  • My brother, Andrew and I bought an old abandoned house in Portugal and spent the next 18 months, along with my wife Cristina and our good friend Detlev, renovating it back to new.
Not going to lie, it was tough, but we got there.
Watch the transformation through my eyes as we went full steam at taking on tasks well out of our comfort zones.
This is a story of perseverance and determination, that I am incredibly proud of our achievement.
My brother has his own RUclips channel: / @blondguy where you can see his side of the renovation.
Although we did many jobs together, we also did jobs on our own. This is my version of The village house renovation.

Thanks for the wonderful comments. There seems to be a reoccurring opinion from a few people that the house should have been demolished and rebuilt.

How many of yous fast forward to the 44th min😂

This demonstrates what skill goes into building. I think people often view construction work as fairly menial labor. This video perfectly illustrates that builders are truly craftsmen and artisans!

There's something so much more satisfying about restoring an old house than having a new one built.

Wow! I am shocked and amazed how you redid this house! I could not imagine how those rock walls were even standing! Everything is very beautiful and clean! I bet the people in the town really love what you did here! What a hard working talented team you have! You turned your vision for this house into a reality! Well done you all!

losing that arch was a heartbreaker! what a lovely project... and it is wonderful to save an old house vs knocking it all down.

My brother was a carpenter and I worked in the trades for a number of years. I would help him remodel houses which he would flip and eventually he built two new construction homes which I helped with extensively. Now my brother is gone and I am retired on disability but those times are some of the best memories of my life. Great times, and I miss him dearly.

Wow! As a longtime general contractor who has remodeled many old buildings, I am in awe of this undertaking. The vision needed, along with the patience required, is beyond most folks' ability to comprehend. Well done!

  • @babyelias3992

It was so satisfying to watch it, I saw it whole without skipping, didn't realised when 45 minutes passed away, I feel the dead house would be so grateful to you for giving it a new life, may God bless you. Amen 🤍🤍🤍

As a licensed contractor for years, I have so much respect for you and your team. I would have never taken the risk and time to start this project. You did absolutely amazing great work💪🏻

  • @ToddHurney

Two brothers did more in 18 months than most crews can get done in the same time. Awesome job! You guys obviously know your stuff!

I renovated a 60sqm flat rearranged walls, removed every door, etc. Done like 60% myself, helped in almost every part (except electric stuff ). So I could feel the huge amount of work. Congrats! You’ve created something beautiful.

I’m glad the RUclips algorithm led me here. It’s a plessure to watch a wonderful family memory!

  • @MaritimeDisplaced

As someone that works in Demolition, excavation, contracting and services installation, and has built their own home themselves, I can honestly say, Congratulations and much RESPECT. I can see the hard work, passion and attention to detail in this project. Also great job at editing and showing the progress

Amazing job. Turned out breathtakingly perfect.

  • @Lene-inBerlin

Didn't think I'd manage to watch 44 mins of a renovation video, but you had me captivated! Excellent job. Enjoy your home and Portugal 🇵🇹 ❤️

  • @RadioMan666

My father was a general contractor in the US. He started out as a plastering contractor. It’s been decades since I’ve seen anyone doing any plastering indoors. I have helped build many homes and remodeled, countless others. I kept looking for you guys to make a mistake, You didn’t. I feel like remodeling is much harder than new construction. At the end of your RUclips, my shoulders, back and knees aches for you. BRAVO!!! 😀
