  • Chase Bliss Habit is an echo collector. Habit has a memory and can sprinkle in fragments of what you've played to bring the past into the present. Habit is a lot to take in, but I'm here to try to explain it as simply as possible!
Thanks to Knobs and Chase Bliss for sending me this pedal
    TIMESTAMPS:
    00:00 - 01:36 - glitch sounds with Habit
    01:37 - 02:35 - all of Habit's delay modes
    02:36 - 04:59 - controls
    05:00 - 07:01 - using Habit with vocal samples
    07:02 - 08:51 - using Habit as a "glitchy canon"
    08:52 - 11:19 - making the most of ✨ memory ✨
Curious about how I use effects pedals with my harp?

I love everything about this concept. It’s not a delay pedal. It’s a memory pedal. We love to think we know our memories, but in reality they are just jumbled fragments that never appear completely the same way when we remember them.

Ahhh great connection you made right there, I love that. That's exactly how the brain works, mirrored beautifully in how the memory of the pedal is constantly overwriting itself and getting more degraded.

I imagine if you tapped into Thom Yorke's head well he's asleep, it would sound a lot like the opening segment of this video. (and Emily , you are as brilliant and adorable as always) *and because it seems that no one has mentioned it yet, your Shirt is Amazing !!

Interesting marriage between modern technology and a traditional analog instrument. Not sure about the "in your face" bleepy bloobs, but the more subtle mixtures sound very nice. Maybe I should try sending classical guitar through my electric guitar pedals too and see what comes out...

It's wild how much this pedal is capable of! I want one for uke/violin glitchy songwriting.

Thanks for this! I really appreciate some new settings, and you guys get such nice things out of the modifiers. I've been so stuck on the idea of the compositional tool that Ive sent little time on the rest
Now that I have a few dozen hours in with the acoustic I'm convinced this can truly change the way you write and iterate ideas, or even improvise on the fly- though there anything outside glitch or ambient takes some finesse, doable though.
I prefer to set Spread to random square bounce for bringing in the memories though. Or Scan can join in as well if set to manual and automated that way too(say, L2R dips 3-10 on). The default autoscan- it just spends too much time making the scanning noise and not enough playing bits at too many settings.
With both randomized like that it's more likely a trip to crazytown, or at least a shambling triple tap delay, but in such a good way.
Thanks again for your ideas, I'm going to test them out now :)

This is much more than the "yet another glitch delay" I though it was on announcement. Not sure about the visuals, but its fun, and maybe pedal world needs more of that (even I can only take so much raw steel/brushed aluminum.
I thought the contexts you used it in demonstrated it's versatility and adaptability; kind of reminds me of blooper and MOOD, but completely different. I especially enjoy the almost "2000s ambient electronica" sound the Habit seems to have in it. If I got my hands deep into one, I think I would end up using it all the time without really thinking about it... oops, maybe we need a warning on CBA if they're forming so many habits.
Can't promise I'll remember everything in this video, but maybe Habit will!
I loooooove it and another tasteful jam from this jammery of a channel. Thanks, Em (and RUSS)

That was really great! What could be done with vocals here in that example you played! Sooo good! You made a CBA pedal feel accessible in the way you explained it, I always have a hard time understanding them. You really put so much into this Thank you! This was amazing in all it can do! Could you recreate things you played? If you played the same song or passage could you get something consistent in sound? I know the chopping can be random but the idea concept itself if I’m making sense?

Thanks so much, Joan!! This one is a LOT, and honestly it did take a while to find a way to explain it this simply 😅 while you CAN recreate what you played - there are less options to control it like you can with something like Blooper or a traditional looper - there’s a dipswitch at the top that makes it automatically play the memory back after exactly 2 minutes of playing, and it can be a really interesting tool for layered song creation! The manual has a whole page or two with some cool examples on how to use it like that (the manual is LONG!!!) and I did spend some time exploring that, but ultimately I decided to not showcase it in my demo! To me, it was an extra, fun feature, but I personally was able to make the most of the memory function with it being fragmented, random, and unpredictable!
