- The massed pipes & drums march through Ballater in Royal Deeside, Scotland, to start the 2018 Ballater Highland Games.
The parade is led by Drum Major Ian Esson and the bands were Ballater & District Pipe Band, Towie Pipe Band, Ellon & District RBL Pipe Band, Kintore Pipe Band and Dalhousie Pipe Band from Switzerland. (2 others to be confirmed) Drum Majors included Bert Summers, Bill Barclay, Derek Dean, Roland Stewart, Robert Brownfield, Fiona Glennie...
After the parade through the town to Monaltrie Park, Ballater, the flag is raised and the Drum Majors salute the games committee.
My grandfather told me that his home town, Tilburg in the Netherlands, was liberated by the Scottish. The first thing they heard in November 1944 was a bagpipes in the far distance a very soft humming sound that came nearer. He told me that everybody went outside to see where the sound was coming from. There the Scottish arrived to officially liberate the city. My grandfather always held very dear memories to the Scots who liberated him, his family, his community, the city where I live. We're still very grateful and associate the bagpipes with liberation and freedom.
Beautiful story ,lest we forget the brave men and woman who fought for the freedom we have now
Great story
Truly moving story. It creates a beautiful image and somehow gives me joy.
Best wishes from Germany.

Yes, the bagpipes make me feel so close to GOD. As an American I can say thank you Scotland. Whenever I was in the presence of bagpipes, it was proceeded by a gust of wind. This means our heavenly father loves the bagpipes!

@s H Lmao where??? U talking about the Scottish government where one of their main driving ideologies is Scottish nationalism, and they've got Muslims in Scotland wearing tartan at weddings, etc.
@s H Scotland is one of the most highly patriotic and nationalistic countries I know of, the fact you have brought Sinn Fein into this shows you have underlying grievances you'r not telling us. The SNP's main goal is to restore Scottish sovereignty and promote Scottish culture, they have reorganised the Scottish education system so children are taught proper Scots history and not rubbish like the tudors, normans, King Arthur, etc which is taught elsewhere in the UK. Everywhere you go now there is Gaelic on road signs, on police, fire and ambulance vehicles - this is the SNP pushing this.
No one denied any made up services so made up spear throwers and sandal wearing bombers can get them first, you're just making stuff up to push your deluded agenda.
Cheers..

Sending goosebumps so proud to be Scottish 🏴🏴🏴
Independence for Scotland! Long live William Wallace and the Robert the Bruce! :)
@@aquariumdude7829 The English brought this rich culture together. Sorry to say that they're in with them for good, it's burned into British culture.
@@Brandon_J nonsense. read a book.
@@Brandon_J Say that in Scotland and you'll get a beating from pro-independence and anti-independence folk alike
Brings back my childhood for every Single Remberance Day marching with the thousands of men and women with my father, uncles and many, many friends. So much a part of me being of Scottish origin
Marvellous! Makes me feel proud to be Scottish, even though I'm not Scottish!
Mate same here😂😂😵

Heli-Crew HGS You are 1/2 y there if you wish you were!! I am, and very proud of it. 🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦👍🏻❤️

this song getting tremendously louder in the distance as you await your foe on the battlefield. You feel what you think is the beating of your heart in your chest only for the bag pipes ringing in your ears to make you realize the pounding is the footsteps of the pride of Scotland, the drums ushering in their victory.
New Year Eve here in Colorado Springs my soul is marching with eyes with tears. Heart heavy the skirlling of the pipes is like nothing on earth. Alba gu brath
Don't know what it's but the pipes do touch our hearts strings. I feel them move my soul and the tears just roll down my cheeks. I look AROUND and it's The same for those around. May they never cease playing
Honor, pride, and heraldry. Not a smirk or a smile in the whole lot. I'm in tears. My grandfather was a Scotsman. Thank you for upholding the greatness.
I love it...I think it sounds AWESOME
Absolutely awesome sight. Even as a non-Scotsman (Welsh) I can't help feeling emotional & proud at a display like this.
An aussie of Scottish heritage. It stirs my heart, gives me stength and inspires me to remember
The sound of the bagpipes in the wind is a wonderful thing to hear ❤

I´m from Upper Bavaria - but I love to listen that sound. It is just the phantastic wide choice of music all over the worlld. And you tube offers the wide chice and a little bit more....thank you. Great!
Magnificent! If that doesn’t stir your heart you don’t have one. I love the fierce unhurried gate of the march.
Just imagine getting charged by a load of men in the war and in the back beneath the sound of rifles and bombs you can hear the proud piper playing loud and strong.
Brought me right to tear! --- An' I'm not SCOT!
