As a Mentor/Trainer there in your shop, I would first try to teach a way to loosen the water pump pulley bolts and utilize the belt as a holding tool if possible, maybe some pulleys are not very accessible for a pair of vise grips or another tool, Of course, we cannot teach every scenario on one video but I would have kept the belt on for the first attempt. I am sure your vise grip is not too tight but these types of pulleys are semi-easy to bend/break off the lip around the outer diameter. It's a risk I would not take or teach. I see you used a better method to tighten the pulley. Thank you for the easy DIY job on this specific Make Model Year Engine.
Pay attention to the pumps's screw material. If it is steel than 9nm torque is OK. If it is aluminium than you could use steel ones instead of or use NEW alu bolts with 4nm +90 degree torque. Never use the used alu bolts again, it will snap. Coolant refill: Pay attention to the proper fill in procedure. You finished the procedure when the engine is at operational temperature - thermostat is open - and the coolant is rock stable at about 90 celsius degree. If you have air in the system than you will not reach this temperature and the air heating will not work or the coolant temperature will fluctuate. Better to use vacuum at the fill procedure. Max temp and low fan on the air heater settings and run the motor at op temperature. Use the bleed screw at the top of the EGR cooler (if I remember right) to make sure no air on that part of the block. Good luck!
Brotha, thank you for uploading this with such detail and clarity. I have 2017 Q7 and i'm pretty confident I can do this now. Downside: I don't have the tools. Taking it to an indie shop locally. Hopefully it won't be too much.
This is a great video, thanks for sharing it. I am the same way, I have a 2018 Q7 3.0 but I dont seem to have as much space like he has on his pump. He didn't say if the bumper came off to get this space. What did the shop charge? Also, regarding troubleshooting I used an air pressure pump on the resevoir and it couldn't pressure up to the required 10 lbs. Not sure if that verifies the leak. But I could see traces of dried coolant below the pump.
Hi, I have a 2014 VW Touareg 3.0 TDI diesel. I have drained all of the coolant out in order to replace the thermostat. I also pulled the in line temperature sensor and shop vac'd out all the remaining coolant from there as well. My problem is that now I am trying to add the new coolant back into the system, and when I pull the vacuum, the pressure is not holding. Should I just simply add coolant to the reservoir and through the upper radiator hose as you have done in this video??
Hey i have a 2006 nissan altima 2.5s when i start the car and put it on drive it takes like 6 seconds to engage into drive but it will go reverse in one seconds and it does that when its cold, and it will also shift proper when im driving im not sure why
@kenderyalclemons7792 it sounds like there's a delay in the transmission engagement, I recommend you take it to a pro mechanic who can diagnose it for you!
Thank you for sharing your videos... I have a 2010 Ford Edge V6 3.5.. I replaced the cam position sensors, but the code is still showing... How can I reset the computer.. Thank you
I drive a 2017 Audi Q7 I had my check engine light come on and off within like 2 hours time. This happened 2-3 weeks ago.. I scanned it right when it happened and it came up with a code for “super charger sensor” then disappeared… Nothing noticeably different while driving what’s so ever.. but a day after the code popped up and went away I start hearing a weird clanking/grinding like noise only when idling, As if one of my pulley went bad. I tell this mechanic that looked at it yesterday exactly what I just explained right.. So he looks at it and tells me that my supercharger was the cause of the noise, as well as the supercharger pulley tensioner.. Last night I have another guy look at it and without even taking it apart he looks, listens and tells me within 10 mins that it’s my water pump pulley that is bad. He’s 1000% sure not my supercharger. He said I would’ve had black smoke coming from my exhaust , loss of power along with some type excessive whining; in which none of this I experienced.. In your experiences and from the sound of this situation ; what are your opinion’s on this? Every answer and/opinion is greatly appreciated and will save me a few strands of hair that I have left on my head
@jakeemlewis3451 it sounds like the second guy might be right, but it's hard to confirm without looking at the car, so I recommend you take it to a pro mechanic who can diagnose it properly!!

Do you remember what the tool was called and what the size was. For removing the water pump pulley. Thanks
@ernestgarza4133 these sockets are called triple square socket, the size I used is M10
Thanks
Is a new belt required when changing just the water pump?
@dagetto2006 No! Not at all!

@humbertoarellano8887 do you have a scan tool to clear the codes? and also if the code keeps coming back you might have a wiring issue!
Thank you
My scanner is an Actron auto scanner plus CP9180 I bought it at O'Rileys.. Do you think I can do it with this one
Your socket is a XZN 10mm socket or a triple square socket two name same product.
German car love torx, E-torx and triple square.
