    I just got this amp. Its kinda like a 100% play amp really. I have the 50w and when you have it on low crank full everything it reallllllllllly rocks. Its totally geared for someone playing in a band with drums and has down what they are playing. This guys review is real good. Go with the 20w youll be happy and learn how they used to do it back in the day.

    Terrific, thorough, and honest review of this amazing amp! I'm in complete agreement with your assessment. When I got my Origin 50, I was somewhat surprised by it... However, I quickly discovered that by using it in conjunction with other amps that my tones are amazingly articulate, clear, punchy, and set forward in the mix without having to battle for volume (though it is fully capable of extreme levels). It's a very exciting and inspiring amp with tons of headroom and overall versatility, but probably not going to be the first choice for a strictly Metal player. It does take pedals quite well, but I find that it really shines as a bare-bones and dry gutteral thumper (classic AC/DC type drive) in conjunction with a higher gain, wet setup.

    I've got the 50 combo it's awesome. I love the plexi clean and this nails it. Without sounding 'off', 'snooty' etc - most marshallers aren't after plexi and are generally being sold a misnomer . For no pedal gain you're talking jcm800 onwards. Turn the origin 50 to midday pre and 3pm master, attenuate to suit the potential violence of the neighbours and you get an amazing edge of breakdown that reacts to your pick dynamics. As good as fender but more Jimmie?.. so as a metal amp - as bad a choice as any plexi superlead or jtm 45.. as a responsive pedal platform fuck yeah sir

      The sound sample with the Gretsch at 6 and a half minutes is clean. The NO TALKING video that I did has the last 2 sound samples on the clean channel, except for the leads. It's a rather bland clean Tone. This amp really shines when there's a bit of break-up, but most people want to hear how this amp performs with gain. That's why you don't often hear the Clean Tone in RUclips videos: It's bland. Cheers -Ryan

    Thank you for making this video covering the Origin 50. This is a awesome video with tons of great riffs, stand out tones/riffs at 8:13 and 10:16. Love the blends also, leaning towards the the Orange blend the most IMHO.

    I am looking at the 50 used because the price is pretty good ....I am likely not going to use it a lot in the lower gain range but having the option would expand my ear....I really appreciated when you put a boost in front of it ... between your playing and the tone, sweet!

    I bought the combo based solely on the headroom, and price. I didn't even know it got crunchy until I got it home? I got it for my pedals. Man, does it love pedals! I kinda wish i had gotten the 20 instead now, but hey, I paid $611+ tax, new, in the box. Can't complain about that. I found mine breaks up more and more, and is sounding better and better, the more i play it. At least it seems that way to my ears. In all, great way to spend $611 dollars!

    Dude this is a badass amp I work at a music store and we have one that I put a Friedman be-od in the front and as a tc fangs and good god either of those pedals turn this amp into a metal monster. This is a great loud amp for pedals. Especially if you use like a helix or some type of multi effect.

    I have the origin 50h. Well, I gotta share with you. This amp sounds really great. U won’t get a clean clean sound, you’ll always get some slightly overdriven sound, but it sounds that little dirtiness makes it sound really particular.
    You can really get a great sound out of this. It’ll fit in your mix like a glove.
    I’ve tried different settings, used the tilt through 0 to 10 and every setting I’ve used sounds great. You won’t go wrong with it.
    This is not a modern amp so in order to use get a modern sound you might need to use pedals.
    This is a very classic sounding amp, which is the perfect rock tone.
    So, you can try to get a lot of legendary tones and it’ll sound great.
    You can try to get a Keith Richards kinda tone, angus young, slash, metallicas kill ‘em all era kinda tone, u2, GNR, etc.
    Compared to other tube amps, what you get for what u pay is just amazing.
    I got mine when it was cheaper, like about 500 bucks

    Hey good review, I'm looking for a backup amp, and came across this Marshall Origin. I was mainly looking for a "clean" amplifier, I use a pedalboard live or sometimes (depending on which band I play in) a Boss GX100 (especially for a cover setlist). As a user of several Blackstars, I wanted to try something different and after your review, I know for sure.
    The Origin 50 is ideal and has a different sound

