@@anangryblooddk7966 True, the grind in War Thunder is extreme.
Let's just say in World of Tanks, I can easily grind Tier V and Tier VI and its modification (in WT, it's equal to Rank III/IV) in a rather short time. But beyond that, it's pain but manageable. In WT, It takes a long time just to grind a single tanks and its modification and it's probably takes even longer just to reach Rank III and IV even with booster. Good luck trying to reach the Top Tier as well in WT lol.
But eh, both games are fun on its own especially in the middle tier.

Nobody ever mentions the advantage older players have with maxed crews. I was getting smoked constantly in ASB because my pilot was blacking out matching my opponents turn rate. Now it's much better with higher stats.

    • @thisisnotaname4960
      @thisisnotaname4960 9 месяцев назад +5

TBH crew level doesn't matter that much in air, and only in rather niche situations on ground.
The following explanation is spoken from the view of a 9000-hour player (I'm not particularly good at the game, to note) with nearly all air trees at non-premium top tier (US, Ger, USSR, UK, Jp, It, Fr, Sw, Is) and two ground trees at non-premium top tier (US, USSR).
To make things clear, in Arcade (any mode) 3 skill points is earned every 100 rp gained, while for Realistic and Simulator it is 1 skill point every 100 rp.
For air, on fighters, the only crew skills that matter in a dogfight are G-tolerance and stamina. These skills do provide an edge in a dogfight (one-circle or two-circle fight) for rate-fighting or scissoring, where you basically keep turning and try to get lead (to aim ahead of your opponent through fancy maneuvers, to over-simplify it). However, there is an easy counter by just tapping nose down in a continuously nose-up fight, to counter pilot black-out, which abuses the G-LOC (G-force induced Lost Of Consciousness, or blacking out) mechanic in WT.
From experience in grinding of multiple air trees, if you focus on one single crew (designate an air crew, it will help you focus your crew skills and not waste useless points) by the time you reach higher tier jets with full G-tolerance. Although being a player with purchased premium vehicles, I don't buy aced crews, I gained my ace crew on my F-14A and F-14B by playing, which costs around 1M RP (yeah it's a hell lot and if you're not particularly good at it, it would take a few weeks of casual playing), but the actual difference between maxed and expert / aced crews are not significant enough to be of priority.
For ground, crew skills would matter mainly on the loader's weapon loading skill, if you only care about the "unfair advantage" point in a gunfight, which is actually a very niche situation (although Gaijin is still an asshole to make crew skill advantages grind-locked for new players) To explain the reload rate difference situation due to crew skill, assuming the same gun, the following gunfight must occur to make a difference. You shoot at enemy, non-pen or doesn't kill the enemy loader or disables the gun. Enemy shoots at you, same applies. You shoot at enemy, in a short enough distance (taking shell velocity into account), your shell kills the enemy loader, disables the gun, or kills the tank before the enemy could fire their second shot while your shell is flying.
The actual reload rate difference in lower BRs consists of many types of guns, which have reload speeds varying too much that the crew skill do not actually make a difference. For example, an IS-2 would have a stock 27.04 second reload, and an aced 20.8 second reload. The only tank that you can fire a shot and having an aced crew would help you win in the aforementioned niche situation, is when you face a Chinese IS-2. If the IS-2 example is too absurd for its long reload, you can take a 76 sherman for this example, with stock reload at 7.67 and aced reload at 5.9. The only few niche situations reload skill would matter is when it faces a T-34-57 in that particular example, with aced sherman reload at 5.9 and T-34-57 stock reload at 6.5.
So, in a short conclusion, reload rate doesn't matter that much at lower tiers, while at higher tiers it wouldn't matter as well because crew XP is earned from RP reward, which, if you focused on a few crew slots you have maxed out reload rate, if you hadn't experted or aced your favorite tanks.
For those players that buy to premium top tier... this is exactly why you will suffer. You lack experience, lack map knowledge, lack game knowledge, lack crew skills, and lack game skills. Even if you do get into such a situation in top tier, more often than not, one side will disable the cannon of another side to prevent the reload-rate game commencing, as most tanks only have kill shots in their turret necks, which is right below the gun. And half of the tanks in game have auto-loaders, while the other half use the same Rh120, so these niche situations happen extremely rarely, and the chances of it mattering to a player is much lower than an inexperienced player getting themselves killed with other stupid reasons.
To conclude, crew skill matters at higher tier, but not that much. But if you are at a high tier, and you grinded it out without buying to top tier, you would have a decently experienced crew to handle the high tier combat needs.

