Concrete proof that Blair Thornton was quite possibly one of the most tragically, insanely underrated lead guitarists ever to strap on an axe. Winnipeg represents.☺
No doubt, Randy and Blair were probably my first guitar influences back in ‘74 for this 11 year old! For years I wanted a Garnett amplifier, I finally found a Gnome from ‘73 in mint condition at a flea market in Saylorsburg PA around 15 years ago for 35 bucks. They were going for $350 on eBay but I kept mine, it’s my connection to BTO!
Blair reminds me of Jimmy McCulloch from early wings. Both very bluesy, melodic, fat tones. No wasted notes. Great guitarists. Both from all star great bands.
in part 1 of this concert it was Randy doing the solos. I wondered why they said Blair Thornton Lead guitar in the description. I have heard people diss him over the years, never really had an opinion. He kicks it here. A lead player that can set his own ego aside and lock in with what the other guitar player is doing is rare.

My first concert was Styx and BTO at the Chicago Stadium, Jan 1976, what a show! Styx had just released "Equinox" and BTO was still riding high from "Four Wheel Drive" and "Head On" had just been released the month before.
I wonder if concerts of any kind will come back. We had it so good back then. People elbow to elbow, smokin' cigarettes, or .....whatever, and havin' a good time. Nobody cared what the guy in the next row was doin'. I think it was called FREEDOM. Damn I miss it

Only in Canada do they think that BTO was underrated. In the States half of us still think Mississippi Queen was composed by this band. Despite their Canadian roots they are often considered staples of the southern rock movement of the 70's
I've always loved BTO. I was in my mid to late teens when I first heard them. In high school never stopped loving the band. Great musicians. I love Fred Turner's gravel Gertie voice. Apparently so did Randy that's why he and Fred agreed that Fred would do 3/4 of the singing. Keep rocking BTO you never get old. Still love you guys.
These guys played this tune at an Amway convention. During the 4 wheel drive drum solo this guy played part of this drum solo with his hands. It was awesome. They were hot and tight. A great live band.
Cost me a large premium bottle of Vodka to hear them at River Rock Casino, Vancouver after they got together again and were on tour. Great show, some pot smell waifing in the air before end of first number. Took a couple hours for my ears to get back to normal. Picked up their DVD of their concert recorded just before in NY.
