A Marshall Origin with a good distortion pedal like a Rat or a JHS AT+ sounds far superior to the onboard gain of a DSL. Most classic Marshall tones are NOT modded but rather a Marshall boosted with a good pedal and mic'd up right. You listen to those classic VH, Dokken and Ratt hair metal tones and that's how they got them. In fact, Warren played an 18 Watt Fender Super Champ (Rivera era) on Ratt's first album, Out of the Cellar. At least for solos.

Great video. I'm gonna pick one of thse up. You just sold me on it.
Haha thank you so much! Glad to see some kindred spirits checking this out. This video was hitting a weird audience for a bit lol
Badass dude!
Thank you!
Damn near perfect Kyuss tone out the box.
Hell yeah! Cheers!
I like the test, so thx. I thought the amp sounded quite muddy. Like you said, however, not really a modern sounding amp. Chugging would be hard. Nice test though. Like the shirt too.
He had way too much bass and boosted with too much gain from his OD. Imo thats like a recipe for mud
it’s super easy to chug on, he just has his amp set incorrectly for that. he has it great for 80s shred but not anything for chugging.
If you’d like a more thrash metal style demo comment that you’d like one and ill make one for you
@@gamesandguitars3901 I'd definitely like to hear that. On the fence about this amp. If it can do thrash I'm in.
Just the vid I was lookin for lol
Power of the night 🤘
Yeees!!! 🤘🤘
Hell yeah! Big fan of boosting the front of the amp.
Will this sound good for pantera?
I’m guessing probably not. There’s too much of a high pass filter thing going on, which is the opposite of Pantera. I’d get a Randall solid state - they’re pretty cheap!
@@bvanhoosen yea I agree maybe a 5150 iii stealth lbx for that still. This amp is meant for maybe like classic rock to hair metal. Definitely can get MSG tones or early ufo
Power of the night
I was like hmmmm wait...I hear Chris! Then I came to comment and noticed it said Savtage in the Description. My flesh has been removed via force from a merciless onslaught of violence via Metal riffs.
Haha yes!! Savatage forever!
Sounds killer, you got some cool tones out of It . Your first Marshall? What do you normally play through?
Keith Fine usually some kind of flavor of a 5150 or 6505. I’m digging it though!
I think 🤔 💭 it’s 5/10/50 watts and yes it cranks!!!
5/20/50
Dave ..... 50 x 10 x 5 power settings I just researched it
It can do pretty well if you going after Judas Priest tone.
For sure! It's definitely old school
My buddy has a 2205 Marshall 800 he still isn’t a fan of this amp! It’s definitely good for a budget friendly amp! For hair metal to classic rock
@@jessetate9701 oh boy... Well, the asian Marshall closest to JCM800 tone is the DSL40, I've bought one when I saw Alex Skolnick playing on it on a Randy Rhoads tribute. Well, even the DSL/Origin Series of Marshall amps are expensive for me (Not only my job pays the minimal wage, but man, it's Brazilian issues like high taxes rated and sales companies making about 3x the value of product profit over it). Well, it's what I can pay for, and well, the DSL is a killer for Metal (Specially Dio and Ozzy stuff).
Sounds great with a pg14 and sonic maxie and some reverb
Hell yeah!
honestly, Almost Any amp will do metal ......with the right pedal . And so I assume it wont do metal without it.
Power of the night, raise the fist of the metal child
Yes!! A classic :)
Not bad at all considering the price if your looking for some good old raw school rock kinda of styles, over all good review man !
Mojanga Blox thank you! My thoughts exactly. If you want Marshall on a budget, this fits the bill!
Nice! Power of the Night
Raise the fist of the metal child!
Sounds like you're playing from a single coil, but I like it.
Thank you! That's kind of the Plexi vibe :)
Kickass!
its 50/20/5w options on the settlings
The true test of a marshall is putting everything on 10. This defo sounded incredible.
The second tone is more suited for modern metal like metal core or djent
I don’t think it will do Metalcore lol
More maybe thrash like havok
he took his hair from the Nelson bros.
Finally someone understands me!
crüe vibes without the pedal
Do you actually play with your bass at 9?
Mr. Bass Heavy for this amp, I have (all the examples with it there)! In listening back, I think I like the lower bass setting (with this IR setting at least).
@@bvanhoosen Ah I see, my bad sounds dope!
Lmfao sorry i didnt watch it all the way through. I just saw the part where you directly talked about that.
