Your voice can help end homelessness. If we do not fix the affordable housing crisis, homelessness will continue to get worse. Click here [invisiblepeople.tv/getinvolved] to tweet, email, call, or Facebook your federal and state legislators to tell them ending homelessness and creating more affordable housing is a priority to you.

I found something that helped me all this years: If I continue to live and take care of myself the best I can, one day I could be in the position of helping someone. Helping someone that cannot help themselves due to circumstances for example. I've been in that position many times and help around 10 individuals. I do it because I know what is it like to feel like you have no choice, no help, nobody. I do it because if I can, I wanna make a difference.
Because it's not my fault that I wanted to end with my life. It was my circumstances and the people around me. I want to change the world so nobody has to go through injustices.

I live in SF and I am seeing the homelessness crisis happening more and more. And I must admit I am guilty of prejudging the homeless many times. I dismiss their problems as voluntary drug abuse and other similar decisions. But I have to keep reminding myself that that's not always the case. Many of the homeless just need to be given an opportunity and they can capitalize on it.
I haven't seen a comprehensive, effective solution to this issue yet, and I don't have one either.

    • @rileycoyote8275

@Crush the liesOh yes, so wise. This guy has a child that he's mentioned several times and yet he's doing absolutely nothing to support that child nor is he rising above his addiction, to make a better life for his child. He's not wise, he's damaged goods who doesn't care to help himself, not even for his child. Pretty pathetic, if you ask me. People gain wisdom if they allows themselves to find a way to help themselves out of their struggles/situation. If they continue to struggle year after year, they're not wise at all, quite the opposite. This guy is so used to being a victim and having people like you enabling him, he doesn't want to better himself. He's content to blame everyone else and feel sorry for himself and chooses to keep feeding his addiction, to hell with being a man and stepping up for his son. There are countless agencies who have resources to help those who need a hand up, unfortunately too many want continual hand-outs and they don't want to change. They're under the impression that somehow the rest of society owes them and is obligated to help them out of their struggle. Many agencies have rules that the people seeking help, don't want to adhere to. They want it all their way and don't think that they need to compromise or cooperate.
With the exception of children, the developmentally delayed and the truly mentally ill, every person is equipped to figure out how to help themselves. Unfortunately a lot these "wise strugglers" don't want to help themselves. They want to be coddled and pandered to and stay the perpetual Victims of Life, believing that others owe them. Nobody owes anyone a damned thing. We owe it to ourselves to figure out what we need to do in order to have a better life for ourselves and especially those who we bring into the world. This guy won't even step outside of himself for a minute in order to be a man for his child. He's not wise. He's worthless.

      I agree.
      These people are being exploited.
Edit: I've been homeless and destitute like this guy...you get used to "regular" people ignoring you.
It's very hurtful, but it makes sense...people all have their own lives, and they have to shield themselves from certain things.
You get so starved for basic human affection that you'll happily tell your life story to a perfect stranger if they ask, because it's been so long since anyone cared enough to ask.
When someone acts like they really care about your story, it gives you a glimmer of hope, like maybe someone cares...and they do, for a minute.
Then they take your story with them. It belongs to them now.
They can tell their friends the story of the interesting homeless guy they once talked with.
It's very painful to see how little people care sometimes.
The funny thing is, I used to feel worse for them than I did for myself.
How unfeeling a regular person must force themselves to be when they ignore the friendly greeting of a smelly half crippled man on the sidewalk...its so much more practical to pretend to not see the homeless person...that must hurt the regular person in some small way; the act of ignoring people who are just fucked.
The world, and humanity looks very bleak when you are out in the cold.
Better to be a dog sometimes...people brag to each other about rescuing homeless dogs. Haha
These type of RUclips channels exploit the homeless and addicted...no doubt about it.
Thank you for recognizing that fact.

Wow I can't believe this poor soul is only 29 years old.. you can practically see every time our society has failed him etched into his face. This was a heartbreaking interview, stay awesome Invisible People and thanks for everything you do. You can tell how much these interviews mean not only to the people in the comment section, but also to the people you are invterviewing. I wish I had the gumption to do the same, I've sat and chatted with the homeless around me and have heard some tragic stories.
One guy came into my work because I would give him free tacos, saw him a couple times a week until the owner told me he couldn't come in any more. That he was bad for business. I worked at a alternative, anti-establishment kind of restaurant, and that really made me upset. Instead of talking to me about it first, the owner decided to berate this man based 100% on his appearance, knowing nothing about him but that he "looked" homeless. I couldn't bear to think of him out in the cold with low blood sugar and nothing to eat. So I told him hey, walk past the restaurant, and if you see me stand out there and wave. So he would, and I would bring him two chicken tacos with soft ingredients because he had dental pain and a coke with no ice which he said he needed to get his blood sugar up. He would put the coke glass up to his mouth with pale, trembling hands. He always looked frightened, but as I sat with him I could see him relax, I showed him love and acceptance and we grew closer. We spent hours over the course of months talking, mostly about him.
While getting to know each other, I learned he had schizophrenia, diabetes, and needed glasses that he couldn't afford. He walked around the city, stalked in his mind by a demon woman who repeatedly raped him. Every time I saw him I gave him a hug and reassured him as much as I could that there is love in this world, but I didn't know what to say about his schizophrenia, it was just totally heartbreaking to see. He lived in absolute terror of his hallucinations, and yet was very aware of them and how other people thought he was "crazy". Even after seeing the pure terror on his face, I still cannot imagine sleeping under a bridge at night and waking up to a demon staring you in the face.
It is amazing what a small gesture can do. I gave him a 5 dollar bill one day and he cried. For the price of a beer, I gave him the best day of his entire week.
Taylor passed away back in July. I will never forget him, and he forever made me more empathetic. Who knows if I'd been open enough to engage so fully with this man without this series, so thank you again. Rest in peace Taylor, I'm sorry the world never even gave you a chance. I'm sorry you got yelled at when you were just trying to get a bite to eat. I'm sorry for the way you felt like all of society was hated at you, which wasn't entirely in your head. You didn't deserve any of the disdain that you received. You were beautiful.
If you feel that society doesn't value you, know that I and many others _do_ . You have worth to humanity and to our planet, to this whole collective mess we call civilization. It wouldn't be the same without you.

You know what is interesting? Even though you really didn't understand this man and what he needed, you took the time out to care for him in whatever way you could. I think that meant a lot to this man. It probably meant a lot to you too. Love is like a flame that when it reaches out to warm someone else, it warms the person who sent it as well. He came to see you every day in spite of being yelled at by the owner of the shop. There are other places to get food, but not every place has love and empathy.
It is ironic how some of these alternative type people are so judgmental. On the one hand he cares about his business, but on the other, he has a lack of respect for people. He missed an opportunity to grow, but you gained the true insight of what it means to be alternative. Sometimes it is good to eat food given to you by someone who respects you rather than just pities you.

Thats a sad story the man lived. He died being miserable knowing the system failed him and living with trauma and being stalked by a demon woman.
I pray for his soul that he is in a better place and his no longer living in torment.
That seemed like a good man who didn't mean no harm but wanted to feel loved when he didn't feel loved.
I'm glad you helped him the brst you could although he was berated for trying to learn how to survive in this cruel evil cold words.
