I'd be sailing too (did part of it long. long ago) if it wasn't for marriage, children, and all the real and assumed responsibilities coming with an asymmetrical relationship and family life that's rather "steadfast" but not adventure-bound. Yeah, sounds sad, but cutting the roots lead to never-ending emotional turmoil for the youngsters, and of course, both age and "security" also play their cards.

So I saved up (that took 10 years) and bought my own yacht, a beautiful 1979 S&S30, similar to the Yankee 30, which I can, and mostly prefer, to sail solo. I’m only 5’2” almost retired so 30ft is what I find to be small enough to handle & maintain solo, but comfortable out on the ocean. Fair winds and hope you find your yacht.

Plukky, You've already told us the Columbian Navy is competent and professional. I'm of the opinion that the pale green glow in the night was a Columbian Navy ship surreptitiously checking you out. Remember, you discovered later they knew exactly where you were and who you were. All they would have needed to change the colour of your pants that night was give you twin blasts with searchlight and megaphone. I expect their night vision equipment would have given them all the information they might have wanted. If they had advertised their presence, they might have needed to do a night boarding and that would have been complicated and inconvenient for them.

I'd be sailing too (did part of it long. long ago) if it wasn't for marriage, children, and all the real and assumed responsibilities coming with an asymmetrical relationship and family life that's rather "steadfast" but not adventure-bound. Yeah, sounds sad, but cutting the roots lead to never-ending emotional turmoil for the youngsters, and of course, both age and "security" also play their cards.

@@MsMesem I hear you as exactly that happened to me. So I saved up (that took 10 years) and bought my own yacht, a beautiful 1979 S&S30, similar to the Yankee 30, which I can, and mostly prefer, to sail solo. I’m only 5’2” almost retired so 30ft is what I find to be small enough to handle & maintain solo, but comfortable out on the ocean. Fair winds and hope you find your yacht.

Plukky, You've already told us the Columbian Navy is competent and professional. I'm of the opinion that the pale green glow in the night was a Columbian Navy ship surreptitiously checking you out. Remember, you discovered later they knew exactly where you were and who you were. All they would have needed to change the colour of your pants that night was give you twin blasts with searchlight and megaphone. I expect their night vision equipment would have given them all the information they might have wanted. If they had advertised their presence, they might have needed to do a night boarding and that would have been complicated and inconvenient for them.
