Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods on the East Coast of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. Just an idea, if you plant micro clover you rarely have to cut it and it’s beautiful and is like a lawn but better

What happened to your little wooden path from the bottom of the steps to the parking spot? You spent AGES working out the curve angles!
This lawn represents so much, knowing that it's something of a final touch after all the pipes and trenches and tractor tires. Love this yard, love you girls!

i've said it before and i'll say it again: i've seen work crews not work as hard as you too. sure being your own place makes a difference but still good job
@@yomogami4561 unfortunately work crews tend to put in as little effort they need to for their paychecks, but these girls obviously care cuz its their own home. thats why alot of home builders try to stay in the mindset, if your gonna build it, build it like its your own house.
It looks amazing. As an Australian it’s so weird to me that the grass will (presumably) lay dormant during the snowy/icy winter and then thrive again in spring 😊

Looks so great!!! If I can suggest something, I added concrete bags(powdered) and raked over river stone to make more secure and prevent weeds, spray with water and enjoy! Love love love what you’ve both done and I’m looking forward to watching each and every week:)
Fabulous transformation! This is no longer a dilapidated cottage in the woods - it has become a beautiful home.
Do you plan on closing up around the cabin? It would really help you with a warmer floor and hold in the heat better probably by 40 to 60 percent. And help the water lines from freezing up.
And keep the critters out too.😊

Just keeps getting better. The lawn is beautiful, very much needed for the outdoor space. You two are such a tight band, amazing how you bump each other up and keep the effervescent joy so high despite the rigors of the labor and occasional disappointments.
11:29 have you two considered doing an hour of nature sounds? I would absolutely LOVE to hear the quiet and nature 🥰 especially since I live in the city and can't always escape to my favorite place: the mountains 😍

The gras needs water water water. When they harvest it, the roots inevitably take a lot of damage. Until they are grown back, it needs a lot of water.

Hi Gals. I worked up north for a very long time. I also flew on forest fires for one season as a detection pilot. I also know what a wonderful job that the tanker pilots have been doing this season to try to knock down the fires not to mention all the ground crews that have worked tirelessly to try and save peoples homes and property. Could I suggest that, you look into building a fire break around your property. It is basically just a clear-cut area to prevent fire from jumping from the surrounding area onto your property.

We all make mistakes! That's how we learn. It looks fantastic. Now things are perfect for my girls! Watching Bella & Izzy in the grass made me wanna roll around with them. I must confess when you first showed us the cabin I was worried. But dang look at it now. This proves hard work pays off! Sending each of you my love give Bella & Izzy extra love for me! Hi ladies, what an amazing project! Loved the entire process. Remember to install lawn edging between lawn and driveway or else gravel/stones will end up in lawn areas and mess up your lawn mower blades etc. Much love!

My hubby use too grade our gravel drive, each spring, with a piece of chainlink fence with a large log for weightbehind our small garden tractor. Thanks for the memory

Grass is better than mud puddles, however we much prefer fruit and nut trees, tomatoes, bell peppers, corn, cucumbers, spinach, and the list goes on and on. Grass seems like a waste of good top soil...

May have been previously mentioned but there’s an additive that you can put in Izzy & Bella’s water that will neutralize their urine so it doesn’t leave burn marks on your sod 🙂

Now you need a good lawn mower. Maybe a 3 point pto finish mower for the Kubota, or a zero turn big one for the big lawn. Good job girls!
The garden is coming on nicely. The new laid lawn makes it all so cosy. The firepit is nice for social gatherings in summer nights.
I have sooo much smaller lot here, we redid our backyard roto tilled it amended the soil and tried to level a bit more. We had 1 pallet of sod and I’m thinking 11 pallets, oh my aching knees and back. It does look nice now. With 2 dogs, you may want to get a large bag of grass seed for the spring to start over seeding those areas the 4 legged children have designated as theirs.

Girls, first, the 2 of you are AMAZING!!! Such role models!! You can accomplish anything - every week I am impressed!
Second, i LOVE watching your dogs, so this is based upon me just caring and being a big worrier. Maybe the dogs are always inside when the tractor is being operated, but if not, PLEASE keep them inside. I grew up on a farm and the big dog related lesson I learned is that if your dogs are out around equipment, eventually the day will come when the dog sneaks behind a tire and you don’t see them. I never ran over a dog but my dad ran over more than one and neighbors, uncles, etc. have also ran over dogs. Everyone thinks they won’t because their dog doesn’t hang out around the tractor or trailer or whatever. But then one day it happens. I’ve become very protective, some may say over protective when it comes to equipment…but being overprotective means dogs do not get run over.
Yes, as a child I witnessed a neighbour run over his new puppy and it traumatised me for years.

Be aware that a root fire can happen! Hopefully all the digging eliminates this concern...a root can catch fire undet the firepit, travel along the root system, and ignite a tree from underground.
I admire you two for your unceasing hard work to make your ‘cabin in the woods’ into this gorgeous home! I especially love and appreciate the new fire pit area. I vacationed in Canada for 25 years. I so enjoyed the night sky … millions of stars, constellations, satellites and The Milky Way!

If you want your sod perfect, you should roll it with a drumb (water barell drumb) after laying to get rid of the lumpy fluffy grass that could create puddles. Needs a once over of a smooth heavy roll drumb.
