This Pipe Band BadAssery has been making me watch it 10-12 times per year since I first started piping again about 8 years ago. It makes my blood sing!
The only ones who dislike this march are those who can't re-transpose it to staff after listening to ILT play it, aka, the poser pipers/poser musicians. =)
Stunning!! My late father would have loved this to bits. I can see his big smile, dimples popping, eyes crinkling and twinkling, a foot tapping along. He always loved the people of New Zealand for their generosity and kindness to him and his fellow Army soldiers in WWII. A place he longed to go back to and visit. I thank you, New Zealand, for his care. I know he was profoundly grateful to you.
I adore this video. I must've watched it more times than anyone. Love from a Kiwi living in Tottenham, London. I left when I was three years old. Such brilliant ensemble playing. All credit to the band leader he must be one hell of a guy but in the end true team work! Respect.
Something about the pipes always brings me to tears and this is definitely of my favorite tunes I've heard, so thankful for Irish and Scottish culture.
I keep coming back to watch this on a regular basis. As a piper myself (nearly 50 years) here in the UK I have to say in my opinion the performance, technical skill and presentation given here an absolute joy. Just watched the 2021 NZ Pipeband contest and it was great to see ILT City of Invercargill still doing well. Magic!
iv watched this 100 times every time they break into Winnipeg Forger i get goosebumps .. as a drummer i love this si,ple but effectively powerful setting.. Piping is very strong and really holds the long notes well !!!
I keep watching this and over 7 minutes of continuous piping! And I thought 4 minutes of competition tunes was pretty good. Kudos again to you guys! Nice marching. All in line on the wheels too! Good video to show that. Nice to see classy work. Thanks for posting. Gives me the chills.
having lived in Timaru for many years... I can't think of a better thing to do in the Main St of Timaru!! As a Piper in Training... I'm blown away at how great they were!
simply nobody could play it better or even walk like this band. damn this one took me to the most horrific places and made me challenge the darkness below for a fight .
Clan Smith was also associated with Clan Macpherson and in the old days was one of of the allied clans under Clan Chattan. Although the Gaelic name for Smith is Gow, Gowan, or MacGowan, the anglicized form of the name has been used in Scotland since the twelfth century. THER YE ARE LADDIE
People around the world, you may not like the UK or it's western allies. But we get things done. Makes me proud to here my brothers up north play music like this. A show of cooperation, team work, skill & passion for excellence
First class pipe band. Spectacular very scottish style flavoured tunes and great street marching!... Love the depth and omnipresent sound of the Bass. Very well arranged march with only three tunes. Thanks for sharing
The 'Street March' is seperate contest Uncle Bob added on to the weekend of the NZ National Pipe Band Championships (MSR/Medley) and has huge public appeal. It is also included in many regional contests leading up to the National champs. All bands parade down the centre, or High Street, of the town/city where the contest is held and the public get out, support it and love it. They get to see all bands playing close up and marching which seems to appeal. Bands can play whatever they want to.
Awesome and playing continuously for all that time shows a really strong pipe band. I wouldn't have that kind of strength (maybe cuz I am 70). I play in the New Hampshire Pipes and Drums band and I thought we were good. After seeing this we have a new goal to try and get to! Thanks for posting.
Incredible performance. So powerful ! to the beginnig until the end. But very surprise with the way of the Drone Major ! Vive la Nouvelle-Zélande ! Vive invercargill highland Pipe Band !
And i will say it for the million time no band could beat this ever , damn i have been to dark haunted lonely places while this shouting real high asking for any damn trouble makers out there. From arab gulf
Good videography - nice and smooth ! Well played by the band - I have a DVD of one of your past concerts (given to me when I visited Aus. in 2009): very entertaining - I am a fan !
I absolutely love this!!!! The band is fantastic and the choice of tunes is spot on. I wouldn't even guess in telling you how many times I have watched this video. Is the band Grade 1 yet?
Just STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL and moving... Love the Soul/Pop Syncopation and Drum Line... gorgeous, attractive & moving... LOVE THESE KIDS... I WISH THEY WOULD COME TO AMERICA AND PLAY...
Ahh what the hell. It came up on the right as a 'suggested' video. May as well watch it for the 8 billionth time! It's just so AWSESOME. the VERY thick icing on this package was the super effective drumming (featured from 4:00) p.s. Still love you Matt Ward lolol!
0.25 - The collective drone just before the pipes begin sounds like a giant bee hive getting ready to come out for a fight, which is why the English regarded them as a weapon of war in the battles with Highland clans.
Calm Before the Storm is one of the most unique and understand rated pipe band songs. The drum intro is seemingly non traditional. That's why I like it!
Age 15, I went to Glendora High School where I was a tenor drummer in a marching band that was preceded by a pair of pipers with whom the massed bandgladly played Scotland the Brave, thrilling California audiences in doing so. I went on in my last two years of high school to be Drum Major, dressed in kilt, sporran, doublet, feather bonnet and guiding the band with my mace; had the time of my life, becoming State Champ leading California's best, the Glendora Tartan Band & Plaid Piper Drill Team
Love being able to hear the drums as well. Having two different tenors almost gives the sound of a marching band tri-tom, especially at the beginning. Great choice of music and a great relaxed but together march.
Thanks for posting...Good stuff!! This street march thing is a GREAT idea, IMHO...It is one thing to play while standing still in the circle after marching some number of paces, but to have to march for near 8 minutes...what a true test!! Do other contests do this??
It's a standard contest event in New Zealand for all grades, but is judged separately from the MSR/Medley aggregate and doesn't count towards grading. It's fantastic for the general public in my opinion and is a really great way for bands to blood newbies into competitions with slightly less demanding music than the MSR and Medley.
I have No Idea where You People Hail from Great Drum Majoring Great Piping and Truly Wondering Drumming Discipline Seems to be Wow to Play Piping Music. Loved it. Australia.
whos still here in 2023?😬 by far the best👏🏼👏🏼 listened to it on repeat countless times! this also got me back into snare drumming🏴
This Pipe Band BadAssery has been making me watch it 10-12 times per year since I first started piping again about 8 years ago. It makes my blood sing!
I keep coming back to this again and again.
Likewise was a piper as a kid now getting back into it.

year after year I come back here...great performance.
Lovely to spot one of my former pupils on the front at the left hand side, great playing Alasdair!
I've lost count the number of times I've listened to this March. Its perfect. I never tire of it!!!
Absolutely brilliant. Don't know how many times I've watched this. Thought scottish bands were good but this is best I've heard.
hello from Canada. that's a mighty fine band you got there real swagger.
This is probably the best band to come out of NZ.
No it's not.

It`s soooo ..... funky .One of the best P`nD Parades ive ever seen
Spot-on. Wish I'd known about my Scottish heritage when I was living all those years ago in Dunedin.

STILL LISTENING to this day. I haven’t heard anything that moves my heart quite like this. I am just an observer and roots.
Yes, we produce some good pipers here in the South Island!
New Zealand's South Island and the United Kingdom's Scotland should team up
From a former piper in buffalo NY, yes you certainly do that well, sorry, weeell. and what great music you picked too. Love it, Slainte!
"Calm before the Storm, Winnipeg Forger, Eric Stein".

It's the most beautiful air raid siren in the world.
It’s the sound that says to your enemy:

Invercargill: New Zealandish by country, Scottish by spirit.
That's quite a fine band, greetings from Buffalo, well done from a former street piper. I want to know how I can like this. again.
Great idea, and well done here by ILT Invercargill.
