I’m holding onto my seat, I’m loving every minute. This would have been my dream when I was young and able bodied. Sadly, I married the wrong man, crippled myself having to do everything on the old house we bought, as well as hold down a job. He was either at the pub or in front of the TV. The deal was we’d work together, but that didn’t work out very well. Anyway, I’m going to live my dream through you two if you don’t mind. You’ve found yourself a grand spot. Sundays are now my favourite day. xxxx
I’m sorry to hear that! I won’t stop until we have a roof over our heads and living comfortably and I know Rachel will be there right beside me every step of the way. I’m glad that we can share this with you and it gives you something to look forward to at the end of the week ☺️ take care Lyndsey x
Sorry if this comes through twice , it is a cast iron rainwater pipe approx 65mm diam with ears , which means it was used on external walls . the bit in the ground is a ' hopper ' which the pipe runs into via the grating from a vertical plain . looks like you might of found the corner of an external wall where hoppers were usually located
Great stuff. My 2 cents: 1. Buy a tractor with a grader blade. Form a driveway. 2. Form rough access to site 3. Buy an old caravan (old, rough & ready) 4. Form a flat site with stone for caravan. This will allow you to live on site with soooooo much more comfort and make trips easier, more enjoyable during inclement weather. Meaning you’ll be up there more often.
My friend I have a beautiful motorhome that will be our home on the land, check out my other videos to see the motorhome/ex police riot van. We will be getting a digger though 👍🏼
We hadto clear about 2 acres of land left for many years. Bramble roots, thorn roots, lots of other very large tree roots. We had an old 1 1/2 ton mini digger. Dug all roots up by just pulling the bucket through the ground, loosening stuff up and just hand picking it all out. Then bon fire..
I was wondering when you get the chance you could tell us where your boundary lines are surrounding your land and what you are allowed to work with. Thanks for taking us on your journey. Cheers.
Keep the best bits of the old metal roof: use them as a base for putting on supplies of things that won't like the wet; and also useful for mixing cement/concrete in small batches. The old septic tank will be near the gate so that it could be emptied more easily. If you replace there are good modern small-size domestic waste plants that are more environmentally friendly, and worth spending the money on.
main chainsaw points are keep the saw on your right side so you are looking at it from the side with a good stance so you can step backwards away from the saw - and if the you swing /pivot the blade/saw in an arc then it is clear of you and as soon as you start the saw click the chain brake on with the back of your fist and only take off when cutting - I'm sure you will watch you tube vids - stihl do some ok ones but defo worth doing a basic user course - loads around - take care 🙂 exciting to see the excavation of the house and outhouse/garage develop - archaeology dig in progress
@bv3bv334 I've never ever had it but never use the tip. It's probably a good idea to learn about that too. It's like the angle grinder, a friend of mine use to watch us using it and was scared to death. Using it with no guard under cars but you couldn't get into it without. I've always had a rule of don't let go, but always do dangerous things safely. He was under a car it flew back into his face straight into a eye.
It looks like a lovely spot, but at some point in the future you're going to have to consider the very closely surrounding trees. There's not a lot of room to cut them down, and at some point they're going to fall down, perhaps onto your home. It might be best to get them removed all the way around the perimeter, far enough away from where your home will be so they won't be a risk when they fall
Make sure you pile up every piece of organic matter & smidgen of topsoil for when you decide to start growing things. Believe me, the result will be some superb growing material. Oh & scrap steel, even rusty is worth at least 10p/kg...
really good.. every time the land reveals something new about itself it will help you so much going forward.. and you have time now before you come back to plan and be inspired.. enjoy.. much love xxc
Great to see progress but I can’t help thinking a mini digger would have accomplished 100 times more 🤷♂️ …totally invested now , can’t wait for the next one 👍
I recommend setting up a camera system to watch the land while you’re gone. Might catch some wildlife but can double for Timelapse’s and filming stuff you miss. Drop me a message I can help spec or setup a system. A little keter storage shed too for bigger tools to save you space
@ trail cam is decent for wildlife but long term something PoE with a basic solar and battery setup would let you Timelapse and give you RUclips quality (8-12MP). You could then integrate it into your permanent setup down the line for security. If you get any 4G coverage at all then a cheap dongle with a data sim so you can remotely view the cameras, a ubiquiti console like the cloudkey gen2 for your NVR since it has a built in battery or one that has built in PoE, then if you care about getting detection notifications you can use their G5 cameras that aren’t that expensive, or if you want super quality for cheaper but without notifications of motion, certain reolink cams. All of that will often use less than 50W of power so could be ran off a basic solar and battery setup. I’m an electrical engineer and this project you have is right up my street if you need an extra hand.
@@livinginkevlardo you get any 4g signal there? If so reolink to 4g sim based battery powered night vision cctv cameras. Well worth looking into. And focus on keeping your location quiet so. People can't work out where you guys are and steal your stuff etc.
As always I just stop whatever I'm doing and sit and watch in awe 👍. Good to hear about the wheelbarrow, that will keep some folk in the comment chill till they hear about the chainsaw 😂
Where the old building is; you’re going to utilise for the new build, right? Would be ace if you could use the pre-existing wall as a ‘feature’ wall and you already have a floor and foundations. Exciting times
Your doing very well there young man...I did the cross cut course a while ago...you learn to sharpen it properly...use the brake, and keep it away from your legs...stay safe bud...all the hard yuka your doing now WILL reward you manyfold, lucky sod...wish i were you good luck...great vids.
Thanks and I think I will look into a course. I had a lot of fun using it and got my confidence up a bit, being a carpenter I’m use to big power tools but chainsaws can be unforgiving! And yes I’m definitely a lucky sod 😂
Im glad I found your channel - absolutely loving it- ps, dont throw those boulders and rubble away, they can be use to build random rubble walls and/or dry stone dykes. There plenty of clips on you tube on how to do it.
It is a magical place for sure. I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos but be patient with me, I do have a full time job and the videos can take a while to edit so for now it’s one a week 👍🏼
Back breaking work 😮 does it feel a bit spooky there? It has an atmospheric feel to it the place, a lot stuff had happened. Fascinating who lived there and when.
@@livinginkevlar Hi guys, lots of hard work ahead. If you are interested I have a pair of Husqvarna Chain saw trousers you can have. I used them a few times but no damage. I have just washed them. Message me if you want them.
My back is aching in sympathy yes a mini digger but these young adults dont have an unlimited budget. Get a go fund me account going; I’ll chip in. Also where are your mates? Get them up to help.
I’m use to hard graft but we all have our limits for sure so a mini digger is definitely on the cards for when we start foundations etc. Thank you so much for the offer of contributing to a go fund me, my may look into this but need to research a bit. Aye - not the toilet but the drain for guttering.

