    There were always bad exotic armors. Now the list has grown, esp. since it's been a while since we got a major overhaul for exotic armors, and *especially* since most of them weren't designed around elements 3.0 . Imo if bungie didn't add new exotics for a season or two and instead reworked old ones to be effective, it might as well be new.

      If bungie stoped adding new ones period then power creep wouldn’t happen. Here’s the thing I believe that no matter what power creep will happen, as long as the game is being updated all they can do is being old exotic up to par again, there not one game I’ve ever seen be able to do better because there’s not really a way.

    I’d prefer old/under-used exotics being reworked each season rather than new ones being added purely for the sake of it. Not everything has to be super meta or OP but the quality of new exotics varies so wildly between meta defining or just plainly terrible. Let’s show some love to some older exotics.

      When I'm running Void, I also add Reactive Pulse for an overshield during the finisher animation (the secondary perk, Finisher Bulwark, is what you're looking for here), and Echo of Obscurity to go invisible when the finisher is done. So many times my keister has been saved by popping a finisher, getting the overshield, making everything dizzy, going invisible, and getting the hell out of there. It doesn't even require any ability energy like a Rift; just get the nearest add down to a quarter health and click your stick. Also works wonders in the middle of a Gambit front.

      Should make it so that for 18 seconds after casting rift, your rift ability will be replaced with a blast wave that knocks back enemies, make it deal 120 to guardians, deal damage based on subclass your using, it would be both a counter and aid to apes, but that would also make it a easy swap and use exotic which I think Bungie wants to get away from.

    Don’t mean to correct you but Void Weaken makes targets receive 15% more damage and Felwinter’s weaken makes targets receive 30% more damage. Merciless or an auto shotty with the grasps cut down my downtime significantly and would lead to me being able to run over and help my friend finish theirs off. Khepri's probably lost the hardest from the removal of Heart of Pack and Combat Provision and it not fully continuing on to Void 3.0 Hunter.
      It wasn't some big hyper meta pick but the "on demand wall hacks" builds on Bottom Nightstalker with Khepri's honestly wasn't bad to play the subclass as a pure information loop for your teammates where you had the loop for grenade +smoke energy and Heart of Pack's stat injection allowed you to shift stat points to Strength to have good up times.
      It's a shame because it truly felt like a niche enough thing you had to really lean in with the use of an exotic to get that payout of the wallhacks on a good frequency with no kill in the mix.
      Also good god if you wanted to just wombo people, a grenade with mid tree void's Corrosive bomb with Khepri's on was a great way for people to call hacks with just how powerful the damage of that smoke was.

    THANK YOU Datto for acknowledging Khepri's being completely trashed with the Void 3.0 changes. I went Flawless for the 1st time in D2 with Khepri's for these simple advantages:
    -Corrosive Smoke used to deal ALOT of damage like 100hp base, then Khepri's increases that by 150%!!!! Which was enough to instakill on smokebomb stick or pops automatically on melee for an instakill. Winning most melee fights(including ones where the opponent heals since the poison ticks). And even if they survive, they are blinded and slowed. REALLY STRONG for cleanups.
    -After pop on melee instakills, you could look around freely with 3 seconds of Truesight(since the first 2 seconds you are securing the kill) to find the next target.
    -Stepping in the corrosive smoke dealt about half their HP, so people unexpecting of it would push and get slowed, blinded and half health.
    -Wall hacks provided about 5 seconds prenerf. Enough to make efficient call outs and REALLY good with Spectral Blade.
    -Speaking of Spectral Blade, if you had a smoke charge when swiping in the super, it ALSO pops the smoke. Aiding in securing super kills when Spectral wiffs(which is still does a lot).
    -The stylish executioner benefits were also mentioned in the video, although had a lot of buildup. Mostly used in parity with the melee abilities.
    -One other cool note was at about half its active lifespan, you could gain Truesight from being in ANYONE'S smoke, teammates and enemies alike. Really fun when they think you're blinded.
    -REALLY EXCELLED in sniping and prefiring nade launchers. So many times people would hide and heal while I popped the smoke and launched a nade down their hiddy hole. At the lane breakoff in Elimination, I would pop a smoke and prefire shots before they even saw me off the split. I could also divert away from lanes safely if too much heat was coming.
    -So much information can be used to win games that is now completely wasted.
    In current form you cant even really use the divebomb to get truesight because the shit animation takes 1.5 seconds off the ability's 3 second timer, you have to shoot the smokebomb now since corrosive was REMOVED, if there is an enemy above you, your Truesight runs out by the time you look above to gain clarity on their position. The pop on melee is also trashed because even though the smoke deals the increased damage you lose the ability to look around on kill like before because it will have about 1 second left. Also the normal smokebomb doesnt do enough damage to instakill even on pop. Massacred my baby.
    Such a rogue meta choice that I have like 5 Masterworked that are useless until Bungie does their job in fixing what they broke.