    Thanks, a really good and usefull review! But I could use some advice. For my RHCP cover band and Frusciante tones I am looking for a amp head, for band practice, gigin but also home use if possible. I allready have the Marshall 4x12CAB and I am still wondering what amp head to buy with a tight budget. I can get a used Origin 50h for a good price or should I go for the Origin 20. Or go for a DSL or something different? I am also happy with used gear. At the moment I have a Fender Mustang III V2 and it brings me quite far. But a Marshall tube amp with 4x12 cab mmmmm. All kind of advice is welcome.. thanks again

    • @Crypticmaskguitar
      @Crypticmaskguitar  5 месяцев назад +1

      In all honesty... the Low End Response on the DSL will get you closer to the fat clean tones that Frusciante gets... also the DSL Jason more than one channel and you can use the DSL's drive channels to get closer to Frusciante's dirty tones. RHCP would require lots of pedals anyway, but they wouldn't be as necessary with the DSL. A Used DSL to match your Marshall 1960A or 1960B would give you a great start for RHCP! Cheers -Ryan

    I have the 50 head, sitting on a 4x12. Mostly classic rock, but put a Tubescreamer in front of it and you can push it hard.
    I also hit it with a Headrush board. Just depends on what you're looking for.

      I'd go with the Origin cause of the tubes. The DSL is solid state. Guess I'm just biased towards tubes. I do have a Marshall DSL combo amp that sounds amazing as well. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice!

    • @Crypticmaskguitar
      @Crypticmaskguitar  2 месяца назад +1

      The DSL is not Solid State. I'm not sure where you are getting your information from. But if you look in the back of your DSL you should see EL34 and 12AX7 Tubes. I would still go with the Origin for a Punk band as it sounds more raw than the DSL Series. But it's all down to personal preference. Cheers -Ryan

    This amp got a bad rap @ first because everyone for some reason thought it would be a High gain amp & it isn't. (JMP/Plexi) People didn't do their research before buying it & were disappointed. It's great w/pedals, I run a Daddy O or a DS-1 in front of it or just using the amp's boost you can get some good crunch. I'll set it @ Presence @ 3, Vol @ 3 minimum, Treb @ 6, Mid @ 7 or 8, Bass @ 5. I'll set the Tilt @ 4 to 6 & Gain @ 6. It also depends what cabinet/speakers you're running it thru. (1965A 4x10cab). It's a versatile amp w/some nice clean tones. Using an EQ in the Effects loop works really well also. Great vid. Run it thru a 4x10cab & see what you think. Rock on!!

    Great video! 100% agree that you have to change your thinking when you start using it, as compared to how you thought you were gonna use it.
    I currently use this in a hardcore band together with an EVH 5150III and they blend pretty great! The Origin does a good job in the mid-highs while the EVH owns the lows, overall making a tight but distinctive sound between the amps. What helps me keep up with distortion is an OCD pedal in the chain, so (in most cases 😅) it definitely chugs!

    The origin 20/50 are both fantastic amps for classic rock/hard rock. So in a way they cover a lot of territory.
    They aren't very good for any modern tones.

    Not a terrible budget amp for a hobbyist or beginner, not a plexi though similar cosmetic design that’s about it it’s a wanna be. Youd be hard pressed to see a serious musician running one on stage. I live by the motto “why buy something trying to sound like something else when you can just have the real thing”. The Studio Vintage is the way to go for a real deal quality made English Marshall plexi. The finest amp I’ve ever ran and will likely be my main rig for many many years for life most likely unless I manage to get my hands on a Vintage Plexi one day but that just a dream at this point.

      The SVs are double the cost, while not sounding twice as good. The Origin sits right in my budget and sounds incredible in my opinion, after gigging heavily with one for a year now. For the kinds of bar gigs I do, the extra cost of an SV simply isn't justified. This is a real-world journeyman amp. I'll never spend more than a grand for either a guitar or an amp
