  • Merc, time to go big or go home. Replace a World Champion with a World Champion and watch the entire F1 world explode. Also pull in some brand new fans while you're at it. With names like Albon, Sainz and Ocon being touted as a replacement for Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes need to smash this and sign either Fernando Alonso or Sebastian Vettel.
    If they are to remind F1 that they are still the big boys of the sport, Hamilton's replacement needs to be a big one!

    I agree.
    I get the feeling Vettel is done with F1 now. He’s a four-time world champion, he’s got kids and a wife now and what else does he really need to achieve?
    If Alonso wants to continue in the sport, I would sign him. I think he’ll pretty much be a like-for-like replacement of Hamilton. I know he’s known for his fiery personality, but I believe his experiences in the sport has made him mature on and off the track. His age isn’t a problem as long as he performs at his best or near his best.
    Would Mercedes be an upgrade on Aston Martin for Alonso? Yes, if Aston Martin can’t find a solution to improve their car. Last year, Aston Martin started well, but then the car dropped down the pecking order.

    I think Merc need a big name to match the other line ups. I wouldn't rule out Antonelli, I think that's his name 😅, if he has a good year in F2. I'd love Vettel personally.

  • @Todesschleicher
    @Todesschleicher 6 месяцев назад +2

    For me it's (unless he looks bad bad in F2) Antonelli or bust. Nobody will match the marketing and brand value of LH44 anyway. Going after a 43yo Nando or a Seb that has been retired for two years would do nothing but look desperate. Seb would surely need a season to acclimate to F1 again - so why not just give the seat to Kimi? He's the next big thing. The aspiring italian legend in F1 who drives for the German manufacturer - the Anti-Schumi if you will. The storylines are perfect, the marketing is perfect and you show strong intent: "The next era will be ours and there's nobody on the grid who we'd rather have than our own junior."
    Swing for the fences instead of clawing to save face. 2025 is transitional anyway, so plug in the big talent. Worked with Oscar, so why not?

    i would like to see seb in that mercedes, it was my favorite driver, but he will have 2 years out of F1, dont know if he has that motivation to restart the crazy F1 life. it will be a bet, either complete fail, either seb will fight for champions.
    alonso is much into F1 today. but it is known as not a good teammate. beside, he is not a good developing car person (ocon said that; also the mclaren honda ("gp2 engine") was definetly a very bad aero design that was corrected after alonso left + that "gp2 engine" was good enough for redbull to win in their first year of collaboration). alonso seemed slower than vettel all the time, although talented. and true, he is old. to sign some driver into his 45 and hope it will still produce 100% performance sounds like doping issue :))
    yet, i will choose some young gp2 champion. preferable mick. he has good relation with merc, good relation with media, marketing impact. he worked in simulator for 2023 car, know more inside stuff than any other rookie. + merc invest into russel as driver no.1

    I think it is the best win-win situation in F1, with Fernando at Mercedes. Maybe they can sign up Kimi Antonelli on a Williams drive replacing Sargeant, and that leaves a space for Sainz to continue with Aston-Martin, and be the team leader for some years to come. Eventually when Fernando quits, Mercedes have a ready replacement with Kimi...
    From the perspective of Mercedes, it keeps a steady ship for when the new regulations come up.
    But yeah, really have to admit being too drunk right now with Hamilton's move to Ferrari. We're really thinking that everything's possible now!
    Also, there's a bit of time for everyone involved with the whole 2024 season... so any big annonucement should not be here any time very soon.

    Why don't they look for a driver who is not retired or a couple of years from it. Its a rebuild, not a restoration. Start with a young driver they can mold to the driver they want. Alonso for 2 years. do not plan on winning (too old), by then Kimi Antonelli will be ready. You sound like every other site. Think outside the box.