    • @mangocad189
      @mangocad189 2 года назад

      As a fellow Khepris user, it’s still really strong, just not strong enough to 1 hit stab or 2 hit smoke, I also used it on Spectrals so I understand the disappointment from the new smoke bomb, however I always used it with Rat King and I still do. Throwing a powerful smoke and then cleaning up the kill with Rat King (while having Stylish Execution) will make you invis, give you true sight and while you are reloading Rat King you can look around for the next target while healing back to full from the catalyst. You just gotta know how to use it effectively imo

    Sanguine Alchemy is another infamous one that got replaced by Boots of the Assembler at least if you're doing group activities.
    The way I'd buff Sanguine Alchemy is:
    1. Kills in a Rift not only pause the rift time but also expands the size of the Rift (up to +10 meters).
    2. Kills increase the Rift's effect (2x faster healing/overshield or higher empower damage from 20% to 30%).
    3. The Rift's effect lingers after leaving the Rift based on how many kills the Sanguine Alchemy user got (5 seconds at base up to 15 seconds).
    These buffs will let Sanguine Alchemy make mini Well of Radiance if you can secure enough kills to power them up that far and unlike Boots of the Assembler, you actually have to EARN the power ups and Rift timer freezing.

    • @SorqO
      @SorqO 2 года назад

      Sanguine Alchemy is completely pointless, I agree. an easier buff than all this would be to just make it launch both heal and empower rift together. and extend the timer on kills but you don't get back rift energy while the blood buff is active. It would at least make more sense. OR not timer changes but you get back rift energy on kills.

But I do find it pairs really well with any sort of healing/over shield abilities (Void 3.0 or Solar bonk restoration) to really maximize on the recharge when damaged. That’s the part that really makes it a menace. It’s very nice to be able to use your charged melee or your grenade and barricade with practically no cooldown. The healing doesn’t do much for end game, I’ll concede, since you do get one to two shot. But even then, if you get some sort of sustain, I really think Mask shines in its own beautiful way. Sealed Ahamkara Grasps were briefly good: right after continuous autoloading was removed from Lunafaction rifts and rally barricades, there was a half season where hunters could still get the autoloading effect by using Sealed Ahamkara Grasps and hitting a boss with either smoke bomb or knife trick. Since those melees did damage over time they would keep activating the reload effect.
    Then Sealed Ahamkara Grasps got nerfed because someone had actually equipped the exotic for once. That nerf was adding a cooldown on how often the reload could proc. Keep in mind the glaring problem with autoloading effects was that they made rocket launchers and mountain top way too strong, since those weapons were balanced around a mag size of 1. In order to make those things not be a problem, you only needed a cool down of about 1.5 or 2 seconds, so that a regular reload would be faster than the autoload. Instead, Bungie gave it an 8 second cooldown.
    Given how useless it is now, I think they should give it back the autoloading effect for 5 seconds after a melee hit, just make it so the autoload only happens at 1.5 second intervals. (The reason I think a 5 second duration makes sense is so that the autoloading effect would match up with the airborne effect.)