    • @thisisnotaname4960
      @thisisnotaname4960 9 месяцев назад +4

To add to the reload-game theory for crew skill difference on the same gun platform firing at each other, you can prevent the enemy from having an effective second shot by simply angling your tank (on some heavies), going hull-down, or popping in and out of cover. And this situation only applies in short ranges, no matter the tier.
For example, two Rh120 (all Leopard 120mm, all Abrams 120mm, Ariete 120mm) fire at each other, the maxed crew reload would be 6.9, with aced at 6.0 (assuming the player would have at least maxed reload by grinding from rank 1 to rank 7), the difference in reload time would be at most 0.9, assuming a simultaneous first-shot from both tanks. With APFSDS flying at around 1500m/s, any combat outside of 1.5km (common on many large maps), both tanks would get their second shot out before one of them died, albelt having the slower reload.
In a real situation, if you fire a first shot, it usually takes more than a second or two for the enemy to notice and fire back their first shot, therefore the reload rate would hardly matter in any situation.

One thing to note for new players (myself included) DO NOT let yourself fall into the idea that playing the game (actually having a match) is only there for you to earn points towards a new vehicle. The actual match is the gameplay with the added benefit of giving you points. Not the other way around. Getting a new vehicle isn't the game. Playing against other people in a match is. That's the whole point, to fight vehicle to vehicle in realistic battles. Remember that, and the game becomes a lot funner.

This means that if somebody decides to make a realistic vehicle-war simulator game similar to war thunder that is balanced and NOT full of microtransactions to get ahead of others in a game for money, then WT would likely collapse as this new game would literally be very friendly to all its players and would literally be a superior option to WT better in almost every way. • @unlockingsnow8571
      @unlockingsnow8571 Год назад +18

@@kalistaredacted2808 you're forgetting about the feasibility of that to build or code a game solo to as in depth as WT, you're gonna spend years modelling stuff, coding game mechanics and graphics. That's before you start adding up licensing costs, wages cost for other devs, you can make a game like war thunder solo.
And that's all while not making an income.
I've seen similar things for rainbow six siege, people didn't like the new changes so they tried to make a knock off, it's cool don't get me wrong but is no where near a competitor.
Now if a major company tries to do something like you suggest, then it will be same shit different smell, for exmaple let's say EA gives it a crack.
Realistically to make this happen you gotta hope Elon Musk is feeling like it on a day off and assembles a team of funded game devs to tackle such a game. And if that did happen...do you think they'd clone war thunder? Or something more successful like COD, LoL or Dota 2.

As a veteran player I have very little to add, other than, and others have also said it, play to have fun in the first place. Advancing in the tech trees comes second.
I've found some vehicles in certain BRs that I enjoy playing and do well enough in that I can complete daily tasks to complete the Battle Pass every season. I also agree with the "burning out" aspect when trying to earn everything. Sometimes I'm tempted to earn a plane and am able to do so, but otherwise I stick to only earning ships, since I basically only play naval, and only occassionally play ground. This way I can keep my sanity and prevent myself from burning out of the game again.

