As a complete outsider that was dragged by the algorithm, this is both fascinating and impressive, the fact that you were able to transform the sound of the harp so much and how adeptly you operated all of those different pieces of tech to create something completely new. This was very impressive and kind of crazy to see! Lovely video
As a doom and black metal guy, this board is pretty intimidating lol but it is set up amazingly! What you guys do is incredible! The board is almost an instrument in itself and that is so cool to me! Keep it up!

Also I love the way you make sounds wiggle like they're moving underwater or through space or between time. It's very floaty and relaxing 💕
Oh my god from the 5:00 it sound so mesmerizing and beautiful. Something touched my heart at this moment and I remember as I listened Andreas Vollenweider for the first time as a child...
Hey Emily Hopkins and Russ! Thanks Russ for the clear description of the pedals and layout on that board! Thanks Emily for the nice audio! It's soothing like sonic meditation! Ride ride ride!
I've watched a lot of effects YT videos over the past year, and this is the best setup I've seen. Appreciate the level of detail and clear labelling/directions in your demos.

Thank you so much for explaining the signal path, the reasons why, and also explaining exactly what you're doing when you're tweaking! Some of these pedals are so complex (I have the microcosm, and Dark Star) and it's a science to even understand how to GET the sound we hear in our head! Great video, thank you!

John Bolger, Front Premiem Guitar said it best. No matter if you have a small board or a large board. You always need one more slot for another pedal. lol.
4:30 my Gosh thats sooooo wonderful wow!!!! My favorite harp music is this and the Harp in the movie Balde Runner. Im like a David Gilmour guy the way i play for a long time and he shouldve used harp in his solo music or Pink Floyd. I wonder what guitar and harp layered would sound like.
WOW look at that blue concert harp ! it is so beautiful !...My former partner Amy ( Sabine Silver ) plays her harp through effects , she gets a psychedelic soundscape similar to Emilys . Thankyou for this post , very cool.
Emily is incredibly lucky to have you around Russ. I can't imagine her ever controlling over 70 dials & 30 buttons on the board with her feet while she plays.
Em. I was meant to be in bed ages ago, but watching this video inspired me to plug the other side of my blue sky into the fxloop of the Plus... Uh oh. Ambient pads will have you moody soloing for a near infinite amount of time huh x
Been following you folks since Emily started posting on fb guitar pedal groups, in hindsight a genius move! So delighted to see you and Emily getting traction online and now also getting some welcome corporate support I am sure! This was a terrific pedalboard rundown, regardless of instrument. Clearly, you both spent a lot of time and effort to get the results you wanted and it shows. Especially love the explanations and rationales for your choices as well as how you plan to manipulate the pedals. One question though - prior to this gear notoriety, exactly what were you and Emily using in terms of gear to achieve the sounds you wanted? Or is this a completely new phase in Emily's musical journey, discovering how to leverage pedals normally considered as guitar tools? Cheers and congrats!
I watched the video to see how you're incorporating the Milkman. I'm still in the trial and error stage with my board setup and I'm also using The Amp 100 as a pedal platform (for electric guitar). I don't know anything about harp, but your playing was so beautiful I ended up watching the whole thing...so, so, talented! In addition to enjoying your music, I was reminded that I want to find a small lyre -> so I can spoof the "Bring me a small lyre... not that kind of lyre!" scene from Mel Brooks History of the World. You might be too young to know what I'm talking about.
Dark star on everything!!! 🤣 This was really great pedalboard rig rundown, I really enjoyed seeing how you both rigged it for a permanent style based on what style of sounds you use most. I also when I use Avalanche Run use it exactly in the same fashion, at the end and always in reverse it is to me at the end the best placement in a chain..that is till I got microcosm and ya anything in mode C is nice haha! Sames! Ok that gollum troll comment voice was epic tho haha real MVP is Emily’s voice character acting haha that was great! Really great work on this vid!
Thanks so much!! I discovered it while making my Plus pedal video, then I did it in my Donkey Kong Aquatic Ambience cover and was like okay this NEEDS to go on the board on a separate channel!! It was actually the first element of the board that we decided on before anything else!
A strange question for you: One of the things I like about the factory pickups on your harp (and other electroacoustic harps) is that they have separate jacks for high, mid, and low ranges. I've seen you put different effects pedals on each and turn your lone harp into an entire orchestra, a fully complete performance. Now if I were to put a DS pickup into my acoustic harp (a 47-string Salvi), it would give me one output. And I LOVE my new Salvi, so I want to keep it. Is it possible to chain high- and low-pass filters so as to isolate high/mid/low ranges on the harp and put each through a different board/box, thereby mimicking what it's like to have separate outputs as your Big Blue does? If so, how might that be set up? Just asking on behalf of everyone with an acoustic harp. :-) Thanks for any info you can share!
Hey!!! This question is amazing! I know KMA Audio Machines makes a pedal that splits different frequency ranges into separate outputs!!! Not sure how many outputs there are. It’s really hard to do it any other way, because for example the bass strings on my harp have a lot of character in the high range of the frequency spectrum, even though the fundamental note is a low frequency, so I would hesitate to think that just sending a low pass filter to an effect would have the same effect, but it’s worth at least looking into!
Is there any recommendations for artist that I could look up on spotify for soothing electronic music like what is played here? (I'm new to Emily's channel and very interested in the sound)
honestly, I'm not sure who else is making music like this with harps and effects, but I'm on Spotify and have lots of different albums if you'd like to listen to more! ❤️❤️❤️
@@emilyharpist Thanks for the follow up! You have another Spotify follower, I've gone through a couple albums already, unique and fantastic, thanks for all your work and sharing your creativity! (:
Nice explanation and demonstration! I love the sounds that are coming out of this board, even if Habit didn't make the cut! :'( Kidding - I know it has a home with you. These are some great chains that sound good but are also pretty general for the music you make - which is a smart choice for setting up your board. Niche sounds can worm their way into chains when they're needed. I like how pedal boards lead to creative and tough choices to focus on specific realms of sound for a board. I don't know if you watch HAINBACH's videos, but it reminds me of how he has set up his crazy diverse studio with what he calls "islands" - where he has self-contained areas of sound from synths and equipment that work in specific ways together that give him the sound and play style he wants with those instruments. He sacrifices the versatility of hooking up anything to anything else (which can be a paralyzing freedom with so much!) for the convenience and creative inspiration of having sounds and styles of play that are readily available, encouraging more playing music rather than having to struggle through setting up a good chain each time. It's an idea that I really like - and I think pedal boards are a great way to create pallets of color that can do the same thing - plug in a different board to the same harp, and a whole new world of sounds is available and easy to access. I've not had any complaints before, but for some reason this video feels especially well mixed (perhaps because the board is contained and controllable, making the post- side of things all the more easy!). The harp is crisp without being overly punchy, and the EQ is clean and wide. Maybe I'm just more conscious of it today, but it simply sounds really good!
Congrats on affiliateness, PC is a good store. I never use a pedalboard except for take-out. Wooden pedalboard, metal pedals, heavy cable interconnects... the weight adds up. Some pedals are just ridiculously heavy for their size and function. I'm not using them for target practice or to drive over, but it's nice to know I could, I guess...
Thanks Adam!! This board actually isn't nearly as heavy as I thought it would be - ESPECIALLY the Hands pedalboard! It's very light and only uses light wood on the perimeter. For reference, Russ can carry it with one hand, no problem, I'm just weak! lmao. I never had one until now because I never really left the studio during the pandemic!
Please do an album with Björk. I think she would be very inspired by your music. It would be the perfect collaboration. This reminds me of the Vespertine album. So incredibly beautiful.