    As a titan that has used and will continue to use Quiet One, i will still use it mainly because it's become a part of my identity as a guardian, is quite useful with my playstyle, and just generally looks great. I've been wearing it ever since red war and i've only switched off it when necessary for say, boss DPS to switch over to thundercrash. I honestly don't give a good god shit about what the Meta is, since i mainly just play for fun rather than playing to win. If it and all the other exotics here get a buff to help improve them for the current state of the game, great, but even now, i'm quite satisfied with the state Quiet One is in, at least for my purpouses.

    all Khepri’s Sting needs for a rework is to change the perk to something like “When you melee an enemy after triggering Stylish Executioner, do bonus damage and apply poison.”
    You could even add “Detonates a Smoke Bomb if enemy is killed by the poison” to give it a little sauce for pvp.

  • @RurouniHiro

    For felwinter’s helm (which I can see why it works well with the lie), isn’t so much as not being good enough. You just can’t use it as lazily.
    The Quiet one is not much different that other passive exotics, like I’m looking at all the ones surrounding grenades, but it’s titan ver of the hunter’s frostees. And can be used like an insurance when not using Solar. lorely’s is becoming more and more a crutch and or a requirement.
    Sealed A grasps, thats a frequent use for me especially with slow to reload weapons or shotguns with dual loader. Are there alternatives yes. Will I ever have graverobber on a gun? No.
    k.sting, I never used it as I never really inclined to use the wall hack it has or ever invested into them as it never suited my playstyle.
    Overall your video, your video is less “these things are near useless” and more like “we have other things now to do the thing.”
    Like we have a fragment that extend void effect durations, doesn’t mean things like graviton is obsolete among others.
    Plus most of the exotics you listed can stack with what you’re saying has replaced them in terms of the 3.0 light classes and stasis aspects and fragments, like great just need to destroy a current build to put on or change the subclass entirely
    It’s the difference of using a LFR/sleeper vs Ghorn, the former requires precision shots, Ghorn you can just ads .2 sec and shoot off two rounds and forget (even at that you can hipfire to do way more damage with little investment). Same can be said about last word for a time and recently dmt pre nerf. Everyone loved using dmt cause of the lazy use hipfire, GLs were meta till bungie took away its oneshot group kill potential in pvp (more so when they nerfed MT top…) now with both GLs and DMT people have to invest a Little bit more.
    as much things change, so much stays the same. Cue LFG groups demanding specific exotics “need solar titan with lorally’s” “need G-Horn/kick” when they aren’t Actually needed for success, do they make it easier yes, are things impossible without them? No. This more in the vein of Not power creep but more a Meta creep.

    I really adore Felwinter’s. It’s my nearly universal exotic outside of stasis. I’ve barely taken it off since it was introduced to the game. But I’ve noticed since the solar and void changes it feels even more difficult to proc the powered melee kills on void in particular. It feels so weak to be honest. I enjoy the play style that Felwinter’s provides, and it’s served me well in solo content. But the helm needs some help to reach its full potential.

    Mask of the quiet one with a decent stasis build is actually crazy. Power preservation and elemental shards on the helm. Grenade Kickstart on the arms. Elemental time dilation on the chest. Orbs and well of restoration on the boots. Utility Kickstart and well of restoration on the class item. Aspects of tectonic harvest and diamond Lance. Fragments of whisper of shards, rime, fissures, rending, and torment. Glacier grenade. Playing aggressive with it gambit is awesome.

    To add onto the Khepri's Sting thing: Part of what lead to it being power crept out is the removal of poison smoke bombs, which it seems like it would have worked well in combination thanks to giving a damage buff. I can certainly see it having some place in a niche build if poison smokes were still a thing lol

  • @alexsmith7313
    @alexsmith7313 2 года назад +1

    I definitely agree that power creep is an issue, I used to main Sealed Ahamkara back in Warmind, and the fragment reloading weapons hurts my soul. However, with that said, I feel like the point of exotics has been missed since D1; the point of an exotic is to be *exotic*. Unique, in some fashion. At no point did Bungie ever promise it would be *good*.