Mr. Bass Heavy ahaha hell yeah, thanks for actually watching! 😁
I love this amp. I would own this as well while I have a jcm 800 studio classic lol
Jesse Tate that’s awesome! Definitely want to add a JCM 800 to the collection as well
Bryce VanHoosen kinda responds like this with your pick attack. I’m going to maybe add fishman classics or the moderns in my Harley benton
I had that studio 800.
A one trick pony but O what a trick.
I'm probably going to grad this origin.
Another one trick but I'll grab some peddles for it.
@@decimusrex92 why did u let the studio 800 go?
@@jessetate9701
It was to mono use sounding to me.
It did one thing really well, sound awesome for a 70'80's and 90's sound.
No knock on the amp What so ever.
I was ,at that time, looking for convenience.
No lugging around or trying to find the best peddles to buy to get more versatility out of it.
Lazy really.
Plus I traded it on a sweet guitar.
You know, the disease were you need indulge another fix constantly.
The only reason he got that tone was because of that hair
OMG it sounds horrible... No sustain. Is not your playing but I'm not sure what it is.... Thanks for the review
Idk I dig it man. Sounds like an overdriven Plexi to me. If that’s not your thing, then that’s not your thing 😅
You almost sound like snake from the simpsons 😂
lol must be the NorthWest hesher dialect
Damn.....anything else you gunna run it through lol???.... hell u could.plug a TURD up to all of that and make it sound good lol.......anyways 👍🤘🏻
Haha thank you so much!
3:36 empieza el man
Glad you know like 30 seconds of one song. Really showed how dynamic this amp was.
MotoYoda yeah me too! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I followed you on instagram and found you randomly here lol
Haha awesome! Glad you found me here. I don’t post as often on RUclips, but welcome!
Heheh he's wearing mascara and lipstick
You look like Ted Poley from Danger Danger
Def not a amp modeler. Good tone
Thank you!
o noise gate está no talo pelo jeito kkkkkkkkkkkkk
se esse é o clean eu nem quero ver quando por drive nesse trem kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Savatage riffs!
Nicholas Da Ronch yeah! Hahahaha
@@bvanhoosen BTW, I would say that this amp it's ok for 80s style metal, but it does sound a little bit noisy and with way too much high end at any settings. It would be cool to hear it in a mix though, how about that? ;)
Nicholas Da Ronch I actually disagree, I think the thing to watch out for with this amp is the super round bass response it has. That high end is important when it comes to staying tight in a mix. Haven’t put together a song with it yet, but that’ll be my next task.
No metal no.
This guy does not know how to dial in an amp! Floppy bottom end! That would never cut through the mix! I have several amps. I also have this amp. If dialed in right with the right OD pushing the front end of the amp you can easily get a Randy Rhoads tone!
7:05 is a much tighter tone.
That clean don’t sound clean at all
Nah, I should have said “unboosted.” This being my first single channel Marshall, I didn’t get that the master had to be turned down in order to get a decent clean tone. But I would recommend something from the DSL series if you want cleans
@@bvanhoosen You need to turn the gain down if you want clean tones.
The master controls the overall volume, and only begins to distort when set at maximum
@@nightoftheshape mmmm no. Not on this style of amp or any amp that uses a hot power amp section.
@@bvanhoosen I mean if you turn the amp up to its absolute maximum it will produce distortion. Of course at that point the speakers will distort as well.
I'm surprised that you are getting so much distortion in the video, what are your settings? I've purchased the amp a few days ago and it is super clean-sounding, I'd have to crank it to get any kind of overdrive out of it
@@nightoftheshape my master is set to about 7! Should be a photo of my settings in the video as well. So it’s cranked up pretty far and going into a load box. Which is also why my “clean” sound wasn’t very clean haha
Dude, don't tell me, just play it
Time stamps are literally in the description 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
🤮
"Clean sounds" -- It sounds like it's got something wrong with it.
Nah, I just had no idea what I was doing and the master was cranked. Single channel Marshall doesn’t really have sounds.
Honestly dont like this amp one bit sounds really muddy to me.
Think my bass was too high tbh. But yeah, that's my biggest gripe with this amp and not something you hear on a 2203 or 1987 design.
Mashall have lost there sounds now. Cos made In china
Vietnam
Yeah remember when all those resistors and capacitors weren't made in china
your guitars out of tune dude
Mark Durling I don’t care
@@bvanhoosen will it do stryper tones jk of course it would
@@jessetate9701 lol! It only does Stryper tones 😂
best. play. a. blackstar.
