@@djoetma Ocon is known to be a nightmare as a teammate, racing like a suicidal driver against his teammates. Combine that with the arrogance of Russel and his tendency to sometimes go for impossible gaps (to his credit less in 2023), it could turn sour quite fast.

I think is more about leverage, him showing himself as available for that seat does give leverage to Toto to negotiate with other drivers for a fairer price, dont burn your bridges man, Toto might not put him in Mercedes, but Toto helped him get that seat in Alpine and also did help Mick get his at that other racing series. If someone can help Ocon keep racing (no matter the series) it is Toto.

All the ties dont matter when you're a liability from the constant coming togethers you have with every team mate you've ever had.
That also tells you he was competitive. It's not like he did it on purpose. Ocon is an interesting guy. Fast, has a good story behind him and good in interviews and not afraid to poke fun at himself.

@@djoetmathing is he 100% does it on purpose. The start at Hungary where he blocks Alonso and leaves the door completely open for Lewis to pass both of them. Same with later in that race where Danny passes them. He also blocked Gasly at the start in Brazil last year. Clear as day from Gasly’s on board who also commented on it.

Alonso makes the most sense I think. I'd be happy to see Albon in that seat but i'm not sure that would be the best long-term option for him with Kimi antonelli coming through. Ocon has a chance but I think he is towards the back of a pretty long queue.
considering how big the Mercedes Brand is, I dont like him but Seb is the best option, a German driver in a "german" team will sell a lot of cars.

@@ChuyR. Sebastian is a great shout and like you said he would benefit the team by being a German driver, I'm not sure if he is still interested in racing F1 having retired but anything could happen. I suppose we will have to just wait and see as to who Mercedes decides is best suited for that seat come 2025.
Alonso is reasonably fast but technically weak and causes problems if he has a competitive teammate.

They need a big name to fill the gap and Ocon isn't one. Think Albon and Sainz both should be ahead of him. Alonso is a strong candidate but he doesn't want to go to a team where they are already setting an expiration date for his contract. His first choice would be Aston Martin.

Albon nor Sainz are big names. Ocon is an equal name. Ocon beat Verstappen in F3 and was very competitive against Perez when he debuted in F1.
@@djoetma That's the past. Sainz and Albon were talked about a lot last year and most were praising their level of performance on a regular basis.
Ocon usually only comes up in conversations about friction between teammates. You can like it or not but Ocon's stock isn't as high as the other two at the moment.
@@sheeshman9713I agree that his stock isn't. I'm just giving my opinion and telling people why. Alonso's divisive mentality is not the past. It was last season at Alpine. Also, he's the only one who hasn't gotten that shot yet even though when he was in a fast car (Force India) he didn't fail.

George and Ocon would be absolutely amazing; they can both be a bit "Crashy" with teammates so it would end up being a heck of a rollercoaster season if Ocon turned up.
Also - when he raced Max in junior categories, he fought Max every step of the way. He wasn't one of those drivers who rolls over at Max's reputation.

So many commenters clearly didn’t watch this. I’m no Ocon fan, but he gave a very classy and skillful answer.
I will say this much, Ocon destroys all his teammates. We’ve all seen the resulting yellow flags and wreckage. My Dad’s got more chance of being in that Merc next year. And he died in 2001.
You still have a lot to learn before thinking about that seat. First of all stop ignoring team orders. Second start using your brain when you want to send one. And third show yourself a good teammate for once. And fourth try to get liked by the spectators beyond France. Good luck!

Albon would be a more reliable/calmer option. Plus Albon gets on well with George.
While Ocon might be jealous/bitter that George, in effect, usurped Ocon’s position in being Lewis’s successor.

Ocon is too toxic. His only goal is to beat his teammate no matter what. He’s had on track run ins with all of them. The Checo and Alonso ones are the biggest, but He cut off Gasly in Brazil too. It’s less talked about than the others. It wasn’t missed by Gasly though as he even comments about it on the on board.

Not many people realize this, but Esteban Ocon is so far the ONLY guy who beat Max in junior categories before they made it into F1. Yup, I'm not kidding. Even Charles failed to beat Max when they were younger.

Esteban continues to impress the F1 community and media with his incisive view of all matters pertaining to the sport. Professionalism both on and off the track make him one of F1 racings most coveted drivers.

Ocon has zero chance to go anywhere because he doesn’t know how to work as a team. He burned bridges with all his teammates.
Merc would want stability after Lewis leaves. Ocon seems like opposite of stability. He’d cost George and the team points. And Russell would respond by destroying Ocon.
By all his teammates you mean Alosno, the one guy who has never been a team player. He had clashes with perez as well but Checo was equally at fault for those. So far he's wrorked well with Gasly despite them having some off track differences and he got on fine with Ricciardo.

@@areebsiddiqui758He got on fine with Ricciardo because he was only too happy to be on the grid after sitting a season out, and Ricciardo destroyed him. Perez and Alonso were fireworks. He didn't really get on with Gasly. Japan and Monza were two races where Gasly was livid with him and the team.
@@sheeshman9713 Him and Gasly got on fine. They resolved the Australia crash quite well and the team radio moment at Suzuka was bad communication from the team. It had nothing to do with Ocon.
And why are you acting like Perez didn't crash into him half the time when they were at Force India? Alonso has a history of not getting along with teammates, particularly ones that are competitive with him. Remember the tantrum he threw when Trulli started beating him at Renault or when he cried about a rookie Hamilton being as fast as him and tried to come up with conspiracies. Or the toxic environments he created at Ferrari and McLaren.
Ocon has to leave F1 always second on every team he is, no leadership (proven when gasly came) always crashes the first half of the season and the second half says he need to improve,

Ocon in Mercedes would be the worst decision ever. The guy can’t stand a driver that’s better than him. I am not a fan of George but George would run circles around ocon. Stay at alpine, be the driver you want to be there. Invisible and forgettable.
Vettel would be the best choice.
Ocon did a pretty good job against Alonso who's a better driver than Russel. Look at their quali and race H2H, Ocon is a fast driver prone to the odd error. George would be faster than him but not by a huge margin.
