I love that you’re “listening” to your hair. Some people continue to bulldoze through even when a regiment isn’t working for them.
And you can still go to the “black people” isle - even when you’re relaxed😂

Thank you for being honest about Olaplex. I figured out how to use Olaplex and still have soft moist here. 1st never put Olaplex on clean hair! Do an over night treatment with Mielle over night conditioner or Lush’s Jasmine & Henna fluff ease with a cap on. Next day pull the cap off and apoly Olaplex no 3 or no 5 (Olaplex conditioner) on top of your over night treatment. Keep the treatment on for 30 min then shampoo over night treatment and Olaplex out. After apply a super mosterizing mask like the mask from Amika soul food nourishing and sit under steamer or use face steamer to steam the conditioner in. Do not rinse the conditioner out. Style your hair from there and be sure to use a creamy styler and seal in the styler with grease. Use Olaplex only once a month.

As an olaplex certified stylist, olaplex is really for those who have broken disulfide bonds. Contrary to popular marketing, those bonds are only broken by chemicals. No chemicals, no need for olaplex. When styling hair with heat or water we are breaking hydrogen bonds. K18 addresses bonds and keratin chains that hold hair together and it’s structure. I know many will find this shocking, but it doesn’t change the facts . Disulfide bonds are not broken when styling hair, those are the strongest bonds in the hair, not even heat is affecting it. Marketing marketing marketing. Relaxed, perm, color etc olaplex is that girl. Heat styling, elasticity issues, breakage = deep condition and k18. From personal experience as well, olaplex provides no moisture whatsoever not even their conditioner and mask let alone their leave In. It serves its purpose for those that need it.

K18 is great while you use it but when you stop the reinforcement stops and then the "bonds" come apart and my experience is the hair is worse than prior to use. I will never use any bonding products ever again. I had waist length hair and loads of it and neither of these products helped my hair, quite the opposite.

@@KaizenTshego I use alot of the olaplex products on my hair (0, 3, 6, 7, 8).... theres no protein in no.3 but the drying brittleness could come from using the styling products (6 and 7) as from what I've heard, there are silicones in these. To reset your hair, try using a clarifying shampoo, follow up with your own moisturising shampoo and a moisturizing deep conditioner. The next wash day, reintroduce no.3, then wash out with your moisturising shampoo and deep conditioner again.... give the olaplex styling products a break (and any protein products you use).
When you go back to using the olaplex styling products, just factor in that every 3rd or 4th wash day, do a reset and use your clarifying shampoo to remove silicone build up so that you can start again 🙂😘

Okay so I also was natural for about 10 years and relaxed in February. The first relaxer was a disaster and I ended up needing a corrective relaxer, I had to change my relaxer AND my hair was dry asf. It was so bad if I touched my hair it would shed 😭😭 I actually got the Redken acid rebonding shampoo and conditioner. I also use the Miele rosemary mint deep conditioner. My second relaxer vs the first one there was a HUGE difference. The second time I used dark and lovely moisture plus relaxer, the Redken products and then also using the stuff that comes with the products. Those sachets that come with the dark and lovely package are the way, truth and the LIFE! They really got the moisture back into my hair and I also got the dark and lovely moisturiser, the one with the green strip. I think if you’re looking for moisture, step away from natural hair deep conditioners because I noticed that they say it’s for moisture but then they will have egg/mayonnaise or something like that… which is protein. So for me who’s issue was also protein overload and moisture, that was a no-no.
I’m very surprised that my hair likes dark and lovely so much because when I was relaxed 10 years ago, their moisturisers and relaxers used to be so drying for me. But I think these new formulas they have are really good.