    • @impatientpatient8270

man. playing naval is fun but those wait times are at times maddening and the time before you actually get in to action when you spawn a blue-water ship... actually measurable in geological time. i mostly play ground RB and air arcade but i like ships too, naval is actually more fun than the other two modes for me, with me being able to reliably get at least a couple of kill every game as opposed to getting sniped before you even get the the enemy by that one light tank that zooms over deep in to your side of map in the first one or two minutes of the match, respawn, get bombed before you even roll out of the spawn and return to hangar for 3 games before getting matched against a team of blind penguins driving tanks and getting 8 kill 2 assists and a capture of a point. i find ground RB just way too inconsistent in the quality of players, but on the other hand it's kind of exciting to just play against other players to see the differences skill and playtime makes. also funny to see that one guy with 16 kills and no deaths and the rest of the team sitting around 0 to 3 kills and several deaths each in a team that is somehow still winning

I’m more of a plane player and I play P-51s, P-47s, P-38s, Bf-109s, FW-190s, Spitfires, Zeros, and more. I’ve started to grind to teir 5, (I have one t5) and it’s fun, since the Korean War is interesting, but honestly I have no desire to play top teir and I think the game is more fun that way.

    my tips are:
    1. dont treat the game as f2p, treat it as a sub game for ~4$ a month, with a free trial till rank 3
    2. NEVER buy anything outside of sales, except season pass and Golden Eagles
    3. play what mode and vehicles you enjoy, but dont play only to get to a certain vehicle (at least anything later than ww2)
the game is more for people who like combat vehicles in general, if you grind for 100 hours for the one vehicle you love and dont care about the others on the way, the chances are high your vehicle just sucks in the meta or it doesnt perform very well due to other reasons and you feel terrible
    4. dont get discouraged when you get stomped in Rank 1 right when you start, sadly a lot of people are noob stomping there with really unfair vehicles (1.0-2.0 BR). matches arin my experience easiest around 2.3 to 4.0 br, so try playing there when you start out

Even if it performs well, they may nerf it, break it accidentally, make it unaffordable to repair, increase its battle rating, wreck an enjoyable lineup around it or introduce new mechanics or opposing vehicles that negatively impact your enjoyment of it. Think of War Thunder as a vehicle combat game with the understanding that you need to be flexible and play whatever the flavor of the month is - or - accept the potential of being an outclassed underdog.

The core problem in this game is the economy, economy directly influences the grind and a persons capability of progression, which is the main goal in the game. The main reason i hear why people leave and stop playing is because of the grind being so slow and the necessity to spend if you want to actually progress. The problem is further exaggerated when Gaijin keep strangling that economy more and more. I remember a time where a good match in RB would net 80-100k RP and 300k lions. Was that too much? absolutely, but NOW? a good match of 8+ ground anhd air kills and a couple of captures will net you around 15k RP and 100k lions WITH premium. A couple months ago that same match would pull that for a free player, and thats where i would have left it, but nope, Gaijin have their heads so far up their gold plated arseholes that they dont understand that making the grind harder drives people away.

The fact that you can actually test drive EVERY vehicle in the game on a proper training map has always been a HUGE bonus that separates War Thunder from "the other tank game". Being able to do this with premium tanks especially lets you get a feel for them before you purchase (at least if they're in the tech tree). The training map itself is amazing since it gives you a wide variety of different ground vehicles to practice on which respawn. I've always hated that you can't even do that in the "other tank game" unless you join a training room with at least one other person (and even then you just get an empty map).

In start its still preatty easy, when reat of player base so bad, when you level one, but then the higher tier you get to the better players start to be and the harder it gets, so you need smartly manuver around with good tank and know always the spot from other tanks where it penetrates through to kill the crew of the tank that you can kill the tank as whole and then you always need to use the map to know where the enemies are, so you can come from the side or from behind to get some easy kills, while you still can sometimes lose the game, while being one of best in your team, when your team still overall so much worse, while you got so many kills.

I have played both the World of War games and warthunder off and on and am always drawn back to warthunder because it's everything I want in a game but the way it is ran with the snails pace progression, extremely high price for anything that will remotely make the progression faster, and the greedy nickel and diming for everything really makes me hate the game. If they actually made a reasonable earning/progression, fixed the BR matching, fostered true team play, and actually valued/listened to there player base then this would be the only game I'd ever need. Hopefully another game with rise up eventually that will do this type of game and its players justice.

