did you get to walk out the door with those cool glasses you had on.?

      I live in the great lakes region and 90% of the new truck listings around me are Ft. Wayne trucks. After Ft. Wayne negotiated to build crew cab short bed trucks I'm sure that had a big effect. Previously they were mainly making extended cab trucks with the longer bed. The change coincided with the new truck platform.

    Some observations:
    Saw the "GMT 800 Truck Team" banner on the crane in beginning of video. Even Chevy pays homage to a great truck.

      The Silverado and Sierra are still both sold under General Motors and, especially in 2019, both brands offer significant stylistic differences. I'm personally happy that GM has two options. I've always preferred the GMC styling over the Silverado styling myself.
      Also, economically it doesnt really matter that they are two different brands. General Motors outsells Ford in the truck market by quite a bit for the last 4 years straight. Besides, it wouldn't really be any more profitable for GM to combine GMC and Chevy. Sure, they could then own the "best selling truck brand" title, but what does that really matter? It means pretty much nothing when you consider that GM still outsells Ford in the truck market.

    • @T3CHK1NG54
      @T3CHK1NG54 5 лет назад

      DouubleTaap I Am a GM guy and I don’t think they outsell ford even with the Silverado and Sierra combined...they have some years, but definitely not the last 4

      @@T3CHK1NG54Straight from GM:
      "On a volume basis, we've sold more pickups than the F-series over the past four years in a row and that continues through this year," said Jim Cain, a GM spokesman.
      For all of last year, GM sold "a record 948,909" pickups in the U.S., "more than any other automaker for the fourth year in a row." That includes full- and midsize trucks.
      Ford sold 896,764 F-series last year."
      This includes The Canyon and Colorado mid sized trucks as well. I never said that the Sierra and Silverado alone outsell the F150 for 4 years in a row. I only said that GM outsells Ford in the truck market.
