Your longbow is not going to shoot the same arrow as your recurve, as well, because the recurve is centershot or close to it, thereby reducing "archers paradox".
Your longbow has no arrow shelf cut in, therefore the arrow needs to be more limber (less spine) to bend around the handle (archers paradox). ScottinPenna.

Thank you for this video, it never ceases to amaze me just how much archery content there is on RUclips. Five years have passed, I wonder if you've extended your bow collection in that time?
On being overbowed, I had the exact same issue in reverse, I have a gorgeous American flatbow I love but at 34# it's way too light for me. Recently bought a Bickerstaffe flatbow - primitive pyramid bow at 45# and found my sweet spot. It's what works that counts not the numbers 🏹👍

Overbowing is probably the single most reason, beginners give up. One has to develop muscle memory in the back and arms and work up slowly in poundage, just like weight training.

Nice bows! Just got myself a takedown recurve last week and got to shoot it first time and it's amazing. As far as nocking points, you might want to check into Armin Hirmer's youtube... He shoots a number of traditional recurve bows and he had a video where he shot a bow that didn't even have a nock on it and he explained how to simply position the arrow.

Your nocking point on the string should be approx. 3/8 inch above zero. I set up ALL of my bows at that measurement.
You stated your arrows are flying wonky from your longbow...id say its more of "proper spined arrows".
Whatever the bow weight is at your draw length, ie. 35@28..32@27, your arrows should spine 5 lbs. Less. ScottinPenna.

Hello, I've just dropped onto your channel and watched the video about your bow collection, impressive. Like myself you have several different shooting styles that broaden your archery skills.
Regards the nock points on the English self bow, they don't have any, they don't even have a handle. There made of four parts, a string, two horn nocks and the bow itself. You get the balance of the bow between your thumb and first finger, that's were the bow is gripped. You then hold the bow horizontal to the ground and place the arrow onto it. First place the arrow 90° too the bow then move the nock end of the arrow up the string about one to one and a half thicknesses on the arrow shaft.
This should be about in the ball park. When you've found the sweet spot I find a sharpy marker keeps it there. I shoot a English warbow, 110lb @ 32" draw but I too have a wide range of bows starting at 30lb. I hope this was of help. Happy archery.

@@bowsanderrors4017 know problem. I make English long bows and shoot what is called "Clout" archery. You put a flag on a pole in the middle of a field then walk 3 to 400 hundred yards away and it's the closest too the flag wins. But as I said, the pure English longbow is just 4 components that can fire a half inch thick shafted arrow with deadly affect.
I watched your video about "Stumping" those arrow heads look special. Longbow arrow would just go straight through it. Mind you, after 5 shots your usually done for an hour or two.
      Enjoy your archery.

they can take your cottonmouth and lower the poundage on it, and then they just put a new finish on it. I know quite a few guys in our archery club that have been shooting a 50 lb bow for 15 years and now that they are getting older had to send their bow back to have the poundage lowered. It comes from Traditional Yew English Longbows. Yew is like two laminations of timber but are naturally one. Heartwood and sapwood. The sapwood resists stretching and the heartwood resists compression.....A perfect natural spring. A properly broken-in Yew bow is beautiful to shoot. I have a 52# Ravenbeak and it's fast and smooth.

I know they're not long bows, but I think the principle is the same as to why a nocking point doesn't really work without a shelf. Any small variation in bow-hand placement throws the nocking point off. ruclips.net/video/GmgLhbrtIKc/видео.html