Olaplex is a bond builder and bond repair-er. It's not a moisture treatment and it's not a protein treatment. I have been using Olaplex 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 for nearly a year now. I bought the kit on sale with #0,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 for about £130 and it is lasting the whole year. Olaplex # 1 and 2 I get applied at my Aveda Salon every 12 weeks when I get a trim. For reference, my hair is above shoulder length and I have ultra-dry, ultra-fine, high porosity, high-density type 4c pen spring coils. My hair is natural without relaxer or colour. It is however weak due to genetics, health, medication, ageing ( I'm age 40) and midlife stress. I use shampoo every week because I have developed a sensitve scalp in my 30s. I moisturise my hair daily; once in the morning with a mist leave in conditioner and once at night with a cream leave in conditioner. These leave ins do not have oils or butters or silicone in the first 5 ingredients. Here is my weekly regiment for my hair type:
Week 1: Clarifying and Chelating Shampoo, Strong hard Protein Treatment, Protein-free deep conditioner for 30 mins with heat. Olaplex 6 and 7 with my regular leave ins
Week 2: Moisture shampoo, Scalp Shampoo, Olaplex Shampoo. "Ethnic" deep conditioner for dry hair. usually Cantu or Shea Moisture. mixed with the Olaplex #5 and 8
Week 3: Olapex #0,3,4,5,6,7 and 8. Mix Olaplex #5 and 8 with Cantu or Shea Moisture for dry hair
Week 4: Protein shampoo, Scalp shampoo, Olaplex shampoo. Protein deep conditioner mixed with Olaplex #5 and 8
week 5: Moisture shampoo, Scalp Shampoo, Olaplex Shampoo. Protein-free deep conditioner mixed with Olaplex #5 and 8 and my deep conditioners from my trichologists. My trichologists make a clay mask and a scalp mask with silk protein. Silk protein is a gentle protein.
Week 6: Back to week 1 and dust ends.
Week 12: Olaplex 1 and 2 at the Salon and a straight trim.
Note I modify this depending on how my hair is behaving but I am always careful to balance the protein, moisture and bond treatments. Some people need less protein than me and more moisture. Damaged or weak hair like mine needs both. If you hair is dry try to give it more moisture than protein. You need to read the back of the labels to see what protein is in the product. Keratin is a very strong protein and if it is in the first 5 ingredients, it's going to be a harsh product. Wheat protein and silk amino acids are weaker proteins and if they are at the bottom of the ingredients list it will be a more gentle protein product. Oils and butters help with the feel of the hair but they do not penetrate well into the inner part of the hair strand and do not hold on to moisture. Fatty Alcohols and Humectants are better conditioning ingredients. Good luck.

@@sylviaruth5008 You can mix them together but it's not necessary. I mix them together with no 3 in my deep conditioner currently as I now have colour/bleach. It shortens my wash day and I don't have to spend hours doing my hair. I'm not planning to re-colour/bleach my hair this year so I will only use no. 3 ...plus my usually salon application 3 to 4 times a year. No.3 Once every 4 weeks is enough for me without the colour or bleach in my hair. Oh I can use no.3 every week added to my deep conditioner.

Gosh, that’s a bummer. I don’t hear a lot of people who had problems with Olaplex mentioning the silicone build-up aspect of it. In addition to moisturizing your ends (with products free from silicone and protein), you may need to clarify them (?). My hair is texlaxed and waist length. I had it colored 3 times in 3 months, and needless to say, my texlax touchup (2 months later) had my hair falling out in clumps (my fault, I know). I literally lost half the hair on my head. I didn't want to start over so I invested in the entire olaplex system. After using it, my hair continued to shed like a dog, and not only that, the hair I have remaining feels like straw and tangles BAD when I shampoo. I've tried to use olaplex on several occasions hoping for the best with no improvement. My hair is usually very soft and silky, even after the initial damage, but olaplex has me wanting to just cut it all off and start over. I actually think creme of nature's plex system might be better. I've used it in the past and have seen better results.

My advice is to start with the 0 and 3 see how it does your hair, then try the trial sizes of the other products.

Hi there, thanks for the great content as always. Just wanted to point out that some Olaplex products contain protein, which is something to keep in mind if you are using their products on a weekly or more frequent basis. The amounts of protein are minimal, but still something to keep in mind as protein overload could happen so perhaps staggering the use of the products could be the solution.

I purchased the entire Olaplex thinking I would be using something good for my hair. I would use the products after wearing weave or braids. My hair never had the shine or moisture I felt it should hve and I also had fairy knots and some breakage. I would run the flatiron over my hair many times to take the knots and crunch from my ends on 410 degrees. I attributed this all to being natural. I decided to switch products, not using anything from Olaplex except #9. I washed with Cantù (not the best) and followed up with Bondi products. My hair is back to being shiny, bouncy, no fairy knots and my hair straightens with one pass on 365 degrees. I don’t know what’s in Olaplex, but it’s not good for my hair. I’m going to try and replace #9 serum with another.

While I know there is no protein in the product I have protein sensitive hair and there is definitely at least something in this product that caused my breakage... After I quit the olaplex within the time of 2 weeks I noticed I had a fraction of the hair fall/breakage than I did when I was using olaplex... So idk... When there are so many people using the product that claim it's damaging, how can you say it's not the product? Honestly I threw it in the trash...