    • @robertpalmer8080
      @robertpalmer8080 2 года назад

      Thats the problem though, if it isn't good why should it exist? It'll never be used so all it does is flood the loot pool so it's harder and more annoying to farm the *good* exotics.

    • @alexsmith7313
      @alexsmith7313 2 года назад

      @@robertpalmer8080 Flooding the loot pool is good for player engagement; you keep playing because it’s harder to farm the “good” exotics, and after you’ve played their game for fifteen hours straight grinding for one exotic, you’re so grateful you have it, that you buy an ornament for it. Then, the meta changes next season, the exotic becomes less good if not outright worthless, and they reel you back in with a shiny new exotic that’s broken until that gets nerfed too. It’s all season and meta shifting now, Sleeper was decent before season 15 but until the Anarchy nerf in season 15 which “just so happened” to coincide with the rise of Particle, the removal of Breech and Clear, and the buff of Sleeper’s damage, anyone running an exotic heavy was going to run Anarchy because why would you not? My point was that the point of an exotic should not necessarily be that it’s broken, or else it either has to be nerfed or everything else needs to be raised, that’s the point of this video avoiding power creep in the first place. Anarchy is still good for the unique situation of using it for territory control against low level or low health elite ads, but it’s no longer utterly busted at everything you could ever use it for like it used to be. They made it unique, not broken, and if they want to combat power creep they have to do that with *every exotic in the game*.

    Felwinters helm and Monte Carlo is a great combo. The auto rifle gives melee energy and makes them stronger and the helm spreads it out and void is a projectile melee so you can spam void blasts. You can get your melee back every few seconds in target rich environments and scorch the surface with void energy.

    A good adjustment to help felwinters would be if the powered melee doesn’t get a kill, then it weakens only the target hit this would make it usable on big adds, but it would still give a burst of weakening if it kills a target

    Felwinters helm can actually synergie REALLY well with weapons with repulsor brace
    Because the weakness is counted as a void debuff, you can easily trigger the repulsor brace's overshield by simply finishing off any enemies that got affected by your melee/finishers weakness.

    something about felwinter's helm that a lot of people havent noticed since solar 3.0, any scorch or ignition damage caused by celestial fire/the snap count as melee damage, so if you run ember of ashes, land all 5 snap pellets on a target by splashing them in cqc, they will ignite. if that ignite kills ANYTHING, felwinter's helm will go off.

    I think something that wasn’t mentioned here was Fellwinter’s Helm to suppress/blind/slow nearby enemies. Pair that with the arc mod that gives you a pretty strong over shield whenever you preform a finisher and you can safely preform finishers.
    We’re not done though, if you have access to the Stasis subclass, this pairs well with Bleak Watchers and a finisher mod that replenishes grenades whenever you preform a finisher allows for you to:
    • Preform finishers with powerful over shield
    • Throw a bleak watcher grenade, gain another on preforming a finisher.
    • Have up to 4 Bleak Watch turrets locking down all nearby enemies.
    Have Fun.

    The thing that shoots a lot of these in the foot was the nerf to how buffs and debuffs stack towards the beginning of Shadow Keep. 3 years ago Felwinter's Helm would've been on the other end of the power creep spectrum because of how many debuffs it would have stacked with.

    The number one example that comes to mind for me is Hallowfire Heart. It's solar only, and needs you to hold your super without using it to gain the ability recharge. Heart of Innermost Light is subclass agnostic, gives damage bonuses to your grenades and melee, lets you keep using your super, AND gives more ability recharge on top of all that. The only advantage Hallowfire Heart has is a small passive airborne effectiveness buff.

Boots of the assembler do that and give ranged buffs to your friendly guardians. On top of that they also generate noble rounds for lumina.
