    Your longbow is not going to shoot the same arrow as your recurve, as well, because the recurve is centershot or close to it, thereby reducing "archers paradox". Your longbow has no arrow shelf cut in, therefore the arrow needs to be more limber (less spine) to bend around the handle (archers paradox). ScottinPenna.

  • @scottrobertson9452
    @scottrobertson9452 4 месяца назад

    Your nocking point on the string should be approx. 3/8 inch above zero. I set up ALL of my bows at that measurement. You stated your arrows are flying wonky from your longbow...id say its more of "proper spined arrows". Whatever the bow weight is at your draw length, ie. 35@28..32@27, your arrows should spine 5 lbs. Less. ScottinPenna.

    Lovely collection. I'm new / returning so it's lovely to see lots on RUclips. Thanks for sharing. Perhaps the boring and too heavy will fund something new when you're ready. What would you buy I wonder.

    I don't find this video boring at all. I commented on another video of yours just now. You made it 5 years ago. So now watching this fairly recent video I have to ask if you are still shooting your English longbows? I sent you my RUclips channel for you to see me shooting my English longbows. I think my videos are a bit boring. I started years ago with a takedown recurve bow, then added a sight. I could hit doubles on a dartboard!! But it got boring and I felt a bit of a cheat!! As I'd always wanted an English longbow ever since I was a kid, I bought one. Just a bit of "stick & string". I now have 7 Bickerstaffe Longbows and a yew selfbow. I love shooting them as there are no gimmicks with them. I am getting better with my accuracy and love every minute.......even when I'm shooting badly!! 😂😂. A great Guy to watch shooting an English longbow is my friend Kevin Hicks of the "History squad" RUclips site. He was a Bowman for a living and was the Bowman of Warwick Castle here in England for many years. I wish you well with you shooting. Check out my @davesheppard8797 RUclips channel if you want a laugh!! Best wishes, Dave.

    I started with olympic and went to trad some years ago. I think it doesnt matter which way you switch, the change itself will teach you a lot about your shot cycle and archery mechanics, I think. At least that's how it was for me.

    I agree it's a lot of fun. In the UK we use flu flu arrows with rubber blunt heads at medieval reenactments and I use them a lot for training archers. They are almost impossible to lose and pose no perceived threat if found by a non-archer. They are great for clout shooting in a limited space. I also use them at diopter range against canvas soft targets. Have lots of fun, it's why we have bows.

    No humidity here in California at the moment. But warm. Completely understand you on “competing” with a wood bow when you’re in a field of modern bows. Hey it’s ok at least your Striker is made as a takedown, mine is a self bow and 72” long. Usually the only person shooting Primitive longbow or I’ll sign up as Trad longbow wood…. Maybe be in the middle of the pack. It’s good though makes you try harder. Good luck with your new bow.

    Happy new Bow! Quite a while ago I used to shoot "Olympic" Recurve and they are great bows! Accurate, fast etc etc, but they lack the Fun factor. These days I shoot thumb draw Asiatic bows, now there is a challenge for you! The bows are dirt cheap (even decent ones) weigh nothing and are VERY efficient. I usually use a lighter draw (than your recurve/Trad bows) Korean bow , but I am only shooting to 180 yds so I don't need anything powerful. Also my entire kit (including a flask of Tea) weigh less than your bow. Well worth a look if you want to bring fun into your archery and there are plenty of Field/3D comps for them over here - there are probably more on your side of the pond. All my best and I hope all your arrows come home - mine don't!

    Thank you for this video, it never ceases to amaze me just how much archery content there is on RUclips. Five years have passed, I wonder if you've extended your bow collection in that time? On being overbowed, I had the exact same issue in reverse, I have a gorgeous American flatbow I love but at 34# it's way too light for me. Recently bought a Bickerstaffe flatbow - primitive pyramid bow at 45# and found my sweet spot. It's what works that counts not the numbers 🏹👍

    Think of a clock. Twelve noon. Your torso is at two. It should be twelve. It's also called open or closed. Shooting at 2times2 or 3times3 you should use a closed stance straight sideways. This is more consistent stance. And remember never move your hands when shooting. Always keep hands in same place while shooting. Just move your release fingers. Way more repeatable. This should help you repeat the same shots time after time.

  • @hillbillyslots1636
    @hillbillyslots1636 Год назад

    Hey you great too see shooting. The thing I see you should work on. Your bottom torso. Feet shoulder width apart . Turn sideways. Right side hip should be straight in line with target. Now raise your right arm use your pointer finger should line up straight to target. Practice this so it becomes natural.

  • @michaelfurukawa8526

    Hey no one expects much from trad after 40 yards. I didn’t realize you were shooting 30-35# bows, tough for past 45-70 yards but good on ya. Respect. Personally I’m getting ready for the field 900 event, my 50 yards shooting needs more work.

    Curious as to what make and model of bow you and your friend are shooting. You said yours was a 30# what draw weight was your friend shooting? I haven’t bought my first bow yet. I will be visiting an archery shop soon and taking lessons. I will definitely be getting a longbow and starting out with a 25#. Don’t want to make the mistake of being overbowed to begin with. Also, I’ll most likely get one of the Bearpaw / Bodnik bow models: slick stick, or quick stick models. They both have a 30 year warranty. Any advise? You or your subscribers?

      Hi Gary. I’m the over-enthusiast friend and I shoot a beautiful stalker stickbow built for me to pull 35lb at my t-Rex armed reach. What I would say is the depending on the bow 35lb could pull much easier than a 30lb, I would advise if you at all could to try the actual bow you’d like to try before buying so you know what’s comfortable for you. 😊
