    I turned all of mine into liquid and pans and now are my only watercolor paint. I bought 15ml clear glass eye dropper bottles, labeled them, put the pastel in and filled with warm distilled water and overnight they liquefied. I then filled pans to dry. I used them so much more and now it's all I use.

      Wow! What a unique way to use Neocolors! I've never heard of this technique before, but it seems like a fun and economical way to extend the life your set. Thanks for the tip, Mary.

    I bought a 40-set of the Caran D'Ache after watching this video. I just love your painting, actually more than the crayons themselves. You make them sing, so much heart. I like the broken ones since I color with them on their sides. I actually broke and peeled a couple for "side coloring". I then colored with the rest of the broken crayon like an oil pastel. Thanks, Ginger, amazing talent.

      Hello my friend! Thanks Rae for visiting me. I'm always looking forward to reading your comments. Oh that spill! Truth is, I threw away the canvas out of frustration. After 2 whole days of hard work, the painting got decimated by a container of water! I'm just glad I went against my initial reaction and gave the painting another chance.

      I'm so thrilled you liked it Ottery St Chocolat. The water spill was an unexpected accident and honestly, I threw the canvas on the recycling pile out of frustration. I wanted to give up but had second thoughts and reworked it instead. I agree with you. The outcome does look dreamy. I wonder if we just ended up discovering a new art technique... paint roller sponge! haha

    Hi, what would you use for fixative on a Neocolor painting like this?

    • @GingerUmali
      @GingerUmali  3 года назад +2

      I use acrylic sealers or spray varnish for all my paintings. I prefer a gloss finish over matte or satin. Matte finish mutes the colors and lessens the brightness of your painting--an effect that is disappointing, in my opinion. When applying fixatives to water-based media like watercolor or pastels, be extra careful. Put one light spray only then let it dry, instead of heavy coats all at once. You want to prevent the liquid from running and destroying your painting. Grumbacher, Liquitex, Krylon, or Golden are reliable brands but they can be pricey. Sometimes I use Plaid or Aleene's which are cheaper, but use it only on work that I don't sell to my clients.

    What is the white pen you used towards the end? I was thinking about buying these over the Caran D’Ache pastel pencils.

    • @GingerUmali
      @GingerUmali  2 года назад +1

      Hi Robyn. Thanks for watching. I can't quite remember which pen I used for this particular painting. But for all my artwork, I only use two brands which are both a pleasure to use. One is Uni-Ball Signo and the other is Uni Posca paint markers. I highly recommend both of them. I work with multiple types of media and I find that these white pens can go over most of my supplies (watercolor, acrylic, colored pencils, inks, pastels, different types of paper, etc.) I hope that helps.

    • @GingerUmali
      @GingerUmali  2 года назад

      I forgot to add, those pens go well over gouache too, but not so much on top of oils. When using it over Neocolor, apply with a light hand. Don't scrape too heavily on the Caran D'Ache pigments since the crayon bits tend to clog the pen tip. It can easily be fixed just by wiping the pen occasionally with a paper towel. It's no big deal. The pen still does its job well. You just need a bit more patience with it.

    What paper do you recommend using for a beginner who wants to practice instead of using a canvas? I'm inspired by the painting and want to learn how to use this.

    • @GingerUmali
      @GingerUmali  2 года назад

      So sorry I didn't see your comment right away! Please pardon me for replying only now. I made a long video that discusses paper, like what is the best type to use for the kind of paint medium you have. You might learn a lot from this ... here's a quick link... ruclips.net/video/zHOlR4q18j8/видео.html