I believe you can already evidence this by player count and newer titles nerfing grind making vehicles easier to obtain..it can be noted that the titles being focused as a multiplayer competitive online changes things a bit..fair enough it should be harder to get items..but to the point of several years to obtain top gear is tedious and devs are adjusting to compete...

Air arcade is a blast. I don't understand why people hate it, it's not much easier than RB, it's faster paced, and while don't earn as much, you lose far less for dying, and the matches are so chaotic that even if you do die, it's still fun to watch, and take part in, a massive furballs. And as an added bonus, there's some actual variety in mission type, unlike RB. While Realistic is something I play far more often, arcade is perfect of taking a break and messing around.

The best way for a new player to play the game is to play a few arcade matches, then once they have around 3.7 BR vehicles, get some premium time, a month or so, and just play the stuff they like and unlock all of the vehicles in rank 3. Then when their premium expires, they should have a little nest egg of silver lions and can just play anything they want forever in ranks 2-3.
The absolute worst way to play is to set your sights on some iconic rank 6 or 7 vehicle and try to powergrind to it. You'll have no fun, get super frustrated by every bad match that doesn't contribute to efficient grinding, and blast out a couple thousand hours of angry work/playtime before you can even test drive the vehicle.
There's a reason the most veteran players say low tier is best tier. It is. 6.0 or 6.3 is about the highest BR you can go and still be in the fun range, but the sweet spot is 4.0 and below. It's a blast, every time.

What I personally would recommend for any new player: Grind horizontally, not vertically. Example: I've always been having issues competing at top-tier air-rb. But when I started spading my tier 5 and 6 vehicles, I acquiered a lot of the necessary skills necessary to be effective at those battle ratings. I have over 2000 hours, yet I'm still learning new tricks, new small caviats every match. And it's important to understand the basics before going to more advanced stuff and what may be advanced for a certain tier might be counted as basic for the next tier of gameplay, such as the correct use of flares, which is rather advanced knowledge at tier 6, since most planes lack flares but is absolutely crucial for tier 7. It also adds to what is mentioned in the video: I am against newbies getting top tier vehicles, not because I don't want them to have fun or tell them what to do, but because experience is necessary to make this game enjoyable. As a last addition I would like to point out, that new players should at least try the different nations to get a feel for them. I play pretty much all major nations to a similar degree, meaning for example, I know what it's like to face an IS-2 as a Tiger 1, meaning I can use my experience as a Tiger 1 to know its strenghts and weaknesses when I'm fighting it in my IS-2. That also helps with a lot of the "cheaters" that you encounter or the prejudices you might have towards certain vehicles. Like "oh this tank is really op, because it can kill me so easily" but if you have experience in said tank, you might appreciate the skill of the player that killed you a bit more, if you have played the vehicle that killed you yourself and recognise its quirks and how to exploit them. What I'm saying is, don't get tunnelvisioned on one nation or one tech tree, enjoy and try to comprehend the full spectrum of vehicles on offer as it will benefit you by giving you overall experience but very situational experience as well.

It wasn't until I started grinding the Beaughfighters and Typhoons did I learn how less maneuverable planes can fight. Only then did I finally put it all together and figured out how to use the Spitfires strengths to my advantage and how to overcome its weaknesses. Having thorough knowledge of the capabilities of your enemy plane is just as important as knowing the capabilities of your own plane.
And then I started grinding the German tech tree and never touched the Spitfires again. Lol. They are great planes, but I quickly learned that boom n zoom and energy fighting was where my strengths were at. Turnfighting in undergunned Spitfires was not my thing.