Olaplex isnt a protein treatment. I don't think olaplex caused this but the two Keratin products you were using. Especially if you used them in conjunction and too frequently. You correctly said you had protein overload. After protein treatments you need to hydrate and moisturize your hair. Try doing overnight masks, they will help a lot! Good luck. Nonetheless your hair looks great and I love your accent 😇. Also for your relaxed hair you don't need a specific brand for chemically treated hair, you just need to find products that can hydrate, moisturize and of course add protein (when needed) to your hair because your hair is weaker once you chemically treat it so you'd just need to care for it more often. I typed too much. I'm done now lol 😆 .

Hi David, I didn’t use the keratin products in conjunction with Olaplex but on different wash days, this is how I know olaplex is the issue. I’ve used Tresemme for a quite a long time and I know it cannot be that as my hair is quite familiar with the product and it’s never left my hair feeling extremely dry. I used the Ogx product once and separate to the olaplex as well. It’s likely that I experienced protein overload but the fundamental problem started with Olaplex as I used that many more times than these other products.

No.3 is fine to continue using but 6 and 7 will cause silicone build up that's coating your strands with a protective layer that will repel water and moisture! Dont use 6 and 7 as often and when you do, only use a tiny amount on mid lengths to ends. Purchase a clarifying shampoo and use this every so often to completely remove the build up of 6 and 7 and make sure your balancing moisture / protein as to your hairs porosity... this should be a game changer as it was for me when I noticed the styling products was the cause of my dryness! 🙂

Skip shampoo enough times and you will develop scalp problems. See the Devacurl and Ren lawsuits. Skip deep conditioner and you will wonder why your hair is dry and/or breaking. My hair is natural type 4c. I would never skip deep conditioner. I deep condition weekly. I have a sensitive scalp and I have to shampoo weekly. I just use a moisturising shampoo such as Creme of Nature or the shampoo from my Trichologists which is a specially formulated gentle sulfate. I Co-wash when I go swimming daily.

The molecules in regular rinse out conditioner are not small enough to penetrate and also it need to stay on for minimum 15 minutes with heat to penetrate.

No 7 bonding oil is great but, please please be aware it contains silicones and should only be used sparingly on the mid to ends of your hair (not anywhere near the scalp!).... silicones are water/ moisture repellant so also consider buying a clarifying/ detox shampoo so that way, you can wash away any build up every few washes.... if you dont, you too may also experience dry/ brittleness or even breakage of you're not careful! The brand Ouai does an excellent detox shampoo that I've incorporated into a wash routine with olaplex and it has done my natural hair the world of good! 🙂

@@mzdutchpot848 yeah I use 3 drops of the oil on the ends a week, shampoo weekly, and clarify and chelate every 6 weeks. No adverse effects from the silicones. I definitely do not use silicones every day. That's a recipe for disaster.

Hiiii, How do you moisturise your scalp on a daily bases besides on wash-day ? Do you base it with an oil/cream /hair food and what do you base it with?

    • @sapphirehaircare
      @sapphirehaircare 2 года назад +2

You can use a moisturizer.. Oils are not a moisturizer they are lubricant for lubricant for the scalp and hair to add sheen.. It a hair moisturizer to moisturize your scalp and your hair I don't think it's necessary to moisturize your scalp on a daily basis unless you just have dry scalp.🥰

Hey! I do not moisturize my relaxed hair as it weighs it down. I have been using the morocanoil as a pre poo and it’s working beautifully. The as I am scalp treatment has also been great for my scalp and the hydration elation is absolutely amazing! I did an overnight treatment with it and the morocanoil and then cowashed with the scalp care. My hair and scalp love this routine. I did find that after the wash day my hair was a bit weighed down because I did not use shampoo so not all the oil got washed out but it wasn’t too bad.

Ola Plex is not it! I have a young adult daughter who is biracial and she has 3C/3B hair. The more we use the Ola Plex the worse it got. Her stylist at the shop would use it after she would go blonde and it just became drier and drier and then we use the at home products until her hair fell out. I went old school and started greasing her scalp and washing every 10 days and using a Kemet Biologics and curls blueberry leave in conditioner. Her hair has come back so long and strong the people are like what did you do to grow her hair? Again, greasing the scalp which is what we did back in the day. No longer using Ola Plex and will never use it again
