Jungle Zone Act 2... oh boy. There's a MASSIVE DIFFERENCE from that version to this one. Let's just go that way - In that version of this level, even with the way bigger screen... the screen doesn't follow you if you want to go back down. And so, if you go like three times sonic's height below the highest point you got in the stage, INSTANT DEATH. That stage is the BANE OF MY EXISTENCE.
I have to say, I've never cared too much for the 16-bit Labyrinth Zone's music, but the 8-bit Labyrinth Zone music is very catchy. For that reason (and the fact that it's a shorter zone), I've always preferred this version of Labyrinth Zone.
Falling in the Master System version is even worse. The stage suffers from Contra Syndrome... the screen locks in place as it scrolls up with you. Even if a platform is literally a pixel beneath the bottom of the screen, you die if you touch the bottom of the screen. SUCH a pain in the ass. Glad they changed it in the Game Gear version.
Is the Game Gear version easier then the Master System version? I had SO much trouble playing the Master System version and Clement is just blasting through all the levels... well, I also suck, but usually with the Genesis games I just have a little trouble on a section of a stage and let plays I watch just skip it with a shortcut, but this is a whole game!
The graphics for mortal kombat 2 on the game gear were great! Looked as good as the original one on genesis. What happened with sonic? It couldn't have been too hard to bring back his genesis sprite
In Spring Yard Zone from the original. There’s like a jungle in the background. In front of the city. What if, the jungle in the Game Gear version is that jungle? I mean, you do go to Labyrinth soon after The jungle. Same with The Spring Yard Zone.
Ah. Differences in Jungle zone. When climbing the waterfall the screen locks and becomes a bottomless pit. If you don't plan out your moves that can really screw you over. The Jungle boss is also harder it's easier to bounce off and onto a bomb. Labyrinth zone there's not much difference, but the Chaos Emerald is buried in spikes and you need to get an invincibility and leg it to the Emerald before the invincibility dies.
I had: GAME GEAR dark grey (the most common color) NBA Action: featuring David Robinson Sonic Sonic 2 Sonic Spinball Sonic Chaos (which I called Sonic Chowce when I first got it) Columns Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball Pac Man (acquired used) battery pack (literally the size, shape, and weight of a potato) wall adaptor Sonic Drift 2 (I didn't like how the turns seemed to come from nowhere) Ecco the Dolphin
How many differences are there between the Game Gear and the Master System versions? I did notice a difference with the Eggman battle in the Bridge area. On the Master System version there are no bridges, just 2 small pools of water Eggman rises from.
Don't worry Clement, your not the only one who hate's this zone and any other game that involves water levels. In real life, I hate swimming, lol. I could never learn how to swim without the fear of sinking. Cause my phobias, cause them!!!
On my ps2 port of this game, labyrinth zone had this stupid glitch that if I was in the water, the game would just crash and reset to the beginning. Has this happened to you?
Labyrinth zone in normal sonic 1 is my fav zone and I can say it's not that slow but dam labyrinth zone on the game gear really sucks. It is SOOOO much slower it's like doing marble zone bullshit in water times 50! least the boss isn't bad
Chaos emerald in labyrinth wasn't supposed to be that easy lol. In the master system original it's below spikes and you have to get an invincibility box and then make it there quicky. For some reason they got rid of that in the game gear.
about all the monsters on sonics world it has been stated that chaos is actually just a mutated Chao that gained water like property's and is not really a god
Have you ever heard of the SEGA Nomad? It's not a new system per se. But like it's name implies (Nomad), it's a portable system. However, it's a portable SEGA Genesis, as in it takes the SEGA Genesis's cartridges. And it comes with a rechargeable battery pack, so no more wasted batteries. It also has a section where you can connect a 2nd controller for a 2 player game (although playing 2 players on a small screen can be distracting). The SEGA Nomad is one case where SEGA do what Nintendon't.
@lordiisawsome23 I'm not insane, I just love going through any water level in any game. Any water level ranging from Twilight Princess's Lakebed Temple, all water zones in Sonic, all water levels in Donkey Kong Country, etc. If they make an all water based Sonic game I would buy it and enjoy playing every minute of it. If I had the money, I would buy this Game Gear thing and buy this game just to play the Labyrinth Zone.
@below very true I hated when that happened lol. Also in Labranth zone the chaos emerald was in spikes so you had to hit the invincible box and rush to the chaos emerald before the effect ran out or else you miss it. Master system version was better and slightly harder IMO but game gear version is good though.
Lol. I am watching slender, while I wait for it to buffer I start listening to the bridge zone music from this video. It doesn;t go together well. In fact, someone should make an lp of slender where the background music is bridge zone
Thank goodness they brought back the Labyrinth Zone, one of the best levels in gaming history just because of the water. More importantly, it was more realistic than the first one. Clemant, why do you despise water levels so much?
If you think the Game Gear required a ridiculous number of batteries, check out the Sega Nomad, which was basically a portable Genesis with a full color screen. The Game Gear ate batteries. The Nomad DEVOURED them.
If you die twice (and don't collect 50 rings in zones 1-4) you get a ring(10 rings) if you die 3 times (and don't collect 50 rings in zones 1-4) you get a sonic which gives you a extra life!
9:50 Who said Sonic needed to breathe? In Death Egg Zone (both sonic 2 and sonic 3 & knuckles) he's in space with no oxygen. How does he breathe out there? He doesnt. So who said he needed to breathe?
Looks like this is gonna be a 3-parter, maybe? BTW, is Sky Base Zone the first flying fortress stage in the series? I recall the sequence leading up to it was pretty epic in its own right...
if you play on the master system, the chaos emerald is situated in between spikes. you need the box that makes you immun to damage and you need to be fast to reach the spikes in time!
@cyrax2552 I've never owned Ocarina of Time, but I've been wanting to get just for that temple only. I've one or two people do a Let's Play of it and it looks very exciting to play.
@joeXeffingXcocker Desert levels I hate, but water and ice levels are just levels I enjoy doing. No matter the difficulty of any water or ise level, I'll enjoy to its full extent.
What happend to the cool stone background in Labrynth zone. I know this is on Gamegear, but come on!They could create an 8-bit version of the background from Genesis. =(
I know this is probably blasphemy but I preferred the Master System/Game Gear version of Sonic 1 to the Mega Drive version. This brings back so many memories :)
"I just love going through any water level in any game"
"No matter the difficulty"
Have you heard of Ecco the Dolphin?
It was MADE for you.
This part made me chuckle 7:38
“Unlike Sonic, I don't chuckle.”
Me: Oh shoot I chuckled.

