@@kurtb8474 I know this will strike you as blasphemy but at age 80 I am playing a Walsh A2000 set of small pipes, hooked to an air compressor. Wonderful to set pressure for best tuning. Days go by without need to retune. If you want details i can supply them.

@@marffvmarffv5438 thats the point, if you dont enjoy it you wont keep at it. Suggest you pick simple tunes you like and put in what grace notes you can. Then, as you get better go back and add a few grace notes starting with ones that seem to improve the tune. Later on, unbelievable as it may seem, you will b able to add or take out grace notes as the whim strikes you during the tune. Sure its a difficult instrument but think of fiddlers...several ways to play every note and finger position decides pitch

My US friend who is former Army just said this the other day at my kids awards ceremony (we are Canadian). He didn’t elaborate. Is it because it’s slower? Smaller steps? They will march slower if there are pipes and drums, or a memorial they do this funeral march which looks different. For cadets this group is pretty good. I’ve seen some pretty rough looking drill 😂. My dd takes drill very seriously and she gets so annoyed when kids aren’t “squared away” and marching properly.

Gale force winds, rain changing to sleet/snow and back again, temps so low the bass drum has the resonance of a piece of concrete. Well done ACFPD and well done to the instructors who are able to inspire them to such commitment.

+iab_matthew111 For some reason, (I really don't know why), pipe bands adopt a military dress and style. The kilt, the hats the jackets, etc, are what is worn by military pipe bands, as well as the marching. Along with that, they pay careful attention to military comportment. That's just how it is.

I am Scottish on my dad's side of course. I just recently found out for sure we are Scottish ( wasn't sure before, thinking we were Irish). I found out my 3x great grandfather might have Bruce blood. I still need more research to find this out for sure but the paper clipping stated he as having blue blood and Bruce blood. He was born near Glasgow in 1844 and was a highlander. He came to the US in 1881 and worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania then came to Trenton, NJ and was employed by the Pennsylvania railroad company. Then he had a grocery business.

Very bonnie indeed! My hat's off to ya. I've seen performances way under the standard of your rehearsal! I love the footwork. You guys really pay attention to the angle and the step! There's only one band I know of that has this precise of footwork and good posture and angle of the body, and that's Arcadia High School in Southern California, USA. They are well known for their marching skills. We have a bonnie little band here in Southern California, of whom I studied field show band techniques with, a Gordon Norman, (now long since retired), who had that band's now tartan pattern woven in Scotland. They have a classical drill team and classical tartan uniforms and the bagpipes lead off their march. I was a band director for 29 years and I say, you are a beautiful band indeed.
