The best plan for those Spruce trees is to get rid of them. The are planted in a way to make them grow fast beyond the root structure. In a storm, they will fall like dominoes. Chop them down, use the wood to build your house and try to plant Caledonian woodland. Its planted because it grows fast on poor soil and likely helps drainage where they are planted in the video, go on and cut all them down, best check you're not going to ruin anything first and that what ever trees you want to plant will actually grow in your lifetime. You know how they take a while normally? I'll give you a hint, I planted a tree in the nature garden of my school in primary five, I was an adult with kids of my own when it was fully grown.
@@TheJpf79 They are planted close together to encourage competition for Sunlight. Well for starters the land would not have been covered in mono culture commercial conifer forests completely devoid of all life . She would have seen some the original teaming with wildlife forests before they were all cut down for the wars, industry and farming etc. Lucky if there is 2% of the original Caledonian forest left sadly.
Having a piece of family history from the original owners dating back to the 1800s, is absolutely incredible!! 😮 That piece of land is breathtaking, it looks like something straight from an apple wallpaper 😯🙌

I'm so chuffed for you both (and not at all jealous...). I'm actuality an admin assistant in a small planning and architecture firm in Fife, Scotland, and sorry if its already been said or you're aware and I'm just repeating stuff you already know, but planning and building standards regulations are different in Scotland than England (a few of our clients have been previously caught out cause they check the wrong guidance). We have now had our land for two years and it is much better now. You will soon learn and it is very rewarding and calming. Good luck in your adventure.

It's so amazing to see the beginning and I'm excited to see what the future brings for you two. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.
the fact that people get so emotional and heart-pounding when finding a derelict piece of land to buy only shows how broken society is & how a "home" no matter what, is an innate need. 100k years ago, we could find a place, settle down, and build a shelter without being arrested by police for trespassing or for breaching planning laws. Having experienced both the top and bottom of society multiple times from my view, I can confidently say it’s absurd how today only the wealthy enjoy basic freedom that we've all had since the dawn of time.
Congratulations to you both and obviously they doggies, I will be watching this next series very closely as I'm a man that dose everything himself. I'm sure it will be hard work and lots of emotions, but it's going to be so worth it.🎉

Was just about to say, the first thing I’d do is chop down a lot of those trees for firewood and plant native trees like rowan etc. but there have been comments saying that which is absolutely amazing to see 😄
Huge congratulations to you both form Scotland . I have lived in Scotland all my life . Il live on the East Coast . Just found your channel. Can’t wait to see what you both do with your stunningly beautiful land . Wish you all the luck in the world . And to Isabella can’t wait to hear her back story . ❤
You've already got a thousand comments and I'm sure someone has already said but we think the slab where you found water could be covering the well. Most properties have a well somewhere nearby. We have an underground spring feed our house but have been told there is a well, we just haven't found it yet. People in the past usually built their dwellings close to where there was a water source. Good luck in finding it.
Welcome to the Highlands. Wouldn't move anywhere else in the world. Looks like an awesome plot! I have a few suggestions, firstly it does look like those trees are past due to be taken out, I would check the owner as its one of 3 -private owned, community owned or Forestry commission. Knowing how owns it might help understand when and if they will be cut. Several years ago I had one of those trees land on my house, it made a real mess. If they do cut them down, I would be very cautious about leaving a thin boundary of them, they are grown packed in and it forces the tree to focus on hight and not solid root systems. They will blow over. I would probably plant some natural hard and soft wood trees within your own boundary now in preparation of the big pines going down (it will look nasty for a couple of years, but with most in the area now being re planted with more variety it will be on in the long run). How close to Inverness are you? If you need some more stones and have a trailer to move some I have on the croft you can have for free, but I'm not lifting any of the bolders 😂
Just seen the video. And subbed. Good luck with the venture. Welcome to Scotland 🏴 🥃 Can't wait to see the finished land when u make it a home. Look after the lady on the land and the dogs from ticks.
First came to you guys for a few "Van building tips." I am now invested in what you can do with this. Bloody awesome guys. Amazing potential. Genuinely stoked for you in this vid. My family of Huskies would be going nuts on "your land" Congratulations!! 🤯
Thanks for following along, we are very excited to start this new chapter and I can’t wait for fencing the land properly so the dogs can enjoy it as well.
First time watching, welcome to Scotland and wishing you both all the best in your Scottish adventure, of grid Scotland now known as beyond the workbench would be a good channel to watch, I look forward to seeing more from your channel.
This looks like a lot of work. Very exciting but I imagine it will also be very daunting as well. Good luck. Can’t wait to follow your journey and look forward to seeing your completed home.
So many positives on first sight. Lots of weather protection from those Pine trees but they won't be there forever. Midges in the summer will be tough going in the woods. The first thing I thought was a Chainsaw big enough for an Alaskan mill, firewood. The trees will make it tough for your off-grid Solar plans but change the house design to incorporate the panels on the roof at a higher elevation to maximise solar gain. You guys will be good. Nobody died of hard work. Well done.
Congratulations 🎉 We built a timber frame house on our property in NI 2 years ago. Our builder works with a local university looking at thermal efficiency. He saved us a fortune on our SIP walls. He is a certificated Passive Home builder, but unlike most builders we met he was not out to rip us off. The insulation was blown into the SIP frames and bonded with graphite. He now builds pods. He might be worth a look as you are building your own home for as much or as little as you need. I’d love a plot like yours with a little off grid tiny house
You popped up on my feed. I enjoy watching young uns living their lives simply and following their dreams. Good will and happy days to you on your life adventures
New subscriber here. Great video and well done for following your dreams! The advice that you didn’t want and don’t need is to let the land be for a year. See what comes in all weathers and all seasons. Where do the issues run in torrential rain? Where do the snow drifts gather? Where does the wind blow hard when it blows? How does the wildlife like to use the land? Let it speak to you first and introduce itself properly, in all its moods. Best of luck!!
Thank you so much for the comment, sadly we can only stay on the land for 28 days of the year in Scotland until the land is registered as residential otherwise I’d already be on the land getting to know it.