Really beautiful board (love the pistons!) and such clean explanation for routing. Russ' finger-pointing game is on point because it helped me understand the routing perfectly haha
@@emilyharpist oh thank you too Emily! I love synths, but i have reached my bank limit, and can no longer keep on spending money on more synths XD. So i have turned into the wonderfull and expensive world of pedals! Is it cheaper than buying synths? You bet. ¿Is it going to help my bank account? Not in the slightest, but you, your videos and your harp have been a delightfull way to get familiarized with some AMAZING pedals. (Sorry for the bad english, it it not my native lenguage) Anyways, please keep on doing such wonderfull work! Sending loving vibes from Chile!
Not even 1/5 into the video, I had a laugh and a chuccle, had a really bad day, thx for straightening my head out. - all you need is sound/vibarion. I love you guys
Excellent selection of quality effects! Truly a modern board. You should probably get a mini phase 95. This stuff does subtle magic and does not take a lot of space (or mA). Cheers!
Wow...just a short while ago u were trying your first pedals on harp...look at u go now girl...!🤘😁🎸🎶☮️❤️....love it..my board is gigantic too ..full and a cabinet full of sonic inspiration to play around with..always adding to my collection....time I start subtracting though..lol..😂.. awesome board sounds amazing
Emily, it never ends! LOL My board right now is very good for what I do musically for now, but who knows! Well I also have a Line 6 DL4 mk 1 I know that's getting replaced with the Mk2! Aww catching up on your videos again, been writing a lot for a new project. This looks like a great set up! Russ seeing your hands manipulating pedals! This is amazing!
The Brazilian power outlet sucks… they were adopted 10 years ago .. in terms of safety it is nice, that was the goal of it, but it does not integrate with anything .. so we also have to buy adaptors (those unsafe, expensive and terribly made) to make our equipment work with the outlet.
As a complete outsider that was dragged by the algorithm, this is both fascinating and impressive, the fact that you were able to transform the sound of the harp so much and how adeptly you operated all of those different pieces of tech to create something completely new. Really beautiful board (love the pistons!) and such clean explanation for routing. Russ' finger-pointing game is on point because it helped me understand the routing perfectly haha
Thanks so much!! I’m glad you enjoyed this haha thanks for being here on the channel!
Truly hypnotizing sounds from that board!
Thanks!!!
Oooh what a board!!! It is not only a Pedalboard it is somehow a" passive Instrument". Amazing!
That’s a really great way to put it!! Thanks so much 😊
Absolutely fascinating. In awe of how you used the pedals and the music and soundscape you made. Wow
You've entered my top all time fave channels along with Friesian Horses, Nile Wilson & Rick Beato.
in love. With this pedal board, and with the harp.
(and with the harpist)
Haha thank you Bambo!
(Sorry for the bad english, it it not my native lenguage)
Anyways, please keep on doing such wonderfull work!
Sending loving vibes from Chile!
Excellent breakdown!! Thanks to the both of you!
Love that "Custom Neon Sign" almost as much as the ones that say "REPAIR" in the shape of a shoe.
Who knew harp players used pedalboards ?! I have be enlightened ! Thank you for sharing Emily - congrats on the new fun gear !
I made my board. I love your channel. Been telling all my students to visit.
This just felt good.
Wow,thanks you'll for starting my morning beautifully.👍
Cool video and pedalboard! Thanks for turning me into the Red Panda Mixer
Ahh this is so incredible!! I love how your board turned out!
Thank you so much, Nicole!!!
