Thank you Joseph! 😃 Yeah it really makes life harder (at least 2x harder) trying to do a video at the same time. But it's worth it if it helps fellow enthusiasts out.
You're an absolute gangster for this, THANK YOU. I wanted to clean out my intake, and I got to the point of having all the intake bolts out and couldn't get her out. You helped a ton. I hope I never have to do it, but at least I know how now!
Haha cheers, really glad it helped! They aren't that fun to work on these engines, unfortunately. I used oven cleaner to clean the intake out, it worked pretty well, see my next video on this topic if you're interested in seeing that.
G'day from Melbourne,Oz..just found your video after trawling youtube for info on my coolant leak..I have a 2015 VW Touareg with 175k kilometres (approx 108k miles) when my red coolant warning light came on..have lost coolant from the reservoir, and can see a small pool in the plastic dirt cover under the front of the engine,so not exactly sure where the leak is at this point. Will have to investigate further, but from what your video has shown,i feel confident to try and tackle this job. Many thanks for uploading this, mate. Gave it a like and subbed you 👍
Cheers David! It could quite well be the same issue, when the valley of the engine fills it can run down the front under braking for example. Hope you figure the issue out, I was topping mine up for a while but I think it's fixed now. 3rd video on this issue to come soon. 😃

Hello from the USA and thanks for posting this video! I've done three of these - two Q7's and one Q5, and it was somehow enjoyable to watch someone else struggle with getting that manifold out! I'll mention that the coolant bypass valve is known to leak at it's shaft. Even though it's expensive, it's worth it to replace "while you're in there". FCP Euro is also a great source for the parts to do this job. Audi dealers want $5k USD to do this. Cheers!
Haha you're a seasoned vet on these diesels then! Reassuring to know even you have a fight removing the manifold. You'll be glad to know I have a coolant bypass valve on the way, I wish I had changed that first time around but I wasn't aware of the way it could leak. I'm not that surprised dealers want 5k to fix a leak on these! 😆

The VAG V6 seems a tad more complicated to work on you think? Toying with the idea of buying a Cayenne as Ive been told they not too bad on reliability. Like you I do most if not all repairs myself and I do them right. How would you compare that with working on a BMW straight 6?
We do try hard to make these vids helpful and detailed for people so thank you! 😃 The way this VAG V6 TDI is packaged seems way less mechanic-friendly than I'm used to with older petrol BMWs. It seems to be laid out in a more chaotic way, everything is packed tight and tangled together. You feel like you're going to break things getting them in and out, but there's no other way it can go together. I'm used to working on older BMW E30, E36 and E46 where there's actually room to get your hands in to work without needing to strip everything down. 😆 If your E70 and E60 are 6-pot diesels you might be more familiar with this extra complexity and not as challenged as I was. I'm starting to gain a bit more confidence in working on it now, and things are pretty well documented about these 3.0 making jobs more doable DIY style. Hopefully that continues!
Great job buddy, that was well worth investigating the other potential issue areas whilst you were in there. Thorough wrenching that. Is the engine vibration what's causing the flange to snap? Is there an upgrade available? What a car though! Looking forward to more content on it.
Thanks pal, glad you enjoyed the vid. This VAG 3L TDI is far too intricately put together for its own good, no wonder they get valley leaks with the number of plastic parts and rubber seals... It might well be the vibrations causing the intermediate flange to snap actually. Mine definitely looks like it's been broken and leaking for a while. Really hoping that's the whole problem, it seems likely right now. I've seen billet replacements for them, but they seem to be only compatible with EGR deletes, and I've decided not to go down that route as I don't think it's allowed. 😅 I am planning to replace with another plastic one and hope it goes for another 130k miles!
@@SPANNERRASH There's a good chance there's been an amendment to the design, maybe a wider neck? Yes, EGR deletes are not allowed, which is a shame as the whole EGR system has added a whole bunch of issues to diesel engines. You can get them mapped out, and then you can blank them off. Good luck, hope the new part sorts it. It seems very likely it's the only source of the leak. Love the channel dude, absolutely no pretentiousness. 👍🏻

What happened to your engine hoist point that’s supposed to be near the EGR pipe? Looks like it’s missing in the video. I’m completely stuck trying to get my intake manifold around it, but the hoist point can’t be removed with the EGR cooler in place. Chicken and egg situation.
To be more specific, you can see the two bolt holes to the right of the EGR cooler outlet around the 12:56 mark where the hoist point is supposed to be attached.
That's really interesting, I just reviewed the footage and I can see where you mean. There was no hoist hook point there for me. Maybe its not supposed to be left in place, but added when you need to pull the engine. Saying that, I have the one firmly in place beside the oil filter housing held on by two triple-square bolts, I imagine just the same as would screw into those two vacant bolt holes. Do let me know if you figure that out, is your car also a Cayenne? Mine is a 2013.