lennonluiz0907 h
I fell ur pain. Megaman has scared me that exact way so many times.
Though it still is my favorite fucking game ever
So it has contra syndrome
I have to say, I've never cared too much for the 16-bit Labyrinth Zone's music, but the 8-bit Labyrinth Zone music is very catchy. For that reason (and the fact that it's a shorter zone), I've always preferred this version of Labyrinth Zone.
"But I digress" should be a catchphrase. Loving this series, wish I'd found it sooner.
Clement: I can't die in this game
also Clement: *misses the platform and dies*
Falling in the Master System version is even worse. The stage suffers from Contra Syndrome... the screen locks in place as it scrolls up with you. Even if a platform is literally a pixel beneath the bottom of the screen, you die if you touch the bottom of the screen. SUCH a pain in the ass. Glad they changed it in the Game Gear version.
Everybody loves log!

Ethan Hall Good to know thanks
always loved the colour and fruity background and music of the jungle zone :b so good
jungle zone has good music
The graphics for mortal kombat 2 on the game gear were great! Looked as good as the original one on genesis. What happened with sonic? It couldn't have been too hard to bring back his genesis sprite

Labyrinth Zone in this game is scarier than the Genesis/Mega Drive version. The background looks dark, and the music in this version is kinda scary.
Fuck Labyrinth Zone on the PS2 collection, everytime I went in the water, the game would glitch out and restart the whole game
Ah. Differences in Jungle zone. When climbing the waterfall the screen locks and becomes a bottomless pit. If you don't plan out your moves that can really screw you over. I had:

Sonic Spinball
Sonic Chaos (which I called Sonic Chowce when I first got it)
Columns
Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball
Pac Man (acquired used)

wall adaptor
Sonic Drift 2 (I didn't like how the turns seemed to come from nowhere)

While Jungle isn't in either version, in the 3DS version they have a vine-grinding section in Mushroom Hill. In Unleashed/Colours style, even,
On my ps2 port of this game, labyrinth zone had this stupid glitch that if I was in the water, the game would just crash and reset to the beginning. Has this happened to you?
Labyrinth zone in normal sonic 1 is my fav zone and I can say it's not that slow but dam labyrinth zone on the game gear really sucks. It is SOOOO much slower it's like doing marble zone bullshit in water times 50! least the boss isn't bad
well the main difference is that there are only three levels from the Genesis version in this version of the game.
Chaos emerald in labyrinth wasn't supposed to be that easy lol. In the master system original it's below spikes and you have to get an invincibility box and then make it there quicky. For some reason they got rid of that in the game gear.
Eggman: The bowling ball launcher! ...And The double cannon mk. II!
The Jungle Level would always kick my ass in this game, I don't think I had as much trouble on any other level.
I could swear I've heard the Labyrinth Zone tune for this game somewhere else... because I certainly haven't seen this game before.
I remember that alot of people complained about the drowning music because it restarted the zone music from start all over again.
Really easy, you should play the Masteras System version, it's the same graphics but more challenging.
i want a Sega Master System it's the only Sega Console i don't have that's not including the add-ons
The labyrinth emerald in the sms version is literally in the spikes, which is why the Invincibility is in that act.
about all the monsters on sonics world it has been stated that chaos is actually just a mutated Chao that gained water like property's and is not really a god