Chainsaw
1 don't let go
2 make sure you have oil in it
3 don't cut stuff on the floor and blunt the chain even on the soil
Learn about kickback!

That would have been a great idea to set up a trail cam, it’s something we would love to do in the future as we love the wildlife here in Scotland.

A MINI DIGGER IS A MUST ON THIS SITE EVEN IF ONLY A FEW DAYS
Mini digger for a few days would be handy.
Absolutely, that’s a job for next year when the land isn’t frozen 👍🏼
I love all the documented clearing
This is just stage one and I want to document everything so we can enjoy watching it back when we are old 😁
Where the old building is; you’re going to utilise for the new build, right? Would be ace if you could use the pre-existing wall as a ‘feature’ wall and you already have a floor and foundations. Exciting times
Tip, for hauling lots of dead branches/brush/any waste really. Use a tonne bag, easier than a tarp, has handles and is more durable
Once we start getting materials on the land isn’t will definitely keep a tonne bag around to help haul 👍🏼
great that you were blessed with good weather

It would be nice to see down by the river :)...Also whats that on the rocks at 7:53 bottom left? Lizard or snail?

Hmmm not really but we do have a spooky photo to share in a future video so keep an eye out for that 😁

You must feel like an archaeologist looking for traces of previous occupants of the site.
