I bought the Master System version of this game on my Wii's Virtual Console, and I LOVE it!! It reminds me of the very first time I played it on the Master System console as a kid.
I remember this game. I got to the Final Boss with Tails and lost all my lives and continues. T_____T I was so horrified that I didn't try again anymore ever again.
I spent so many hours slaving at my game gear when I was a kid, and barely got all seven emeralds. This playthrough makes me feel ashamed of my youthful ineptitude :(

Just when I started watching listening to the video and playing (I looked at the title screen in this just before I started playing) I noticed my was different and it was like the American designs surprisingly I thought the designs for the Japanese and North America versions were only different for Sonic 1, 2 and 3.
Sonic Chaos was also on the Master System. The title cards for the levels are different from the Game Gear version. In the SMS version, it says "zone name Act 1, 2, 3". But, in the GG version, you get nothing but the zone name! Also, the Master System version has a bigger screen size.
ConTails Well then that just renders his comment kind of silly. He was likely pretty young at the time, and he probably hadn't played that many games, so it's very likely he wouldn't have heard of a halfway castle before playing this.

@callomstar Actually, the FIRST Robin, Dick Grayson, became Nightwing. Jason Todd was the second Robin to die, but he got better. And then he became Red Hood. The third Robin, Tim Drake, was made to retire by his father. Stephanie Brown, Robin #4, died... and then got better and stopped being evil. Tim Drake went for another round, and only stops when Batman's son rescues him and becomes Robin, with Dick Grayson being the new Batman(Did I mention Batman died?). And Drake became Red Robin.
I wonder how the game calculates speed? Out of curiosity, I played a level, doing nothing but slowly stepping... Somehow, I was travelling roughly 700km/h!
So it's assumed that in the Sonic games where you can only get 6 chaos emeralds, Dr. Eggman has the 7th, which is why Sonic can only transform into super sonic when he has all 7.
Once a Sonic Team developer was asked what the worst Sonic game was, and he replied Sonic Chaos. WTF? Sonic Chaos is about 1000x better than Sonic 06. Sonic Chaos is easy, but I found it to be a relief after Sonic 2 for the GG which is probably the hardest Sonic game.
^^ i gotta sega game gear thingy today. but.... it's like, programed with 30 games in it and i don't think i can buy any that go into it. but still, it's cool. as well a gesnesis, and an atari. but we bought 2 game gears so maybe competetative play for score and speed with family~ we like our retro stuff

I see why it doesn't let you play as super sonic. The game makes it so easy to get emeralds so you can get super sonic in a flash. Super Sonic would make the game too much easier than it already is.

No no, if you get a Sonic goal post, you get an extra life, if you get a Tails goal post, you get an extra continue.
Actually, if you get Sonic as Sonic, you get a life, and if you get Tails as Sonic, you get a continue, and vice versa.

In Sonic Blast you can collect the Chaos Emeralds with Sonic or Knuckles in 3d special stage.

But he went right wherever possible on the way up. The final jump may be left, sure, but overall it's to the right.
