      In California you cant leave a pool like this. You have to crush down the sides, then fill the hole with fill dirt, then topsoil . The mosquitos and drowning hazard. In a lot of areas, you can never build over that area again, nor can you put a pool. There are entire companies whose business it is to bury pools, and home buying inspectors who check there isnt one buried in the yard!

      I used to work at a very large country club pool which was built entirely from 3/8" stainless sheeting over a metal skeleton. The sheets, though very stiff and strong, were not entirely inflexible and if you stomped on the pool bottom you could feel the give and hear an eerie echo.

      @BeckVMH 2 года назад +1

      I worked for a pool company in the late 70s, early 80s while attending college in NC and this was the construction method. Vermiculite or usually sand was used for the pool floor. Concrete was poured behind the metal panels to a certain height and backfilled with dirt. Brought back memories watching this haha.

      I saw something posted on Facebook the other day and the lady had like six different layers of flooring laid in her house. Two different tile layers, plywood, linoleum, and at the very bottom or hardwood floors. She showed a side cut of it and it was literally like three or four inches thick, so weird. No one ever bothered to remove the old flooring they just kept adding new layers 😂

    • @TheChloe1331

      This would drop the value for me. It would cost at least $20,000 to remove this crap and backfill the hole. And then another $50,000 to build a safe real pool farther away from the house.

    • @DoctorSess

    • @TheChloe1331
      @TheChloe1331 2 года назад +4

      @@DoctorSess Actually it does. There's a huge difference between a cheap, ghetto metal/plastic hole in the ground and a proper pool. That is just an above ground pool in a hole. There's about a $25,000 up to $75,000 difference. The value can be even higher than that depending on the pool and where the property is. And bigger houses WON'T sell if they DON'T have a pool. And bad placement can bring down value, especially if local laws require such things like fencing. Imagine sitting on your covered patio, your pool is 1 ft past that and local laws require 4-5 high fencing. Nobody wants to sit in jail in their backyard. Now make it that cheap ghetto pool, and your value plummets¹. Oh, not to mention, that it makes the rest of your yard relatively unusable if you have to go thru the pool area to get to it. We took advantage of a bad pool placement and knocked $200,000 off our bid. And we got it

    some tips and observations: sprinkle some water on drying concrete to prevent surface cracking. cracks happen, when there is solid surface and "liquid" inside that is not settled - so the movement of the inside part will brake the solid surface. also, in case of unstable grounds there is a right choice to use gravel or similar thing as a "cushion".

    You guys did something many people would never even make an attempt to do and even contractors would tell you to just keep it buried. You ought to be proud. The only thing I would say is I don't recommend the use of that flex line since it's susceptible to leaks due to bugs eating though it so keep an eye on that in the future. But still fantastic job and it came out amazing. Great job y'all!!!!

    It’s interesting to see how different parts of the country do pools so different. Here in the southwest we dig holes into the clay, line with rebar and shoot shotcrete around the inside. Then we come back and lay pebbletech or plaster. Seems like the Midwest all does these pool liners, which is weird for us. I’m guessing plaster and concrete just wouldn’t last the same in the frozen winters or something.

    Neighbor got tired of replacing the pool cover on his unused pool. Raccoons kept shredding them. He decided to fill it in. Was told he's need only one load of dirt (which he seriously doubted would be adequate) but he ended up needing 4 full loads of fill dirt to fill it up. Seemed kinda extreme to do that because of pesky raccoons. He said one of the marauders was enormous--watched it make mincemeat out of his pool cover. Me--I'd set up a camera so I can watch them do their raccooning. And buy cheaper pool covers for them to play with.

    A quicker way to proceed after clean out is to spray glue over the metal panels and roll 1/4” foam over the entire surface including the floor. A new liner over that thin film of foam padding makes like a brand new pool.
    Good job though!! Geez what a ton of work huh??