Great points. For me, I started playing War Thunder in 2016ish. At the time, many of these applied to me, sans whaling on a top tier jet or something. Out of frustration, and getting distracted by a new PS4, I stopped playing for years.
This last year, I've finally got back into it. I have been learning so much more than I had ever learned before, and for the first time ever, I spent money on the game, and some of your points, and points other content creators have made, helped me finally find a way to enjoy this game more sustainably.
First, I never had much interest in any of the high tier stuff. I just wanted to play my WWII tanks and planes and call it good, and while that's still probably my main area of interest, the addition of the MiG 29 made it clear that my primary tree is going to be Russia, because if (or more likely when) the Su-27 is added, the closer I am to it the better.
So despite just now breaking into tier 3 vehicles, I purchased a tier 4 premium, the Yak-3 VK109. I did this because it's a well rounded energy fighter that can help me learn the ropes in a tier where many of the players understand some of the basics of energy fighting, and I'm already familiar with the general flight characteristics of the common Yak fighter airframe. I used a chunk of my remaining GE to upgrade my crew to a suitable level for the plane (and obviously those below it) and I'll leave the rest for other things.
But... as of writing this, I'd already put 260 hours into the game. I'm not sure I could have brought myself to spend almost $70 (disregarding what was left of the Christmas money in my Steam wallet) had I not done so in a FTP game.
More important than any of that though is I'm finally emotionally mature enough to just stop playing the game when I'm not having fun, I can thank the new CoD for that. Hearing frustrated teammates screaming over their mic because they can't stop themselves from playing even though they've long stopped having fun is a great reminder that hey, I can stop playing whenever I want.

Started playing this game just a few months back. Initially I hope to play with an A7 attacker for several personal reasons but I figured out it would be really hard to get that pretty early. But in any case, playing those Air RB or arcade is awesome. The feeling of flying in your P63 or my most favorite so far, the P39N0, and engaging in a one to one dogfight is unparalleled! That feeling when it's you against another player of the world, another human, and you both fight to survive! Lost many such fights, and won many so far, and each time it's like its first time! So I forgot the initial plan and I just enjoy those mental moments being in a live online game! And the other great plus for me is eventually learning the history behind these planes and how they came to be. All in all I like this game, the only bad for me is the time it costs me. At some point I plan to spend some money on it just out of respect for the developers because I'm not interested in any special planes as I don't see any meaningful advantage to any of them yet, I've shot down some specials of them and it's all a matter of luck and whits. Keep an eye on surroundings, on your speed and altitude, judge your opponents intentions and such, all this makes the game cool! Time to go, see you in the skies!
Update on May 2023: still haven't spend a dime in the game. Just about to get my first jet aircraft, but it doesn't matter as i usually play my Catalina, luring fighters and gunning them down! This game is awesome, and still no hint of any hackers around!

I started playing about a month and a half ago. Personally I’m a hyper-focused and near obsessive grinder in video games and I’m fine playing this game. My first tree was the German tree and I bought the King tiger pack when I realized I was gonna stick around and because I think King Tigers are cool. I played a bunch of matches with it as my only vehicle but also brought in backups so I wouldn’t just leave after one death but had the option to if the match aggravated me. I’m now in Tier VI Germany and I have fun playing all of the BRs.
I started France quite soon after I started playing because I quickly passed my friends’ (who have played the game longer but play ALL factions) low BR and I really enjoyed the French tech tree. I liked the Amx Super and grabbed it much like the King Tiger after watching tons of videos saying to be careful. I found I liked the play style of top tier and although I died a lot and burned a lot of backups, I had fun and learned a lot. While climbing the French tree I consistently did well and again I’ve caught up to my Amx Super’s BR while my friends are still at a low BR. My next target is Sweden and I’m not at all close to burning out of this game.

One of the key things in enjoying War Thunder is getting to know your vehicles. There is a lot of in depth modeling done, learn engine management, move from arcade into more realistic modes and you will find that even the beginner or even reserve vehicles have a lot to offer, especially in airplanes. Coming from the old IL2 1946 days, war thunder has so much more content and things to do than even the best flight sims from the older eras, even in early levels. Getting new planes if fun, but dont set it as your ultimate goal, or you will probably not enjoy the game too much.

