Got a small leak on a A6 Allroad -16 3.0 TDI 218 ps, could this be the same problem? Refilled coolant 2 months ago and lost about half of the coolant from the reservoir
I had exactly this problem with my A6 Allroad. Luckily bought approved used from Audi so got it covered under extended warranty. However the service team at the local Audi service did something wrong and managed to detonate three of the six pistons almost blowing the head completely off. I wondered why the quick job was taking a little longer than expected. Eventually got the car back four months later but unfortunately lost all confidence in her so chopped it in for a 2016 Q7. Now experiencing exactly the same issue. Got a low coolant warning this morning and had to top up nearly a litre of coolant.

Hi. We never got the touareg 4.2 in the UK. We did however, get the Q7 4.2, so I assume they are similar. I've not seen that problem with the 4.2. You're problem could be a few things. I would be checking all your coolant pipes are getting hot. If you have a cold one then your problem is on that circuit. If you can't find a cold pipe, you need to start changing the WP and thermostat, and go from there.
Well, this is common for the previous 2gen diesels as well. But in the video it was not showed clearly the valley of the cylinder head. If this EGR cooler regulator leaks than the valley should be full of coolant first. From the video it was not possible to judge whether it is the case or not. It seems to be impossible to diagnose the leaking such a bad way by the previous shop, not checking the walley for coolant first.
This engine does not have the same EGR cooler problems as the previous generations. The setup in the valley of the engine is totally different to the older engines. I have now done about 10 of these end EVERY time, it has been this valve. So I can pretty much guarantee that if you have this leak on this generation of engine, the valve is the issue.
Hey. Thanks for the video. I have a leaking valve and Audi dealer is saying around 5 hours labour (€550 to repair) Is that about right or are they having me on?

Hi. I've not yet seen this problem on an A4. The is a similar valve in the A4 engine but I don't think it's quite the same design. It's probably best to change the valve and all the other seals while it's all stripped out to be sure.