the fact that people get so emotional and heart-pounding when finding a derelict piece of land to buy only shows how broken society is & how a "home" no matter what, is an innate need.
Just come across your channel. Love it. Look forward to watching your journey and how your build works out 👌🏻
Brilliant, I will be watching closely as this is exactly what I have been looking to do. Enjoy
Thank you! Enjoy following along 👍🏼
Good luck with your project in the new year guys 💪
Congratulations to you both and obviously they doggies, I will be watching this next series very closely as I'm a man that dose everything himself.
I'm sure it will be hard work and lots of emotions, but it's going to be so worth it.🎉
We did it for the dogs really! 😂 if you see me do anything wrong let me know, I’ve got a lot to learn. Cheers
When the joy in your heart somehow spills from your eyes is a wonderful feeling. Isabella may not only be your new best friend, but also your guardian angel. Wishing you the very best of luck; I shall be here to watch :)
Thanks you for the lovely comment 😁
Okay, the algorithm brought me here and I'm happy to be a new subscriber, if that helps. I was young once and know the excitement you both feel. Live your dream! I'll be watching from the sidelines as long as you take me with you. At 64 I'm headed on a first time dream of seeing the world. Moving from USA to Portugal so I can discover all of Europe. I hope your dream becomes everything you imagined!
Nice comments, Europe has much to offer and takes a lifetime to see a fraction of it. What visa did you obtain so that you can stay for a long time?
I will be getting a D7 (known as retiree visa). Still have to get things aligned here to make it happen, Sell a1967 Mustang, house, three other vehicles. Downsizing to start anew.
Very good vibes, good to see your world. I love how you appreciate big boulders. How to move big stones?
Thank you ☺️
I always wanted a big boulder on our land and we got a few! Hopefully a big digger will help me move them when we get around to it 👍🏼
Good luck with your future adventures on your new land!! And welcome to Scotland 🏴!!
Thank you!
Was just about to say, the first thing I’d do is chop down a lot of those trees for firewood and plant native trees like rowan etc. but there have been comments saying that which is absolutely amazing to see 😄
Well done team, great investment in a great part of the world! Enjoy the experience of building and living in such a beautiful spot.
Thank you so much!
Congratulations on your new adventure 😊
LOVED watching this, amazing, this is the dream 💫
Got to make those dreams a reality! Thanks for following along.
Congratulations on the stunning property and welcome to Scotland! Looking forward to seeing what happens next in your adventure!
It's looking good, stick with it and ignore these halfwit negative comments. Good luck to you.
Congrats guys! Very excited to see the build develop in the future :)
Thank you, can’t wait to get building now!
Welcome to Scotland 🏴 🥃
Can't wait to see the finished land when u make it a home.
Look after the lady on the land and the dogs from ticks.
Welcome to Scotland, I'm looking forward to your endeavours.
Thank you! Look forward to sharing it with you all.
I’m so proud of you guys! You have your dream land and OMG it’s epic!!! The bird song was everything ❤
Thanks Meg, we owe it all to you ❤️
Hi congratulations to you both. And good luck with your land.
Thank you so much!
you got the nicest bit of land in the end in my opinion
First came to you guys for a few "Van building tips." I am now invested in what you can do with this. Bloody awesome guys. Amazing potential. Genuinely stoked for you in this vid. My family of Huskies would be going nuts on "your land" Congratulations!! 🤯
Thanks for following along, we are very excited to start this new chapter and I can’t wait for fencing the land properly so the dogs can enjoy it as well.
Good luck. You are starting a journey many of us would love to do. ❤❤
Missed you guys. Was wondering this week what plans must be afoot and here comes my answer. Congratulations. Now off to watch the episode 😂😂😇😇🥰🥰
Thank you so much!!! We're very excited.
Thank you for taking us along!! Loved your video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
First time watching, welcome to Scotland and wishing you both all the best in your Scottish adventure, of grid Scotland now known as beyond the workbench would be a good channel to watch, I look forward to seeing more from your channel.
Thank you! I’ll definitely check the channel out 👍🏼
Awwwwwe, im so chuffed for you guys! Live the dream baby!
Thank you ☺️
Wish you all the best for the future … an looking forward to the new life you are building
Thank you!
This looks like a lot of work. Very exciting but I imagine it will also be very daunting as well. Good luck. Can’t wait to follow your journey and look forward to seeing your completed home.
Fingers crossed!
Well done.
Congratulations 🎉
We built a timber frame house on our property in NI 2 years ago.
Thanks, that’s good to know. Send over any details and links and we will check it out. Looking for as much help and advice as possible!
I watched a self build years ago and it was insulated using straw bails
You popped up on my feed. I enjoy watching young uns living their lives simply and following their dreams. Good will and happy days to you on your life adventures
Congratulations 🎉
Congratulations!
I just found your channel.
It will be so exciting to follow you and see what you are up to on the plot.
Thank you!
Congratulations and welcome to beautiful Scotland.
Thank you! 😃
good luck from a warm heart
Thank you 😁
Good luck guys, I’m subbing and will be watching! Happy new year!!
Thank you, enjoy the videos 😁