With 4 years of playing, I've somewhat completed Germany and US tech trees while Japan is up to 8.7, Soviets I have up to 9.3 and British up to 8.7, grinding up to top tier takes a very long time without premium vehicles and premium time, I finished Germany within a week or 2 and not every vehicle has been fully spaded (unlock all their modifications) either way top tier technically has no skill since most shells are able to go through so much armor. Lower tiers/ranks like 3-4 is more fun because it tends to be more balanced. The purchasable vehicles should require some level so that players would have some experience before even getting a top tier premium. Top tier and meta changes have ruined some aspects of the game i.e. Heavy tanks from 6.0+ due to the shells in-game. Overall these passed 4 years has been long and now I only login and play a few matches now, but I still play because it is still fun to play with people or just soloing matches.

Then my PS4 broke, I stopped playing and recently decided to install it on my Xbox and start from the beginning. In all I've put a lot of time into this game.
The learning curve can be pretty steep for new players I think but taking it a br at a time really helps to decompress the different play styles of each rank, learning the maps and vehicles to improve (and it helps that you see the same type of vehicle for multiple brs like pzIII, M3 Stuart, Valentine, etc). The game has its flaws, sure, but it's still amazing

My tips for beginners(for all modes and vehicle types):
Don’t even set your sights on a single tech tree, let alone a single vehicle. Research and play all tech trees(or at least all the major ones) up until rank 3, then decide on a specific nation to main. This way you learn the strengths and weaknesses of all the vehicles way faster. So when you meet a vehicle as an enemy, you will know what to do.
War Thunder is a serious learner’s game. The in-game tutorials are useless so watching RUclips tutorials and practicing using custom battles are a must if you want to become anything more than just cannon fodder. Just be careful about outdated content on RUclips.
Finally, don’t be afraid to try naval. Half the people who talk trash about naval have either never played it or have played less than 100 matches with only reserve vehicles. You never know if naval might be your thing or not. I personally like playing naval as the slower pace fits my style. Just really try it, watching tutorials and practicing and all.

Another set of tips to keep in mind, hopping back to lower brs and other nations can allow you to minimize your losses. Personally I like 4.3-5.3 as a grind br. I haven't really spent any money on this game, if anything, my purchases are easily under $50. Don't let the game get to you, although treating everything as a "feature" may not make everything better, enjoy the little things and also remember that there's mods which you can easily get in the game client side, be it sound mods, user skins, sights, or custom missions. The WT community is a dedicated space when it comes to the modders, with new stuff added and old stuff updated everyday. And if you ever need mindless almost harmless fun, try the custom matches, someone is sure to have a sort of silly server. Or ask some of the small streamers playing WT, they'll likely have some way to allow you to join them on stream and you can feel like a celebrity.

Also note. Sometimes matchmaking will be kind to you, other times it will not. Last weekend I had a day where I averaged about 4 kills a game with the peak being 9 kills. Today I got savagely beaten down in every single match I played. Over 5 games I got 3 kills. That was sign enough for me to put it down for the day.

I dont get past of Tier IV because when i get to the last tank or Aircraft of tier IV i go on onto another nation to grind tbh , i love the charm of WW2 vehicles , the only nation in which i got to top tier is the U.S but i dont play to much with those top tier tanks

Main thing is you need to get controls set up right,Took a while to get targeting radar and selecting Target lock.Ground and air.I spent hours setting up,then after an update it gets thrown back to default.High tier have a lot of controls to bind up to get full use.Knowing suspension settings can make a MBT 70 sneaky, get the full use of the vehicle.

Personally, in my experience with the german air tree, I like the speed of the grind, because it's not unreasonable, and since I'm always learning about how to better fly those planes, it gets more and more fun. Also, I normally limit my weekday playtime to an hour and a half at most, with a 3 hour session on either Saturday or Sunday, and a single for a detox
