We moved to Scotland 23 years ago. Bought a house with land (not quite the same, I know) but we have never looked back. Scotland is the most beautiful place on this planet. Good luck to the both of you!
Your lawn chairs are set up exactly where a lady fostered 60 children. Think of the laughter, and the feeling of safety those children rang throughout that small house. You are now in charge of bringing new joy to that plot of land. REALLY looking forward to this channel
Just stumbled across this video this morning. Having cleared land I have two bits to suggest. First is teach your dogs “safety first” which is basically “go to your spot.” The dogs have a safe space to go every time risky equipment comes out. Second is start a compost pile. You will have soooo much vegetation to clear, may as well get something going asap and a dedicated space to dump it. And for the interim, it gives you somewhere to put the dog poop too. (Short term, not long term. Dog poop is not the best compost!) Good luck!
We (my wife n dog) and I,are moving to Scotland in March of 2025 from Ontario Canada! I was born in Falkirk and after a vacation there last year we decided at this time in our lives,we want more of Scotlands rain and less of Canadas snow lol.
Great you have finally arrived. Looking forward to seeing all your videos. Great move and remember ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ good luck and enjoy the beautiful countryside which is now your home 🙏
Woop woop. Cannot wait to watch your journey with the new land. I'm a joiner/ multi skilled builder in Scotland and if yous ever need any help at all with your new building. Don't hesitate to get in touch. Would gladly come up and help out
Binge watching this and loving the dogs and your interactions with them. Its beautiful to see the emotions and just need to remember these nice parts during the horrible moments on a build.
A couple of days with a digger and a few ton of stone will transform the area for you to get started, best of luck, did the same 5 years ago, best move i ever made!
love your plan . great place to stay.we are in central scotland. we have alot tree cutting gear.heavy grass cutting machines. you two need a hand we could come lend a hand a couple of weekends. we have a campertruck on back hilux .
Great to see your latest update! So pleased for you both, it's going to be a great adventure/journey! We moved up 20 years ago and have never looked back Scotland is a beautiful country with some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet 🏴👍
So sweet the end of Rachael's monologue 😍 You guys are living the life all of us want. Well done and I look forward to the development of this project.
As a former landscaper, I do realise the absolute stench when you accidentally strim through dog muck. Makes you heave 😆 Welcome to Scotland and may you have many happy moons on your land. 🏴🏡
14:37 we’ve got a lot to do, I can remember saying that to my wife when we moved to Scotland in 2004. We moved up from Cambridge and was the move worth it, you bet it was. My wife, our Beagle and I spend our free time travelling all over Scotland in our Camper van. She has a bit of a hard time using the Porto Potty, and we try to avoid it if we can. But hey needs must lol. 20 years and still more to explore. Good luck with your endeavours, it will be worth it.
So much still to learn from others. We are just starting our journey later on in life and this is great inspiration. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪 Grand job! Best of luck
Loving the update, cant wait for the next one. another safety tip, wear some safety glasses when going through foliage, will save you a poke in the eye from a twig or leaf etc. What a beautiful place and an exciting project for you both. Really excited to see how things progress, have fun both!
Nice. I have always wanted Off grid up in the Highlands. Hopefully you guys will give me the pros and cons so I can make up my mind soon. Here to follow you all the way. Good luck.
Good luck folks! Looks like a wee bit of heaven... 40 years from now, wellies, flock of sheep, a pipe and pint by the fire, and Scottish country dance club each week in the parish hall...lol
Keep up the good work, I'm loving your journey and always looking forward to an update on your plot of land. I'm from Scotland and I'm also a joiner so your doing something that I myself would love to do. Keep living the dream.
Awesome to be a part of your journey :) I am currently looking for a plot of land here in Christchurch, New Zealand to go semi off grid. So excited to make this dream a reality. All the very best moving forward guys
Guys am I glad to see you! I literally only checked the other day on here to see how you were getting in Scotland...and then I spy an update! Can't wait to follow your adventures up there!!
Hey guys, just found your channel and working my way through your recent vids up to your purchase of your land. I'm a Scottish/Italian chef, but no longer working through health issues. I am now living a dream of mine vicariously through your journey. When I could still afford my car (Honda Jazz), I had it set up as a stealth camper and have camped all over the highlands for many years at every opportunity I got from work. Looking forward to your progress, all the best! ps you could get a brush cutter blade for your strimmer which will save on line but also clear more efficiently. Also when clearing any wood remember its a bountiful source as fuel, kindling, insulation & building material.
Seems a small enclosed piece of land to be sekf sufficient on, but i wish you all the luck in the world. Scotland is glorious. Excepr for the rain and mud 😁
Wow, from NZ, awesome countryside and can see why you love it. Enjoy hearing from you both as well, keep it up and good luck. Hope you have no welcome visits from your “friend”.
Home is where the heart is .... There's no truer saying as you both have shown the deep love for what you have , tho some hard road and work ahead I truly hope there's no hurdles with planning and other decisions made ? Such an opportunity to make your own mark . Will def be watching this come to fruition.
Well done guy’s,looking forward to more videos, check the dogs for ticks each day,and yourselves, probably lot’s of deer roaming about, tick carriers.👍👍Rob
Welcome home, guys. Rachel did the right, correct and PC thing by leaping around in the truck when she spotted the 'Welcome to Scotland' road sign. :) According to ancient Scottish countryside laws, 4wd trucks, K02 tyres, roof tents, drones, strimming bracken and dog poo are all acceptable. However, strimming ferns is prohibited, and nose rings are frowned upon. ;) You have been warned. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the good work. 🧔👍✌ PS. Have you met the local midgies, yet?
Thank you for sharing the ancient Scottish countryside laws and they have been noted! 😂 oh we have met the midges before trust me, we’ve spent a lot of time in Scotland.

Watching your vlog today and noticed we were parked in the back ground of your park up at loch lommond, we spent the night too, we saw your roof tent and said how brave you were cos it was chilly! We didnt realise it was you till we noticed our blue bus parked in the background of your video lol!
@@livinginkevlar yes it did get very cold around the time it snowed we had -5 one night at Fort Augustus the diesel heater was working overtime that night!
Hi folks, If I had my life to live over, I'd love to do as you are doing. You seem like such a charming couple, I hope you live a long time, so you can enjoy the life you plan together. To that end, I strongly recommend you not cook your food in the tins it comes in, especially over an open flame. Those tins have a plastic anti-rust coating inside, which, if heated may leach into the food, and cause health complications down the line. Live long and prosper!
Looking forward to seeing your progress, would be interesting if you got a metal detector or a local detectorist to see what artifacts are on your land.
