At first I thought the entire outer frame was drystone. But it looked like the mortar had all just crumbled away but the stones were stacked so well that it didn't come down anyway.

Hats off to the original builder(s) who laid every stone by hand AND the brilliant people who understood and preserved the beauty of this monument and the labor and memory of the first builder. Wish I was there to shake your hands.

Being Italian, I am so proud to see a modernized hybrid construction, that fuses new and old, carrying on the beautiful historic Italian stone build tradition!

Your home renovation is incredible! Such a huge amount of work, manual labor, working with torn stone. This is something unthinkable. It’s scary to imagine how much construction equipment cost in this region. I hope you enjoy your stay in this house. The views from the windows are gorgeous. Special thanks for the drone footage.

@@normareed9007 The house was a ruin and we saved everything we could, unfortunately that meant only four stone and clay walls :) The back wall, against the terrain, was close to collapse; the roof beams were eaten and basically reduced to dust; the inside separation walls... were taken down with a coffee spoon; etc until we got to a clean state from which to start working ☺

Restoration - use original shape and form, preferrably also methods to make look like new (this is usualy done on protected, historical buildings)
Renovation - is making look new, but bringing new forms, styles or methods during the process (most general building updates)
Rebuild - using the basic stucture, changing layout, changing structures, changing landscape etc.
What you are doing is a rebuild, but I am truly impressed at how many old-school methods are being used. Especially the floor aeration, you barely see that nowadays.
Great job, looking forward to see the end result!

There were cracks in the new installed wall blocks near the roofline already. They didn't show they replaced them, so they just bricked the cracked ones in? A little scarey. I'm only asking because Italy is very prone to earthquakes.

Is that concrete that was used for the walls and floor for the back? It looked real watery compared to the hand mixed concrete, which is more like I am used to seeing. But who am I to argue with the Italians on concrete. 😊 It is fascinating seeing construction projects from around the world. Here in the US, we are so accustomed to dimensioned lumber. Watching this, I wondered if the concrete beam could hold the load, but then you added some block support. I also wondered about the structural integrity of the original house itself, but it seems to have held up. Amazing that it's dong so well, essentially with the force of gravity to hold it together. Anyway, it's a beautiful rebuild, true to the look of the original. So much money and work went into it. The result is great. There are so many similar buildings like this in the Baltic nations in need of repair/rebuild. It's great to see how this can be done.

How good to see your journey and marvel again at the rebirth of this crumbled building that you have facilitated .I’ll bet quite a few people upon seeing you at the beginning were afraid for you. What idiots we have proven to be as you have gone from strength to strength never putting a foot wrong. May your life be as your rebuild is ,full of complete commitment and determination to build a strong invincible structure. That nothing you meet along your journey can be beyond your strength and ability to resolve ,and that you live your life with joy.❤

There are a lot of old buildings in Italy right now completely abandoned as a result of rapidly dying out population. Couple of years ago the Italian government put them on sale for 1 euro as long as you restore them within a given time limit. I seriously thought about it as a Cypriot, but I am alone to undertake such huge job and also I don't know Italian to get things moving. We have similar buildings here in Cyprus but they are not for sale for 1 euro as the grandchildren are still around who inherited them. I feel sorry for Italian population dying out. I feel affinity to the soil, architecture and the spirit. I hope more and more younger Italians restore their buildings and stop their culture dying. This is a huge topic to discuss here.

Beautiful, well done...I love to see how people build things in different countries. My hopes are, no earthquakes there for many decades, but I am sure you had to your show plans to the local municipal and get them ok'd for safety, etc. I am sure all the neighbors were very anxious to see the results of all the hard work.

My gosh you Italian's really know how to work hard. Great respect.
I recognise the excavator guy from another video build. I believe he is known as an expert excavator you can see why. Obviously sun protective clothing is not an option in Italy 😁.

I appreciate you guys for keeping the original look of the house I watched a lot of renovation houses and 80% of them change it to a modern house which looks not in place considering the other houses plus the old fashion houses looks way better

I love what you did. I wish for my house to have a stone on the outside as I find it extremely beautiful. Also I realised that by what you were doing you just gave the house the best possible weather isolation. Neither heat nor cold could get through a wall as thick as those. Also stone is the best possible long term material you could use. Bravi!!!
