Telling me How stupid I was for spending money on junk property, ( whatever that meant). Now, Im the proud owner of a 5200 sq.,ft., 2 story home, with my own pond stock with fish, and a infinity salt water pool, in my back yard. Me & my husband bought a “crack” house back in 1989 , we assumed a mortgage with $3500 savings and our house payment was $385 including taxes & insurance. We owed $18,000 on a $50,000 home. The windows were sprayed painted black . He did all the skilled labor and I helped with sweat labor & design. A lot was done before we moved in to make it livable but we did the bathroom , kitchen and utility room the first year .We sold it 5 years later and walked away with $53,000 for the down payment on our 5 bedroom family home. The family who bought it loved it and raised their children there. I still drive by from time to time. Worked so hard on house number 2 too! LOL Long story short I am on house #5 and it is all out my system LOL staying put and this home is the official homestead for me ❤ You made this place amazing!! TYFS

I took a class inbuilding a shed which we actually built. It was all from scratch and nothing prefab. We went to Lowes in the contracter section and learned how to order proberly determined amounts of paint, lumber, siding, faseners, etc. Your video made it all look simple because you are a young expert who like all great carpenters, are ethical, precise, creative, daring, resourceful, amble and able, sure footed, coordinated, determined, consistent and willing to admit what didn't work well, how you would do things differently and the willingness to learn about new techniques and tools and equiptment. Your video was enlightening, instructive, refreshing, entertaining and very much appreciated. If there was one thing I would tell others when informing them about this video it would be this. "He explains everything and he admits what did not work and why it did not work and what he would have done differently. Plus he identifies each tool and material and it's use." Great job! When you are struggling and you value anything that comes your way, you will practically live with any situation, until you can get it fixed. People who do not know what it feels like to really struggle have no idea of the concept of valuing…everything that comes your way, no matter how it looks.
I would have lived in this house just the way it was. You made it look beautiful. People who leave negative comments hate themselves and their life, that’s why they behave like bullies.
I loved that you did it without the permit at first, I do that in my life so much, I say….ah, the hell with it, when they come I will deal with it. The hoops that this world has simply invented to suck money out of people is incredible annoying.
Great work, it looks amazing! 🎉

More young couples need to buy starter homes like this and do that work - if the entire neighborhood was mostly bought up as starter homes and people did these fixer upper things, the majority of the neighborhood being upgraded would benefit everybody.

    • @viepng

NO. Not only are "young couples" buying old charm homes and stripping them of character but theyre also doing them without professional help or hiring out for cheap and doing shit jobs of renos. So many homes that had potential have been ruined because people come in looking to make a profit and because they arent going to live there themselves they dont care about the quality of work done.

Where I live there are big restrictions on doing renovation work on asbestos. Basically you have to be the homeowner with no intent to sell in the next year or otherwise if you do sell within a year, you have to pay huge fines for not having a licensed company do the work. Stuff like that...just make sure to protect yourself...on top of reading all safety precautions when working with it.

If I can do it at 50 and I’m a female, a young kid can do this. I think men are born with a knowledge of building that women don’t have, it takes me a bit longer but the houses are beautiful after. I invested very well when I was still in college and I retired when I was 43.
I’m too old now to put in sweat equity into flipping houses, so now during the summer I grow enough fruits and veggies to sustain us for a year. Whatever we grow I always freeze dry the excess.
During the fall we make our yearly trip to my wife’s family 17K acre farm / ranch in Montana (a 12 hour drive). We barter some of our freeze dried veggies and fruit for 1/2 a beef and a pig.

The care and dedication they put into their work resulted in a home that is STILL appraised higher than other homes of the same style simply for the thought they put into the process. It just goes to show that if you have a handful of individuals willing to put the time and effort into a project, you can turn up gold! Loving watching your work as it brings back fond memories!

You did such a great job. Shows the commitment and skills you put into it. I recently purchased a home where the previous owner was on drugs.. It is a very prestigious neighbor. I had an appraiser that appraised the home way more than what I purchased it for. So, I am starting out with great equity. The home was about to forclose. He let the house go, but I saw the potential in it. I am renovating the things that were not working properly in the home, i.e., new stove, leaks because gutters were compacted and filled with leaves, new concrete patch to fix basement leak coming from outside when it rained alot. I hired a professional to fix one of the bdrm flooring which sinks when you walk in a certain area, etc.. You motivate me. I'm currently reglazing the bathtub to refinish it. I want to say that the gabled porch was such a great idea. Personally, I would paint it underneath white or light color. It brightens it up underneath, yet some may like the original wood look is best. It is an amazing renovation you did. 👏

Great video! I watched strictly as entertainment. Your video was paced perfectly, really informative and very interesting. Love your attention to detail, thought processes and quality workmanship. You’ve clearly got a great work ethic and skills to match. As a woman in her mid 50’s I’m sure I’m not your target audience but it is just great content!
In my younger years, I worked with my husband to strip down the interior of a very old two story farmhouse. It was lathe and plaster with wood chips for insulation. We meticulously removed and kept all trim and doors and hardwood floors. We then lifted it off of its foundation, transported it about 2 hours away (via special semi truck) and had it placed on our augmented farm house foundation. We then Brought the interior up to code and did the entire interior and exterior rebuild all by ourselves, while parenting a 1 and 5 yr old. It was an adventure! Sweat equity cannot be valued enough imo. We’ve taken on many projects since then and I love the process start to finish.
Enough about me, you are doing a great job. New subscriber here. 🙂
