I was playing a hack of this game a few months back, which allowed you to play as Tails in the Special Stages, and damn are they broken as heck due to his flying ability.
Fun Fact: Mecha Green Hill Zone's music is a re-arrangement of sorts of You Can Do Anything (or Toot Toot Sonic Warrior) from the Green Hills Zone's version. Just listen....you'll see the resemblance.
Even if they are way easy, i thought it was cool how the special stages had different goals instead of just being the same thing over and over again, just harder.
2:20 Robotnik (or Eggman, whatever ya wanna call him!) probably built Mecha Green Hill as a big obstacle to Sonic just because he's a ghastly bastard...maybe even his idea of a sick joke xp It's not enough for him to understand nature, he has to remake it in his own image and control it, or so the Sonic lore says.
I'd like to point out that Sonic 1 on GameGear was actually made by a completely different team then the one who made the other GameGear games. Sonic 1 was made by Ancient and the rest by Aspect.
Dude, there's at least 150 rings I saw in Metal Green Hill Zone. It's not that you can't get a hundred rings-- it's that you're too impatient to do it.
In technicality, sonic chaos was in development before sonic the hedgehog 2. Before there were 7 emeralds. But considering how short this game is, I really don't get how this took longer to finish.
I think that's the robot coconut this guy was talking about when he was playing this before photography class years ago. Don't ask how I remember that. Also, goo is not your friend, so sayeth that guy.
Crushing is ALWAYS an instant kill? I got crushed in Chemical Plant act 1 in Sonic Generations, and I got right back up and kept running. Though I only got back a couple rings.

I like the idea of the special stages being a diffrent style of stage every time. Not sure on the execution of it in this game, but a cool idea.

I beat Aqua Planet's boss with no rings! It was always a mystery to me how to get the 10 rings with Sonic.

There are, but the very first Sonic game had only six, so for some reason all of the Game Gear games just stuck with that.

on the master system the mech green hill zone the boss is by a pit with spikes which i think makes it easier.

I only played this game once, and I could never make it to the boss on Mecha Green Hill Zone Act 3! For some reason, I kept dying on that level!

I was able to use the spring shoes as tails. Though I played the sonic score dx version but he can use the spring shoes.
