Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods on the East Coast of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. Thank you for being here with us for cabin life, van life and all the in between!

The weather won’t let up this year! We’ve definitely never seen the flooding this bad, something to think about if we ever start building something down near the waterways. Starting to wonder what kind of winter we have ahead of us 👀 See you next Sunday pack 🫶🏼

    Hey Christa and Jazmin,
The cottage and property are looking incredible. The work you've done the last 2 years has totally changed the space!!! And the siding is killer!!!!
Watching this video reminded me of being home in Nova Scotia. I grew up in Dartmouth and in my 20's began moving around Canada, but something I have always remembered is a sailors weather advice.
"Red sky by night, sailors delight, Red sky by morn, sailors be warned".
Meaning - a red sky in the morning always means a storm is at sea and coming towards land, and from what I remember from home, it was accurate about 98% of the time.
As far as hurricanes, "Never believe the storm has passed as the eye of the storm is the tail is looking for a victim to visit" .
Meaning - Don't be fooled into believing the storm has passed when you're in the eye of the storm, (the centre of the storm), as the worst part of the hurricane is the tail, which has yet to come. This is true 100% of the time when people think the storm has passed when they are actually in the eye of the storm. The eye being the centre of the storm where it's bright, sunny, blue skies, and clear suddenly. I'm assuming you know that already, but just incase.
This year has completely surprised me for the kinds of storms there have been back home as far as rain. In the years I grew up in Dartmouth and years I've been at home since I left Nova Scotia initially, I have never seen storms cause flooding like has been happening this year. And honestly it's got me worried as NS is a seaside province, and with climate change happening the way it is, it really makes me concerned to see whole areas like Sackville and Bedford under a few feet of water from storms that came through.
I live in Toronto and this year I actually saw funnel clouds reaching down. Thankfully none of the ones I saw touched down. I think back to the weather back home when I was a kid and the weather wasn't like this then. It's only been in the last 10 years that it's gone of the charts. Weather all over the world has changed drastically in the last few years. China has been getting major flooding from rain causing dams to break as well as from actual rainstorms. The same has happened in a number of other countries around the globe in areas that normally don't see much rainfall.
    Please be careful.
And if the water has risen that much around the cottage, I would suggest 2 ideas you might want to seriously think about.
    1. Getting an ample supply of premade sandbags that you can line the lake and river with.
    OR
    2. Think about building up the banks of the lake and river in a permanent way as a precaution from getting flooded. Because if the rain caused the water level to rise that much overnight from a few hours of rain in the area, then you are living at the edge of a flood plain.
    3. You might want to get a canoe and check the lake and rivers for beaver dams in the spring, and if you find any dams that aren't nesting homes, then take the dams apart so you don't get flooded out in storms, especially hurricanes. Think of the Tragically Hip "New Orleans is sinking, man, and I don't wanna swim". Sadly, I think that might be a possibility at home in NS on the coastline and near large bodies of water

Nice job ladies. 👏😃 I'm loving that charred wood look. I'm sure you're last touch will be to go around the eves with some big gap foam filler, or something similar, to fill in those cracks for the unwanted hornet nests & to help seal out future moisture etc. from getting in there before you finish painting off your roof line trim. From the beginning to now, you have truly turned this cabin into a beautifully viable, sustainable, warm & cozy homestead. ✌️🙂

Glad y’all are all good after the storm! I grew up on the Texas coast and have been hit hard by hurricanes several times - I can’t imagine the peace of mind of being off grid and not having to worry about the power grid failing, or water system getting contaminated! Cabin is looking amazing 🎉

We had recordbreaking heat this summer in Whitehorse. Then we had rain. Sooo much rain!!! Now it's -15 and counting. We've only had a couple inches of snow so far.
I am praying for a mild winter!!
I cannot believe that crazy flooding! I'm glad your cabin is safe from that.