there are only 2 zones in the sonic history with a jungle zone 1 sega game gear 2 adabat from sonic unleshed
If you think the Game Gear required a ridiculous number of batteries, check out the Sega Nomad, which was basically a portable Genesis with a full color screen. The Game Gear ate batteries. The Nomad DEVOURED them.

The Jungle zone looks like where sonic and shadow fought [fight] at prison island
I know this is probably blasphemy but I preferred the Master System/Game Gear version of Sonic 1 to the Mega Drive version. This brings back so many memories :)
the point of the game gear was playing on small vacations, family meetings and when your parents where watching the TV where the genesis was pluged in
@cyrax2552
I spent years on trying to beat the Labyrinth Zone for Gensis version of this game. I know all about taking forever on a certain place.
Jungle Zone's theme is my favorite song in the game.
I do like this one the most out of all the game gear/master system Sonic games, as this ones actually have direct fights against Eggbotnick.
Are you doing the remake of this game is has some more moves
The spin dash
The super peelout
9:25 in the ms version of the game that emerald is a bitch its in the spikes
What happened to "I'm not going to die?"
The bosses are easy because of the screen crunch, in the SMS version Eggman is higher and you have to wait for him to come down
Sorry, meant to say curse my phobias. I hate it when I make a typo. lol
they should have put sky base zone on generations, plus, sky base theme is beast, they should have also put the doomsday
Btw, the Chaos Emerald on Labyrinth Zone, you had to get a invincibility box and run to get the C.E that was on the spikes
lol! i just happen to be on the sixth continent in Sonic unleashed and you brought up Dark Gaia! wow! wha good timing!
I thought Sonic 1 on game gear you could juggle the spinning sign at the end of the level to get sonic on the sign
the chaos emerald in labirinth on the master system is in spikes
lol. I can't get rid of the blue shield unless I... *dies off* ...die.
The music in this zone reminds me of the music in rainbow island.
This game is cute but oh my god that waterfall makes my eyes water.
I really like the Labyrinth music this, it reminds me of a Nes Capcom game like Mega Man or Duck Tales.
The drowning music always freaked me out as a kid. O_o
I'm still a bit freaked out by it, because I'd hate to drown in real life.
what do those boxes with the downward pointing arrow do?
Dr. Eggman is cute in this game. He looks like a little kitten!
In the jungle act 3 before you go up keep going to the right and there should be a free man
oh and the labyrinth zone is a pain in the master system version
Wow the Master System version is way harder than this, I didnt know about the differences!
In the master system if you fall in jumble zone act 2 you're fucked, it won't scroll down.
Is the Sega Game Gear version of sonic the Hedgehog the same as the Sega Master version?
Its Loooog Loooog. Its big. Its heavy. Its Loooog Loooog. Its better then bad its good.
Honestly I could swear I remember having a flickering sprite on my brother's old game gear back in the day.
Jungle zone Act 2 was the part I always failed at.
@ultrasonic99099 lol, i know. i was just pointing it out. he didn't even mention it.
I have a genesis and and a game gear...both dont work :(
Screw the rules! Video game logic is superior to all laws of physics and logic!
2 things... 1 what was that about sonic ds? & 2 sonic's world is called Mobius
Why didn't you just record with SADX man?
Wait...are you going to do an LP of Unleahsed?
@321cheeseman
I have heard of it but never got the the chance to play it.
Dear god, Game Gear Eggman is so damn easy compared to the Master System.
Was eggman called eggman in this game? or was it robotnik like sonic 1?
im pretty sure every person watching this knows what your talking about.
I actually really liked my sega Nomad. portable sega genesis basically
the cheakpoint is the same on the master system version
@levelmaster2 your weird lol. i hate water, ice, and dessert levels.
jungle zone music reminds me of a barney song
Whenever I played this game on Mega Collection Plus, somehow it would glitch out during the Labyrinth Zone. I have no idea how it happened.
Soni Heroes...? does that ring a bell? or maybe Sonic Adventure 2?
Idk why but I LOVE the Labyrinth Zone theme in this game.
same
wait so when 5 pops up when youre in water you have over 1 minute
I find it funny that some people find the drowning music scary
Those logs are really angels in disguise.
i love jungle zone's music, takes me back.
You love to say I digress clement.
@legogamer98 Oh well, we got grinding in Chemical plant. :D
